Here is the chart of October 6, 2007:

20 Robyn & Kleerup - With Every Heartbeat NEW

19 Will.I.Am - I Got It From My Mama NEW

18 Hard-Fi - Suburban Knights 2 Down

17 Nicole Scherzinger - Whatever U Like NEW

16 Enrique Iglesias - Tired Of Being Sorry 2 Up

15 Justin Timberlake - LoveStoned 11 Down

14 Nelly Furtado - Do It 6 Up

13 Gym Class Heroes - Clothes Off!! 2 Down

12 James Blunt - 1973 5 Up

11 Jennifer Lopez - Do It Well NEW

10 Plain White T's - Hey There Delilah 5 Up

9 Fergie - Big Girls Don't Cry Stay =>

8 Maroon 5 - Wake Up Call 1 Down

7 Sean Kingston - Beautiful Girls 1 Down

6 Foo Fighters - The Pretender 4 Up

5 Linkin Park - Bleed It Out Stay =>

4 50 Cent & Justin Timberlake - Ayo Technology 4 Up

3 Kanye West - Stronger 1 Down

2 Timbaland & Keri Hilson - The Way I Are 1 Down

1 Rihanna - Shut Up And Drive 2 Up

The most notable thing this week is that "Shut Up And Drive" by Rihanna becomes number 1. This becomes her FIFTH consecutive number 1 after "Pon De Replay", "S.O.S.", "Unfaithful" and "Umbrella". As "If It's Lovin' That You Want" and "We Ride" didn't enter European Top 20 at all, Rihanna has now achieved the best debut in the chart's history - the first five songs of hers which have entered the chart have gone all the way to the top!

The previous record was by Gwen Stefani... although she did first appear in the chart as a collaborator on Eve's "Let Me Blow Ya Mind". However, as a main artist, her first four singles - "What You Waiting For?", "Rich Girl", "Hollaback Girl" and "Cool" - all became number ones. That's also an impressive achievement because they were all taken from the same album while Rihanna's five chart-toppers come from 3 different albums...

The song that "Shut Up And Drive" replaces at the top is "The Way I Are" by Timbaland and Keri Hilson, which, however, has already scored the most weeks at number 1 this year - 7 weeks. The previous record holder for 2007 was... Rihanna's "Umbrella" (6 weeks).

There are four new entries this week. The lowest one - at number 20 - is a nice surprise. While "With Every Heartbeat" by Robyn and Kleerup is having success in various European countries, I didn't really expect it to enter this chart. But it does - and thus becomes the first hit for both artists in European Top 20.

A place above, at number 19, is the second new entry - "I Got It From My Mama" by Will.I.Am. With Fergie still in the chart with "Big Girls Don't Cry", now only Apl.De.Ap and Taboo need to appear in the chart and all of Black Eyed Peas' members will have simultaneous hits in it!

At number 17 is the most questionable new entry - "Whatever U Like" by Nicole Schrezinger. As far as I know, it hasn't been released anywhere in Europe... Anyway, strangely enough, this is her first hit in European Top 20 as a solo artist - her collaboration with P. Diddy "Come To Me" didn't make the chart.

The highest new entry - at number 11 - is "Do It Well" by Jennifer Lopez. She was last seen in the chart last year on LL Cool J's "Control Myself". Her previous chart hit as a main artist was "Get Right" in 2005, which peaked at number 5.

Otherwise, there are a few bigger movements in the chart, particularly the 11-place fall of "LoveStoned" by Justin Timberlake - from number 4 to number 15. Justin is definitely no stranger to this kind of movement as both "Cry Me A River" in 2003 and "My Love" earlier this year fell 11 places as well, going 6-17 and 5-16, respectively...

Hi Skyzzo! I know that there are newer charts available but on MTV Europe they show European Top 20 with more than a week's delay... And I don't want to know the chart before I watch it!

flatdeejay, when did you start watching MTV European Top 20? I'm desperately looking for someone who has watched it before December 1991 because there are no archives before that date...

Anyway, here is the chart of October 13, 2007:

20 Axwell - I Found U NEW

19 Hard-Fi - Suburban Knights 1 Down

18 Sugababes - About You Now NEW

17 Robyn & Kleerup - With Every Heartbeat 3 Up

16 Will.I.Am - I Got It From My Mama 3 Up

15 Fergie - Big Girls Don't Cry 6 Down

14 Nicole Scherzinger - Whatever U Like 3 Up

13 Enrique Iglesias - Tired Of Being Sorry 3 Up

12 Nelly Furtado - Do It 2 Up

11 Maroon 5 - Wake Up Call 3 Down

10 Jennifer Lopez - Do It Well 1 Up

9 James Blunt - 1973 3 Up

8 Sean Kingston - Beautiful Girls 1 Down

7 Kanye West - Stronger 4 Down

6 Plain White T's - Hey There Delilah 4 Up

5 Timbaland & Keri Hilson - The Way I Are 3 Down

4 Linkin Park - Bleed It Out 1 Up

3 Foo Fighters - The Pretender 3 Up

2 50 Cent & Justin Timberlake - Ayo Technology 2 Up

1 Rihanna - Shut Up And Drive Stay =>

There are two new entries this week. At number 20 we find... Axwell with "I Found U". With Robyn and Kleerup debuting last week, it looks like the Swedes are beginning to conquer the chart (eller hur?)!

The other new entry, at number 18, is "About You Now" by Sugababes. They have been absent from the chart for quite a long time... or actually not. In fact, their last hit was still in European Top 20 at the beginning of this year. I'm talking about "Easy", which actually became their smallest hit in the chart, peaking at number 12.

"Beautiful Girls" by Sean Kingston falls for a second consecutive week after only reaching number 6. I wonder whether that will remain its peak position or we can expect a sudden reclimb?

Linkin Park seem to really like the number 4 position. "Bleed It Out" climbs to this position and if it doesn't go any further, it will become their fourth single to peak there after "In The End", "Somewhere I Belong" and "Numb/Encore" with Jay-Z.

Otherwise, there is no change at the top, where "Shut Up And Drive" remains for a second week. But "Ayo Technology" by 50 Cent and Justin Timberlake seems to be a strong contender for the number 1 spot - as indicated also by the MTV chart presenter, Charlotte.

bobiloko: sometime in 1991 but since 1992 on weekly basis. Anyway I have no archives, I'm collecting only IFPI granted charts ;)
I used to watch on MTV the European top 20 too in the early ninetees and I have an archive but where, I don't know exactly but for sure at that time I didn't have a computer so it must be in a book where I used to wrote it down.

Thank you for your replies! I have sent emails to MTV Europe many times to ask for earlier archives but there hasn't been any result until now... And if someone has this archive, it has to be exactly MTV Europe! I really hope they haven't lost it... Otherwise I don't mind waiting for years until they decide to share it...

I can check my archive if it's ok with you but it takes time.

Bence, I'll be very happy if you can check your archive... I just hope that won't cause you too much trouble... Time isn't a problem - I can wait for however long it takes...

Mykka, I absolutely agree that "Soulmate" should have entered the chart. "I Wanna Have Your Babies" reached number 10 without really having success around Europe...

Here is the chart of October 20, 2007:

20 Robyn & Kleerup - With Every Heartbeat 3 Down

19 Will.I.Am - I Got It From My Mama 3 Down

18 Sugababes - About You Now Stay =>

17 Fergie - Big Girls Don't Cry 2 Down

16 Kanye West - Good Life NEW

15 Nicole Scherzinger - Whatever U Like 1 Down

14 Rihanna - Don't Stop The Music NEW

13 Enrique Iglesias - Tired Of Being Sorry Stay =>

12 Maroon 5 - Wake Up Call 1 Down

11 Nelly Furtado - Do It 1 Up

10 Jennifer Lopez - Do It Well Stay =>

9 James Blunt - 1973 Stay =>

8 Sean Kingston - Beautiful Girls Stay =>

7 Timbaland & Keri Hilson - The Way I Are 2 Down

6 Plain White T's - Hey There Delilah Stay =>

5 Linkin Park - Bleed It Out 1 Down

4 Foo Fighters - The Pretender 1 Down

3 Kanye West - Stronger 4 Up

2 Rihanna - Shut Up And Drive 1 Down

1 50 Cent & Justin Timberlake - Ayo Technology 1 Up

"Remember when I said last week "Mark my words"?", asked the chart presenter Charlotte before announcing the new number 1. She was absolutely right - "Ayo Technology" climbs to the top. It becomes the third number 1 for 50 Cent after "In Da Club" and "Candy Shop" and the fifth for Justin Timberlake - after his solo singles "SexyBack" and "My Love" and his appearance on "Where Is The Love?" by Black Eyed Peas and "Signs" by Snoop Dogg.

The song it replaces is "Shut Up And Drive" by Rihanna... while at the same time her new single "Don't Stop The Music" debuts at number 14. It's interesting that the same happened last time - "Umbrella" fell from the top exactly in the week when "Shut Up And Drive" entered the chart...

Speaking of "Umbrella", it left the chart two weeks ago. I'm really sad because had it spent 3 more weeks in European Top 20, Rihanna would have been the first artist ever to have THREE singles simultaneously in the chart!

It looks like the Swedish conquest of the chart is not going to happen, after all. "With Every Heartbeat" by Robyn and Kleerup falls to the bottom of the chart after only reaching number 17... And "I Found U" by Axwell, which entered at number 20 last week... has already gone out!

And now - to the story of the week (for me). The reason why I love MTV European Top 20 is that sometimes it's an amazing experience to watch it. Imagine watching the countdown, just like I do. "Good Life", the new single by Kanye West debuts at number 16. What about his previous single, "Stronger"? Last week it made a relatively big fall from number 3 to number 7. Where is it this week? It's not at number 7, nor at number 6, nor at number 5... Surely it can't have made a big reclimb in a week when his new single enters the chart! This must mean one thing - "Stronger" has left the chart altogether and has been replaced by "Good Life"! The consequence is that there must be a new entry VERY high in the chart - at number 4... Oh, actually at number 3! What could it be? There is only one possibility - "Gimme More" by Britney Spears. What a comeback! Here, we'll see it now at number 3...

WHAT? "Stronger" reclimbs four places to number 3?!

Thank you for sharing my experience! I hope you've enjoyed it!

Here is the chart of October 27, 2007:

20 Nightwish - Amaranth NEW

19 Robyn & Kleerup - With Every Heartbeat 1 Up

18 Will.I.Am - I Got It From My Mama 1 Up

17 Maroon 5 - Wake Up Call 5 Down

16 Nicole Scherzinger - Baby Love NEW

15 Enrique Iglesias - Tired Of Being Sorry 2 Down

14 Sugababes - About You Now 4 Up

13 Kanye West - Good Life 3 Up

12 Rihanna - Don't Stop The Music 2 Up

11 Jennifer Lopez - Do It Well 1 Down

10 Nelly Furtado - Do It 1 Up

9 James Blunt - 1973 Stay =>

8 Timbaland & Keri Hilson - The Way I Are 1 Down

7 Sean Kingston - Beautiful Girls 1 Up

6 Plain White T's - Hey There Delilah Stay =>

5 Rihanna - Shut Up And Drive 3 Down

4 Foo Fighters - The Pretender Stay =>

3 Linkin Park - Bleed It Out 2 Up

2 Kanye West - Stronger 1 Up

1 50 Cent & Justin Timberlake - Ayo Technology Stay =>

I can't tell you how excited I am about the new entry at number 20! "Amaranth" by Nightwish appeared in 12 different European countries' singles charts, going Top 10 in most of them and even topping several... It's one of the songs that most deserve to enter the European Top 20... Yet I was afraid it wouldn't chart. Because they don't play it on MTV Europe... and, however strange that may sound, because it's actually a European song!

Unbelievable, isn't it? But it's a fact - nowadays the chart is occupied by artists from the USA and, to a lesser extent, from the UK. Songs which are having success around Europe but come from a non-English speaking country usually don't come anywhere near this chart... This has been the case for at least several years.

However, 2007 seems to have changed things a little. Songs like "Summer Wine" by Ville Valo and Natalia Avelon or "Fairytale Gone Bad" by Sunrise Avenue did enter the MTV European Top 20, ever though they stayed in the lower reaches of the chart... The best example is probably "Monsoon" by Tokio Hotel, which actually peaked at number 2! That was maybe a little higher than it deserved... but still better than not making the chart at all!

Which path will "Amaranth" take? The path of "Summer Wine" or that of "Monsoon"? Can it even top the chart? The last European song from a non-English speaking country to become number 1 in European Top 20 was "Asereje" by Las Ketchup... back in 2002!

The other new entry - at number 16 - is also very interesting. "Baby Love" by Nicole Scherzinger replaces her previous "single" "Whatever U Like". Actually, thus a mistake is corrected as "Whatever U Like" wasn't released anywhere in Europe - it's "Baby Love" that is Nicole's current single. However, the situation is really amazing... The thing is, "Whatever U Like" entered the chart just 3 weeks ago and had a chart run of 17-14-15. "Baby Love" debuts just 3 weeks later - such a small gap between the debut of two consecutive singles by an artist is quite remarkable!

In fact, it has happened only twice before and both times were in 1993 - 14 years ago! First with OMD - "Dream Of Me" entered the chart exactly 3 weeks after "Stand Above Me". After that the same happened with Robin S., "Luv 4 Luv" also debuting 3 weeks after "Show Me Love". I'm waiting for the day when two singles (not collaborations) by an artist enter MTV European Top 20 simultaneously!

Nothing new at the top as "Ayo Technology" by 50 Cent and Justin Timberlake spends a second week there... but it's a little more interesting with the runner-up. In spite of his new single "Good Life" climbing in the chart, Kanye West reclimbs to number 2 with "Stronger", which matches its peak position from 4 weeks ago. In fact, its run between these two occasions has been a mirrored one:

2-3-7-3-2

And if it manages to climb to number 1 next week, that would really be impressive!

I think you'll find Nicole's situation and Rihanna's situation ridiculous 2 charts from now, I guess you'll have to wait and see. I was annoyed

I can see what you mean already from the following chart... "Don't Stop The Music" falls to number 15! Strange... but I hope it will go back up in the future.

Here is the chart of November 3, 2007:

20 Britney Spears - Gimme More NEW

19 Nightwish - Amaranth 1 Up

18 Backstreet Boys - Inconsolable NEW

17 Enrique Iglesias - Tired Of Being Sorry 2 Down

16 Gwen Stefani - Now That You Got It NEW

15 Rihanna - Don't Stop The Music 3 Down

14 Nicole Scherzinger - Baby Love 2 Up

13 Nelly Furtado - Do It 3 Down

12 Timbaland & Keri Hilson - The Way I Are 4 Down

11 Plain White T's - Hey There Delilah 5 Down

10 Alicia Keys - No One NEW

9 Jennifer Lopez - Do It Well 2 Up

8 Sean Kingston - Beautiful Girls 1 Down

7 Rihanna - Shut Up And Drive 2 Down

6 James Blunt - 1973 3 Up

5 Sugababes - About You Now 9 Up

4 Linkin Park - Bleed It Out 1 Down

3 Foo Fighters - The Pretender 1 Up

2 Kanye West - Stronger Stay =>

1 50 Cent & Justin Timberlake - Ayo Technology Stay =>

A very pleasing edition of European Top 20 with 4 new entries. The most surprising is the lowest one at number 20 - "Gimme More" by Britney Spears. The surprising is not the fact that it enters, of course, but that it makes it at the bottom of the chart - I expected a Top 5 debut! Britney hasn't appeared in the chart for 2 years - her last hit, "Someday I Will Understand", became also her smallest, only reaching number 12.

Another act who last appeared in the chart in 2005 were Backstreet Boys. Their comeback "Incomplete" did very disappointingly for them (and I think that was a mistake in the chart, not a lack of success for the song in the European charts), peaking at number 8. I have to say I was afraid that their new single with the somehow similar title "Inconsolable" wouldn't even make it to the chart - fortunately, it appears at number 18 but I doubt that it will do much better than "Incomplete".

The new entry at number 16 is quite questionable as I think it enters only because it's by Gwen Stefani. "Now That You Got It" is not doing well across Europe. Gwen's previous 3 singles from this album peaked at the following positions: "Wind It Up" - at number 4; "The Sweet Escape" - at number 1 (for 5 weeks); "4 In The Morning" - at number 6. Not quite as interesting as the chart history of the songs from her debut album - the first 4 singles ("What You Waiting For?", "Rich Girl", "Hollaback Girl" and "Cool") all reached the top... while the 5th one - "Luxurious" spent a lonely week at number 20!

Debuts straight in the Top 10 don't happen too often in European Top 20 (in fact, in 2003 that didn't happen even a single time!). This week the honour goes to "No One" by Alicia Keys, which enters at number 10. She has had 4 previous hits in the chart. Two of them were solo - "Fallin'" peaked at number 3 and "A Woman's Worth" - at number 14. The other two were collaborations - "Gangsta Lovin'" with Eve reached number 3 while "My Boo" with Usher - number 4. Can Alicia finally go higher than number 3 with "No One"?

There is a big climber this week - "About You Now" by Sugababes goes 9 places up from number 14 to number 5. It's interesting that they have a similar fate to Britney Spears - "Easy", their last hit in the chart, became their smallest and, just like "Someday I Will Understand", its peak position was number 12!

No change at the top - "Ayo Technology" by 50 Cent and Justin Timberlake spends its third week at the top. Neither is there a change at the runner-up position where we still find "Stronger" by Kanye West. What's interesting is that his new single "Good Life", which climbed to number 13 last week, is nowhere to be seen in this new chart! So the newer single leaves the chart... while the older one is still a contender for the number 1 spot!

Hi everyone!I’m new here and I’m glad to see that I found other people interested about my all time favorite chart show-MTV EUROPEAN TOP 20!!!

My first touch with ET20 was in December 1993…….on the radio!!!A popular radiostation here in Bulgaria broadcasted the show on sunday, just a few hours after it was shown on tv on Saturday.I was amazed by the good music and the chart became my weekly dose of good music and battle for that all important top position!!!

From January 1994 I started my archive-every week I wrote the chart in plane notebook. Then in 1995 the radio stopped the show.In the same time a local newspaper published the chart every sturday. Finally,in March 1996 I joined our cable tv network and start to watch ET20 every week.

Many thanks to Mr. Markus Tolksdorf for sharing the charts from 1993 & 1992 and to Xmas Ben for the charts from November and December 1991!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I hope to see here more charts from the past.
