Child abuse has gone unchecked in the Church of England for decades amid a cover up by bishops, secret papers have revealed.

Information that could have prevented abuse has been "lost or damaged", concerns about individuals have been ignored and allegations have not been recorded. It means that the Church has no idea how many paedophiles are in its midst.

Lawyers warned last night that the Church faces a crisis as catastrophic as the one that engulfed the Roman Catholic Church and cost it millions of pounds in damages.

Richard Scorer, a solicitor who has specialised in child abuse cases, said that the Church of England's mistakes amounted to "an appalling, shocking level of negligence" that is likely to leave it open to claims from victims who have been too afraid to speak out in the past. The Church is to launch an urgent investigation on an unprecedented scale.

child abuse is/was rife in the catholic church, we all know about that so it comes as no great surprise that the c of e were up to it aswell.

'what makes men of god act like this'?... id like to know how these pervs answer that!

People try to excuse how Catholic Priests act by saying it's partly down to the "vow of celibacy" they take.. Which is just a crock of sh!t, and this proves it... C of E does NOT insist on its vicars being celibate or not marrying (I do believe that was one of the things Martin Luther actually protested against when the Lutherans split from the catholic church to form Presbyterianism....)...

You know what...? It seems to me that ALL this child abuse in the church is down to men, I'm not aware of any sexual abuse involving children and Nuns or children and female vicars.. So, here's something really radical. Ban men from being Priests or Vicars..... I'm not joking by the way.....

whilst the vast majority of abuse comes from men in positions of authority, abuse by females also exists.

Abuse, sexual, mental and physical, by nuns is well documented.

Maybe it is that there have been more men in positions of trust/authority to be able to abuse that trust.

I am being cynical in thinking that this is only being brought to the public eye as a money making opportunity for the legal vultures??

WHilst I am not denying abuse is out there and is abhorant - is dragging it all back up, into the public eye and through courts really the best thing for the victims? Will a few £££ be able to make it all worthwhile? Will it make the memories abuse dissappear?

I agree abusers should be punished but just feel that isn't the driving factor ...... again the legal profession feasting on the pain and misery of others.

So we should ban men from being doctors too... Cause the proportion of doctors involved in paedophilia cases is WAY bigger then priests/pastors. And maybe ban men from being fathers, cause the amount of children that are abused by their own parents is like a hundread times bigger then the amount of children being abused by clerical man.

I think ministers who abuse kids should be punished themselves, and not the Church forced to pay indenization with money that was donated by members who don´t have ANYTHING to do with it. Jail should be the punishment, not a millionaire indenization taken from the pocket of Church members.

They would answer it with ignorance and denial.

What makes men act like this? Well it's the attraction due to the negative energy of the judgment. What you judge to be wrong you attract to you, the more you make it wrong in another the more it attracts to you. Same old thing, over and over, what you resist persists.

We have another topic here on the same thing, 'US gay Republican scandal...', it's the same thing, it's a funny world we live in.

Kinda sad also that people are so ignorant. :(

And another thing that will happen as sure as day follows night is the Roman Catholic Church(and to some degree the C of E) will in years to come have a flood of Gay clergyman because they currently make being Gay wrong.

Maybe wise if those 'Christian' people read there own book, which says "Love thy Neighbour as thyself" and also "Judge not, lest ye be judged". You'd think they could understand there own text, it is part of the main text after all. Sadly they still don't get it.
