Paul Raven, bassist with Killing Joke was found dead this weekend in Geneva where he'd been recording with the band Treponem. After spending a day in the studio Paul apparently went to bed and did not wake up. He was 46 years old.

Now, without Raven there'd have been no 'Come As You Are' by Nirvana...

That's really a bloody shame.... :( The Killing Joke were enjoying a really creatively fertile time, their two 00s albums "Killing Joke" and "Hossanahs From The Basement of Hell" were absolutely brilliant and every bit as good as anything they ever did in the 80s; I saw several of their live shows over the past few years and they really kicked ass... KJ were one of the precious few comeback acts who came up with the goods.. They still had that edge to them that the likes of the reformed Sex Pistols and others just utterly lacked, it wasn't just a nostalgia trip for Coleman, Youth, Raven and Co, it was unfinished business.... But I think now with the death of Paul, the final curtain really has come down on this great, totally under-rated band....

And totally agree with you on the Nirvana thing dude, Dave Grohl playing drums on their first comeback album was the absolute proof.....

That is really sad. I haven't listened to the recent albums but I still regularly dig out the stuff that KJ did in the early 80s

RIP.

I saw Killing Joke back in 1985, around the time Love Like Blood was out and they were brilliant, one of the best gigs I ever went to.

a real shame..... one of the great underrated bands of all time, I think.

My absolute favourite KJ moment was one of the lesser-liked ones, 'My Love Of This Land' from 1988 - sounded like the massive hit single they deserved, that one.

Not heard the new stuff at all, though.
