October 24, 200717 yr I quite like the IGN review, except where it says it doesn't bring anything new musically! Hellooooo - Toy Soldier is the most original sounding song I've heard in years! And I don't see why Slate feel the need to compare her to Xtina throughout the whole thing? They couldn't be more different as artists IMO?
October 24, 200717 yr Hellooooo - Toy Soldier is the most original sounding song I've heard in years! I agree

October 24, 200717 yr favourable review from Stuff.co.nz http://www.stuff.co.nz/stuff/asset/four121.jpg (4/4) You want it to be bad. You want it to be really, really bad. You want it to be so eye-squintingly awful this train wreck called Britney Spears disappears from our lives forever. Unfortunately, it's not that bad. In fact, it's nowhere near as bad as it deserves to be. Despite the constant drama - the marriage, the head-shaving, the divorce, the rehab, the custody battle, the MTV performance and the lack of underwear - Britney has done what she used to do better than anyone else: made an enjoyable pop album. From the opening tones of Gimme More to the closing Pharrell Williams-produced ballad Why Should I Be So Sad, Britney proves she can leave her chaotic personal life at the door to produce the goods in the studio. There are classic club tracks (Gimme More, Hot As Ice), sexually suggestive eyebrow-raisers (Break the Ice, Get Naked (I Got A Plan)) and nu-rave romps (Toy Soldier, Ooh Ooh Baby ). On Piece of Me she shows a level of self-awareness that no one has ever given her credit for. Over a futuristic synth-fuelled beat, Britney coos lines like "I'm miss bad media karma, another day, another drama" in the album's defining moment. Okay, so it's not all perfect. Radar takes overblown synths to new, uncharted waters and should be left there to drown, while Heaven On Earth is a toe-curlingly cheesy '80s adventure that should never have seen the light of day. And Britney still can't sing. Her vocals have more layers than a French pastry factory, often sounding so distorted a robot could be singing. But aren't all Britney Spears albums like that? Still, you can't fault the album's production - which comes courtesy of rising star and Timbaland prodigy Nate Hills, among others - and the ability of a pop star to make a comeback like this, despite admitting she's "a freak show". You'll always be a freak show, Britney. But as long as you keep churning out albums as good as Blackout, we won't stop watching. Edited October 24, 200717 yr by lotsofsnails
October 24, 200717 yr I think the album proves what Nate and Kara have always insisted: that at her career, Britney is an absolute pro, and she always works hard to deliver the goods.

October 24, 200717 yr favourable review from Valley Star Student Newspaper: "It's Britney, b**ch." Yes it is and pop music's favorite train wreck is back and in case you forgot she actually does sing and with her new album "Blackout" she is giving us more of the Spears we want. The album's release date has been pushed up from Nov. 13th to Oct. 30th, due to internet leaks, damage control from her recent custody battles and capitalizing on the breakout success of her recent single. "Gimme More" currently number one on iTunes, recently jumped from number 87 to number three on "Billboard's Hot 100 Singles." In fact, "Gimme More" is Spears' biggest hit since her first single "Baby One More Time" reached number one in 1998. "Gimme More," is just a sample of the beat driven album's potential. "Cold as Fire" takes us back with a retro smash that is simple and seems to pay homage to Madonna before she became British; the vocal distorting "Radar" with its blips and bleeps tells what happens when a girl finds the boy she wants. "Heaven on Earth" stands out as a sure fire club hit and radio favorite with Britney's trademark breathy vocals and catchy Donna Summer style melody. No vocal gymnastics or hip-hop guest stars are needed to elevate this song to become a Brit classic. Listeners looking for drama about Mr. Federline should wait for his next album, because Ms. Spears doesn't waste much time wallowing in self-pity with her lyrics. This may be where Spears misses a chance to show some lyrical growth and really put herself out there for a public that may want to hear some sorrow and regret about her last few turbulent years. But Spears, unlike some other artists, knows her vocal range and may just be saving listeners from something truly painful, another ballad. Britney has always had one major talent, and that is choosing the right producers who know how to work with her limited range. This time around she employs the "Next Big Thing" in Timbaland's protégé, Nate "Danja" Hills to elevate the project with a new energy that connects each track. His influence on "Gimme More" seems to excavate material in the same vein as ex-Brit boy toy Justin Timberlake. It would seem as if Britney's career might not be as dead as the press would have predicted with her recent MTV fiasco. She probably won't win any "Mother of the Year" awards but her album is hot. In a business full of Fergies, Rihannas, and Gwens there is still only one Britney and that is more than enough.
October 24, 200717 yr I can't be bothered with a review of each track yet. The stand out track for me is Piece of Me. Really love this one and hope it's the next single! Radar, Break The Ice, Heaven On Earth, and Hot As Ice are other favorites too. I really love the whole album! :D
October 24, 200717 yr Actually, it probably is! It's MUCH more modern sounding and there's not one track I dislike at all! The style might be kinda the same through the album (dance, pop, r&b) but I think each song has it's own sound and identity. :D There's still some variety.
October 25, 200717 yr 1. Gimme More 10/10 - Absolutley amazing song. I love everything about it from the very first second. Danja really has done some great work here with Britney. Her vocals aren't the greatest ever, but that's what I love about Britney, her voice is perfect for pop music. Great production, catchy hook. Love it. 2. Piece Of Me 8/10- Not as great as everyone is making out really, nevertheless I do still like it. Makes Britney's fans aware that she is aware of her public persona. The lyrics actually do mean a lot after I looked them up on Google :P oh and I like the way she says derier :P 3. Radar 9/10- Perfect pop song. I love the chorus, its so god damn CATCHY. 4. Break The Ice 8/10 - I love the opening of this song. Makes me feel like she does actually care about her fans :P 5. Heaven On Earth 9/10- I loveeee the part of the song where she names the body parts LOL. I just think its again, an amazing song. 6. Get Naked (I Got A Plan) 10/10- Clearly one of my standout favourites from the album. Again, Danja has worked his ass off on this album and I think Britney fans owe him alot. 7. Freakshow 8/10- Not a major fan of it, although it has grown on me. Just lacks something. 8. Toy Soldier 10/10- Again, one of my favourites. It's just so different, I feel the same way I did about this song as when I first heard 'Umbrella' 9. Hot As Ice 10/10- Loved it from the demo and it's only got better. Needs to be a single. 10. Ooh Ooh Baby 10/10- Another one of my favourites. Everything about it is fantastic. I love the backing track to it, I think it makes the song tbh. 11. Perfect Lover 8/10 - Not one of the stand out tracks of the album, but it needs to be a classic to do so with an album of such high quality. 12. Why Should I Be Sad 9/10- Wasn't impressed with the title of this song, but it's proved me wrong. I love it. On the whole I'd give Blackout a glowing review. It's got so many brilliant tracks on it. I'd say that it now is my favourite Britney album, overtaking In The Zone. Proper pop songs by a proper popstar 9/10 Edited October 25, 200717 yr by Kieran
October 25, 200717 yr 1. Gimme More [10/10] Adorable. From the lyrics, to the beat. A song that everyone knows, and if they dont, you wonder what they have been doing- Living in a box? Must be one of the best Britney songs ever. 2. Piece Of Me [9.5/10] 'I’m Mrs. Extra! Extra! this just in, (You want a piece of me), I’m Mrs. she’s too big now she’s too thin, (You want a piece of me)' Goes to show that Britney is fed up with being in the public eye. Amazing song and Britney's voice sounds fantastic on it. I'm not too keen on the random screeches at some points of the song, but overall a top class song. Future single maybe? 3. Radar [7.5/10] I'm not overally keen on this song to be honest. I hate the way say she says Radar, it annoys me. The beat, again is hot, but I don't like the lyrics at all. But it's still a good pop song- if a little bit repetative. I just hope she doesnt release this song- It's deffo better off as an album track. 4. Break The Ice [8.5/10] Fantastic song. Not a stand out on the album, but great lyrics and the beat is hot. Again the voice sounds a bit rubbish, but you forget that with the amazing beat in the background. Definatly a track that I would play alot, a good dance track. Not a future single though. 5. Heaven On Earth [9/10] I love this song. I didnt think I would, and the title put me off a little bit, but it's a fantastic tune. The beat again is hot, and Britney's vocals are of course fantastic. Could I see this being single worthy?- Why not. I think it will get a bit of a fanbase. 6. Get Naked [i Got A Plan] [8.5/10] Again, a great song. Good vocals, great lyrics, good beat. This is a definate grower of a song, and the first couple of times I heard it, I hated it. Now it's starting to grow on me a bit, and it could become one of my fave songs from the album in time! :o 7. Freakshow [6/10] I don't like this at all. The least fave song on the album I think. I can see people on the dancefloor to this, but it's not my cup of tea (or coffee, whatever you prefer). I got bored near the end the first couple of times, and my opinon hasnt changed now I've listened a couple more times. :( 8. Toy Soldier [10/10] Fantastic. One of the best songs on the album, I am in love with this. The lyrics are striking and the message of the song is bold. The singing is great. I can see this doing really well if and when it's released. 9. Hot As Ice [11/10] The best song on the album. Addictive, Diffrent & Hot. A fantastic tuneage. It has everything- Great lyrics, hot beat & a fantastic voice singing it. I cant stop playing this song, and it's deffo one of the best Britney songs I have ever EVER heard. Lovely. 10. Ooh Ooh Baby [9.5/10] Again a great dance song. Great lyrics and beat. 11. Perfect Lover [8.5/10] For some reason, it reminded me of Me Against The Music at the beginning. Nothing special, but it's not horrible either. Another dance song, which I can see myself getting drunk to and dancing around like a complete muppet. I do love this song though, and I can see it making a special apperance on my personal chart this week. 12. Why Should I Be Sad [9/10] Fantastic. Fantastic. Fantastic. I love this song- thats all I can possibly say, its HOT HOT HOT! Overall rating- 8.2/10 Stand Out Track- Hot As Ice Least Fave Track- Freakshow
