Another ex-'Ender joins 'The Bill

Former EastEnders actress Lucy Speed has joined the cast of The Bill – following in the footsteps of a long line of ex-Walford stars.

The 31-year-old – who played Natalie Evans intermittently between 1994 and 2004 – has landed the role of feisty new CID officer D.C. Stevie Moss.

Speaking of her signing, Lucy said: "Stevie's such a great character. I'm really looking forward to my first scripts! Stevie's one of those people who you think is really open, but she's just very good at hiding her true feelings and what's going on in her life."

She added: "I think the really exciting part will be my ride-along days with the real police – it'll be great to see how it all happens."

Lucy begins filming at the end of the month and will first appear on screen in the New Year.

Other former Albert Square actors who have landed regular roles or guest appearances in the ITV police drama have included Louisa Lytton, Gillian Taylforth, Roberta Taylor Todd Carty, Hannah Waterman, Pooja Shah, Anita Dobson and Dean Gaffney.

In July, Scott Maslen – Sun Hill's Phil Hunter – became the first soap actor to be successfully poached by another show when EastEnders executives snapped him up at the end of his contract to play womaniser Jack Branning.

Corrupt Cop Zain Nadier returns

The Bill actor TJ Ramini is reprising his Sun Hill role for a special two-part episode of the ITV police drama.

The 32-year-old played corrupt cop Zain Nadir for just under two years and left his shamed character behind in February after being arrested on screen following the fatal shooting of colleage PC Honey Harman (Kim Tiddy).

After becoming involved with drugs baron Kristen Shaw (Christine Stephen-Daly), Zain is spending 10 years behind bars for perverting the course of justice.

Meanwhile, former colleague DCI Jack Meadows (Simon Rouse) stumbles across him behind bars while investigating another drugs case.

With the weight of the investigation on his shoulders, Jack is forced to decide whether he can trust Zain to provide inside information.

Of Ramini's return, Executive Producer Johnathan Young said: "Zain has changed since being imprisoned. He's had to in order to survive, but Jack manages to tap into his inner conscience and we start to see a bit of the old Zain coming back."

He added: "The question is - where do his loyalties really lie?"

Ramini now lives in Los Angeles and has made appearances in various productions including Boston Legal.

The Bill has launched an official YouTube site.

Videos will include previews of upcoming episodes, guest stars and coverage of new cast members at work.

The new site will feature updates from PC Reg Hollis’ podcast Regflections. Other characters will also soon make podcasts for the site at www.youtube.com/thebill.

It comes in time for a planned television-online tie-in with three special interactive episodes in November.

Viewers will be able to get involved in the story with clues, unseen CCTV and mobile phone footage at the YouTube site and www.itv.com/thebill.
