I really like cover designs minus any artist name.... but..... the artist in question has to be an icon to get away with it, an instantly recognisable iconic figure.

 

Madonna, Prince, Bjork, Bowie.... these are artists who can get away with it - and have. Incredibly visual acts with striking images and personas.

 

Celine Dion doesn't really fall in this category for me, though....

I would disagree with you on this point. I think any artist would work as long as it is how the creator intended it. When looking at a cover for this competition, I ignore whoever the artist is and focus mainly on (a) The graphical content and B) A theme. So, if a graphic artist can pull this off without using text, I'm all for it, no matter who the artist.
