Posted October 31, 200717 yr Jennifer Lopez might have to start looking for a new label if she wants to make another original record. A source close to Epic Records and Epic’s parent company, Sony BMG, says that the label is fed up not only with J.Lo’s paltry album sales, but with the amount of money it’s costing to promote the diva. “She costs too much money and doesn’t sell enough,” says the source, who is familiar with the issue. “Her last album cover alone cost $60,000 in hair and makeup, lighting, photographers, re-touching, etc. The video budget was in the neighborhood of $300,000.” And that’s just what it costs to get the album out the door. Lopez performed on “Good Morning America” earlier this month, and all the costs were absorbed by the label. “Epic had to eat the cost for that entire performance. From her makeup — which typically costs in the neighborhood of $8,000 per day — to the backup singers, to the rigging, lighting and sound,” says a source close to the Lopez camp. “The woman requires everything short of flying monkeys to get on a stage.” Lopez also appeared on “Dancing With the Stars,” and a source who is familiar with the standard costs of performing on the ABC hit estimates that it cost Lopez and her label at least $60,000. Lopez has been promoting “Brave,” her first studio album to not debut in the top 10 on Billboard’s charts. “Brave” was released Oct. 9 and sold only 53,000 copies in its first week. The record label makes an average of $4 per CD, according to most estimates. Any way you do the math, the label is not coming close to breaking even on Lopez. “Sony and Epic might keep her,” a source who is familiar with the situation says, “but she’ll be doing little more than greatest hits albums. That you can do without incurring a huge cost. The label is tired of throwing money away.” Reps for Epic say Lopez has not angered them. “We love Jennifer at Epic,” a spokesperson said. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21532762/
October 31, 200717 yr I really hope not too, but come on this is her 3rd album in a row to flop, she can't expect them to keep her based on name alone, even Janet Jackson learned the hard way when Virgin dropped her after having ill-received albums and come on she's a Jackson - if anyone could sell based on a name alone it's a Jackson and even she was shown the door. Poor Jen, but on the bright side she'll find a new label in about 3 seconds flat. Oh and SWEET LORD who needs 8k's worth of makeup on per DAY? There's excess and then there's just pure ridiculous.
November 2, 200717 yr $8000 a day for makeup/hair......I need to have that job. Give that bit$h some Maybelline and call it a day!! LOL
November 4, 200717 yr She´s finished... This album will close its first month on sale with less then 100,000 copies sold in USA. That´s pathethic. She demans money like a huge diva, but sells like a garage rock band. She should invest on music instead of futilities.
November 4, 200717 yr apparently Brave is the 2nd single That will kill the album off completely. I know there's next to no hope of reviving it, but 'Hold It, Don't Drop It' or even 'Mile In These Shoes' would be wiser choices if they REALLY want to try and dig it out of the mud.
November 4, 200717 yr It wouldnt surprise me if she is dropped. Her last album in the UK didnt sell great and this one has sold alot less.
November 5, 200717 yr It wouldn't surprise me, "Do It Well" is amazing, but people are losing interest in her and her music.
November 8, 200717 yr because Brave is the best album track imo agree alongside MITS ^_^ and now according to AllAccess "Brave" is the 2nd single, and not HIDD :D
November 16, 200717 yr J wont get dropped.. big mistake if they did drop her.... J would easily get another straight away anyway
