Posted May 14, 200619 yr 2006 has seen a lot of dance music breaking through into the Top 10 on a regular basis and with a lot of high profile dance releases coming up for the summer...could 2006 be the year that dance comes back in a strong way? 2005 certainly was a dry spell with what with bodyrockers being the biggest commercial dance release around but already in 2006 there has been quite a few top 10 successes and this week alone there is 5 dance anthems in the top 10. What are your opinions on this? I think it's great to finally see it's return, i've also noticed that a lot of rnb acts haven't done so well this year in comparison to last year.
May 14, 200619 yr I think Dance music has been more successful this year because the quality of Dance tracks has improved.
May 14, 200619 yr REAL dance music continues to be mis-represented within the mainstream (unless you include bubblegum pop rubbish like Beatfreakz, Hi-Tack, Sunblock etc). Quality wise, there is some good out there, but you have to look a lot further than the Top 40.
May 14, 200619 yr Dance so far this year has been a zillion times better than last year, my interest in the genre is revived.
May 14, 200619 yr It's been ok, but hardly a comeback. Its still on level with 2003-2005, which were the worst dance years ever imo
May 18, 200619 yr I hope it is but so far the dance music has been disappointing. It's mostly sampled loops or old classics. I wish we could have dance music that is completely NEW like Infernal.
May 18, 200619 yr I agree...look whats happening with Infernal 5 weeks in the top 5 with sales of around 150k by sunday...more brand new europop and dance needs to come out
May 18, 200619 yr I think Dance music has been more successful this year because the quality of Dance tracks has improved. I disagree about the qaulity, it's gone down hill from last year. Still it's hitting the charts because cheesy and reviving of old records has been a success. They are way, way 2 many dance releases that are just like hardcore and will not be popular and this holds dance back commericially. Pushing hardcode dance just divids the dance community up. And in that division there is not enough interest to buy dance records. Thankfully after 2005 , there seems to be a realisation of this. The best dance record of 2005 was in my view Reflekt - Need to feel loved. How did it do commerically? Well basically it didn't. The most commerically successfull dance of 2006 so far. Infernal, cheesy poo. No contest.
May 18, 200619 yr REAL dance music continues to be mis-represented within the mainstream (unless you include bubblegum pop rubbish like Beatfreakz, Hi-Tack, Sunblock etc). Quality wise, there is some good out there, but you have to look a lot further than the Top 40. What you mean by REAL dance music is unfortunately stuff that will not sell in any useful qualtities. Beatfreakz, Hi-Tack, Sunblock are all old tracks re-done. And add the successful Meck to that also ;) Infernal is cheese, nice cheese, but cheesy none the less. Chicane is a class tune however B) but because it's not some catchy poppy thing, it gets no air play.
May 18, 200619 yr People complain that the most popular dance tunes are always the cheesy, but that happens in every genre. I cannot imagine Pussycat Dolls and Christina Milian being the best of R´n´b... Or Artic Monkeys being anywhere near a good rock band.
May 19, 200619 yr Yes, there have been lots of good dance songs this year much better than the last few years imo.
