I'll post more when I remember. Funny how its mostly european artists and dance songs, Europe's main identity...

Next up late 90s, which are gonna be a pain in the ass to compile

Christina's "Dirrty" and Evanescence's "Bring Me To Life" never charted on the top 20 despite being very popular in Europe.
I am SURE I remember Evanescence being in the countdown?

Comme is right, both never charted :o

2003 was a p*** poor year for the chart, so not surprised.

Added some moore to the list.

I think what I'm going to write will be long and chaotic...

I'm a little confused - where did you find this information about the bubblers in European Top 20 during the years?

I started watching the chart in April 2000. I do remember that in some weeks there were bubblers but I can only confirm some of the ones in Jamse's list - although there were periods of time when I was able to watch only the Top 10 of the chart so it's possible that I have missed some bubblers.

So here are the ones I can confirm were played as bubblers in the chart:

Mary Mary - Shackles - in fact, I seem to remember that they played it as a bubbler for TWO WEEKS in a row! That's why I was very annoyed when it entered the chart - I thought: "Yeah, it entered just because they were promoting it so much"...

Artful Dodger - Woman Trouble

Aqua - Bumblebees - that was one of the most memorable editions of the chart as Aqua presented the Top 20 (I have already told this story) so of course they would promote their own song!

Truesteppers, Dane Bowers and Victoria - Out Of Your Mind

Artful Dodger & Melanie Blatt - Twentyfourseven

Gorillaz - Rock Da House

Sum 41 - Fat Lip

Lenny Kravitz - Stillness Of Heart - and the chart presenter announced it with the words: "Now this man used to rock..."

David Charvet - Leap Of Faith - and then later I was so disappointed when not this song but a song by another David entered the chart - Guetta's "Love Don't Let Me Go"...

Here are some which I'm not sure about - I think I saw them on European Top 20 but it might have been on another show on MTV Europe:

Montell Jordan - Get It On Tonite - or at least some song by Montell Jordan

Mandy Moore - Candy

Pink - There You Go

Sweet Female Attitude - Flowers

U2 - Beautiful Day

Samantha Mumba - Baby Come On Over - or at least some song by Samantha Mumba

Alcazar - Crying At The Discotheque

IIO - Rapture

Creed - My Sacrifice

Macy Gray - Sexual Revolution

DB Boulevard - Point Of View

These two are a special case:

Kylie Minogue - Can't Get You Out Of My Head

Emma Bunton - Take My Breath Away

They weren't played during the chart; Joanne was just reading some emails sent to her by fans of the chart. One was asking whether "Can't Get You Out Of My Head" would enter the chart - Joanne answered that it was a very strong contender. Another was asking whether "Take My Breath Away" would enter the chart - Joanne answered that it wasn't very probable...

Here are two videos which don't appear in Jamse's list but I'm SURE were played as bubblers:

DJ Jurgen - Higher & Higher

Texas - In Demand - Kicki specifically mentioned that it was "very hot" in The Netherlands

I'm not sure about these ones but maybe they were also bubblers:

Whitney Houston & George Michael - If I Told You That

Alice Deejay - Will I Ever

Then maybe I didn't understand correctly but in one edition I think I heard Trey mention a song that was successful across Europe, which goes: "La La La La La"... I wanted to believe he was talking about ATC's song!

In early 2003, Ina-Geraldine presented "Kusha Las Payas" (only a part of the video was played) but not as a bubbler - as a matter of fact, she mentioned that it was so unimpressive compared to "Asereje"...

Hopefully I'll remember some other pieces of information as well!

Euphorique, A LOT can be added to that list of big hits not making it to European Top 20 - maybe I'll contribute later as well. For now I just want to mention that you have listed incorrectly S Club 7's "Bring It All Back" - it did enter the chart!

I found them at one of the google groups, a member used to post the European Top20 during many weeks in the late 90s. Most of the weeks had "Hot in/Hit in" somewhere in Europe. When you started watching they stopped with the "hot/hit" thing and just played bubblers, but it was a lot rarer.

That David Charvet song did deserve to chart around the bottom of the top20, but Guetta's song deserved to enter more. However, but should've been there had they not been so lazy in the 00s with new entries.

As for the songs I thought should've made it, I only did 2000-2002. I'm sure there are several others.

The Lalalala song had to be ATC, if it was in 2000.

Mary Mary's "Shackles" is one of the most underserving #1s, not because the song is bad, but because the song was not a huge hit in Europe.

Thanks so much :)

From that list, I know that the following made the Hitstastic International Top 30 (formerly HET30 :P ) peaking inside the top 10 - bare in mind the chart started in January 2001:

#4 Safri Duo - Played A Live

#3 Faith Hill - There You'll Be

#2 Mad'House - Like A Prayer

#7 Scooter - Ramp! (The Logical Song)

#4 Scooter - Nessaja

#6 Kate Winslet - What If

#10 A*Teens - Upside Down

#8 Public Domain - Operation Blade

#4 Daddy DJ - Daddy DJ

#7 Enya - Only Time

I recognise most of the others that definitely made the top 30 but I can't quite remember exactly where they peaked (I don't have any records of the HET30 pre-2004 :( ).

Many songs didnt chart in the same period of time across Europe, instead they started hits somewhere and then moved slowly elsewhere while becoming less popular where they were initially successful.
I'm a little confused - where did you find this information about the bubblers in European Top 20 during the years?

The bubblers given in the list I posted are from the charts I´ve watched. However, I´m so impressed by the things you actually remember of the chart and in such great detail.

The first song I remember seeing on the chart was Peter Gabriel with "Digging In The Dirt" so I´ve been following this since late 1992....

Many songs didnt chart in the same period of time across Europe, instead they started hits somewhere and then moved slowly elsewhere while becoming less popular where they were initially successful.

The biggest examples of this being:

Bomfunk MCs - Freestyler (pretty much a hit in at least two countries per months for the duration of 2000. Started off big in Holland, made central Europe in Spring, the UK in summer, and finally Australia in the Autumn). :D

Juanes - La Camisra Negra = 43 weeks spent on the HET30 achiving its highest peak of #6 around its 30th week on the chart.

Edward Maya & Vika Jigulina - Stereo Love = 47 weeks on the chart starting off as a massive hit in Eastern Europe before becoming a hit across Europe spread over a good six month period. Then the UK & Ireland made it a hit then bizarrely Austria and Germany got the track in their charts last (it's usually the UK where such a track would become a hit last).

I remember watching the European Top 20; BEST OF 1998 and they played a "Bubbler" in the first half of the show but it turned out to be a song that was part of the end-of-year edition. They played Fatboy Slim´s "Rockafellar Skank" and perhaps we should call it number 21 on the final chart of 1998.....doesn´t make much sense when we look at its overall chart run of 4 weeks and its peak at number 7 but then again neither did number 19 on this chart; Fastball with "The Way" - 1 week on the chart and at number 15.....

Bubblers

991215

Whitney Houston - I Learned From The Best

Melanie C - Northern Star

Purely nostalgic :)

Eden was big on MTV; European Top 20, Dancefloor Chart, MTV Select...

For a long time and up until February 1996, ET20 premiered on Saturday evenings 1900 - 2100 CET with re-runs on Sunday 1130 - 1330 CET.

Yeah, its crazy how things were so much better back then. Heck, I've been thinking about my favourite radio station here in Portugal and how its gone to the crapper, up until 2002 it was the absolute best, now its lost its identity and is just overall bad.

European Top 20 with Roxette in 1991 (Plane Blue Graphics)

Roxette - Fading Like A Flower

Roxette - The Big L

Edited by Jamse

There's no George Michael's version of Roxanne in 1999 edition of the European Top 20? There is only '97 version of the song (Puff Daddy Remix) at the end of December 1997 :( :( :(
