I no longer have access to the server to which I published my archive. Also I spent less time on the charts, but still I have my archive. I need to find some fitting webspace, to where I can move my site and then I can publish them again. Nice that other people think of me :)

Are we sure that this is an actual edition of European Top 20 Best of 1992 Chart? I don't dispute the order of the entries here as they were often presented with a somewhat illogical order (chart performance wise) but all the same always contained songs that actually charted in that year. Four of the twenty songs in this list didn't actually chart.

 

There are two types of "Best Of" charts for ET20. The first one is an edition of the chart that plays all the number 1 songs of that year in order like in 1988 and 1993. The second one is an actual Top 20 countdown filled with charting songs that have performed well that year with the idea that the longest number one should be at the top. Not only did 4 of the songs not chart during that year but none of the songs in the above list topped the chart so it certainly makes me wonder...

Yes, I think it is based on preferences of chart makers or MTV's VJs.

 

The oldest chart I have is from 28th of September 1991, but I'm still looking for the charts from 1988 and 1989. I ask many people.

However, the chart clearly looks very different from the catalogue of ET charts archived. Markus Tolksdorf has credited you on his page for sharing charts from 1991 to 1995 (his page has been down for a few years now). I'm guessing he had the same concerns about that chart that I did and excluded it from his page but I'll except it as is. Mystery solved. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks to Svilen Borisov (who recorded it on a VHS cassette) we have the opportunity to see the 1988 MTV Euro Top 20 for the first time...

These are the full chart positions introduced at the end from Ray Cokes. No. 26 in Germany was C.C. Catch with "House Of Mystic Lights and judging by Official German Singles Chart,

this edition was between 20-26 June 1988.

Just to reiterate, this type of "chart of the year" was simply all the number 1 songs of that year played in chronological order and for 1993 that meant a total of 18 songs.

Ray Cokes was the host for a handful of 1988 ET charts including this one so its safe to say he was probably a regular host of the show during this time (as I mentioned sometime back). In either BJ or Ukmix, years ago, I recall a comment about someone who had a VHS tape of the ET20 taped during the summer of 1988 in which Michael Jackson "Another Part Of Me" was Nr 1 though wasn't able to confirm this but since this chart also came from a VHS tape, I have to wonder if there is more where that came from...?
