Does it really matter - no-one in Europe likes us anyway.

After all, we only got points from Ireland and Malta - and there's been reports that the latter giving us their 12 this year was as a protest against the countries in the East voting for each other.

We could - doesn't matter what nationality the singer is. Olivia Newton John represented us in the 1970's and she's an Aussie.

We still wouldn't win even with Kylie ... the rest of Europe hates us when it comes to Eurovision. I think we could bring Elvis back from the dead, singing a song composed by John Lennon (yes after we bring him back from the dead too) and we'd still come last!

Europe doesn't hate us. :manson: The only "evidence" anyone has for a statement like that is because we've done sit from 2003-7 and have, by pure coincidence it seems , sent absolute dirge - year after year. Had we sent Jessica Garlick in 2003 (when the Iraq war was in full swing) or this year, we would've still achieved a respectable placing.

If we ever send a decent song ala Katrina & the Waves; Imaani; Jessica Garlick; Cyndi and still do $h!t, granted I will hold my hands up and say I was wrong - but I doubt it.

I agree Dave ... we have sent some c**p over in the last few years ... but not c**p enough to warrant being in the bottom three for what seems forever now. To be honest though ... the voting is the most interesting thing about it. I just wait till that bit now to tune in ... because you know which countries will give each other top marks (we usually have the family round and take bets over a few glasses of wine and nibbles).

Only Scooch, Javine and Jemini actually came bottom three for us though! :heehee:

Amy winehouse - would be amazing she would make the UK look way better than these last 10 years in eurovision lol

And on the Jemini occasion ... they definitely came in 10 places higher than they should have.

Wasn't Olivia born in the UK though?

I know recently a British girl represented Cyprus, but I'm sure she had a Cypriot grandfather or something equally obscure.

Agreed with the rest though!

She was, Cambridgeshire but I think she became a naturalised Australian very young. Besides, Cliff sang twice and he was born in India. And Celine Dion represented either Switzerland or Luxembourg (can't remember which) and she was born in Quebec. So I don't think birthplace matters. The song just has to be c**p to win.

That's ridiculous - Look at the past four years of wins!

2007 - Marija Šerifović with 'Molitva' - by far one of, if not the most, beautiful and powerful songs Eurovision has ever given us.

2006 - Lordi with 'Hard Rock Hallelujah' - a little gimmicky for my taste with the masks, but I think a lot of rock fans would tell you it's a good piece of music - and we responded well to it aswell, it reached no 25 on our top 40, and it was probably the most original song on Eurovision history

2005 - Helena Paparizou with 'My Number One' - a catch, fresh song and she's very popular in and around her home country

2004 - Ruslana with 'Wild Dancers' - another original song, which we've never seen anything like on Eurovision before.

Yet in those years we sent the most unoriginal boring and repetative songs in the form of Scooch, Javine, James Fox and Daz Sampson. I won't even mention Jemini.
