Can't see this anywhere else, but in Star mag they said Will was one of the guests at the Mandela after-show party

Surely this is not true

Just recap on this. I got my husband to pick the Star mag up. It wasn't the after-show party it was the party they held for Mandela on the WEDNESDAY - BEFORE the concert. So he was probably there.

Scottish Sunday Mail - 6 July 2008

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I've just seen an advert for tomorrow's paper, and Will is the full page cover - heading 'Good Will'.

The picture is the slightly moody one of him in the grey overcoat.(FC era), and it's the 'Seven Days ' Magazine that comes with the paper.

Now, just to be clear - this is the Scottish Sunday Mail - not the Scottish edition of the Mail on Sunday. It's the sister paper of the Daily Record (red top), and I think it's quite readily available throughout the UK.

what fabulous publicity - just ahead of TITP and the tour.

And here's a couple of extracts from the interview. Waiting for a scan :D

It was a risk, people could not have turned up, so it was nice to feel it paid off & now I'm very excited about T beacause I'm sure it will go even better there.

I knew my material was good enough & I have confidence in my band & ability.

I feel it's a set that can stand up with a lot of new stuff which went down well at Glastonbury and I'm sure will go down even better at T - Scottish audiences are always so generous. I did the right stage at Glastonbury, one slightly under the radar, and I'm doing the right one at T in the Pet Sounds.

The album is looking great- very together and unified and very of the moment. I feel like I am in a very good place and it shows in the music. What's in you comes out - and I have never been happier both in work and personally. You are never sure how it will go but the signs are good. My second album FC sold a million in three weeks and although sales have dipped now in general I am back on that form in terms of my headspace and of the music

I have a good feeling about it - the reaction last weekend was a big boost for me.

He IS in a very good place and seems to have offloaded stuff that was holding him back  I reckon he's got a winner on his hands - feeling really good about this one.

Here's the interview - kindly typed out by Diz on the O/S :D

Showbiz-The big interview.

-----"I'll host reality show....but not as Mr Nasty"--- Will Young says he'd rather help singers than slag them off on TV.

Will Young got his big break on a TV reality show--and now he wants to front one of his own.

But the Pop Idol winner admits he could never be like Mr Nasty Simon Cowell- because he's Mr Nice.

And unlike fellow pop show winner Cheryl Cole, he wants to help youngsters with their singing rather than cast judgement on them.

Cheryl launched her career by winning Popstars: The Rivals with Girls Aloud and is the latest judge on X Factor.

Will who runs workshops for young singers, said: " I don't knowif I see myself being a judge on something like X Factor but the idea of working with younger people trying to set out to be singers is wonderful.

"The idea of helping people do what I did is very appealing. I can see why Cheryl is doing it.

"I would love to do something for TV based on singing workshops - like the acting workshops that used to be on with people like Judi Dench.

"I don't know about being a judge- I think I'd find fulfilment by doing it in other ways.

"The idea of helping appeals. I find it enthuses me and and makes me realise how lucky I am to do what I do."

Since braving the wrath of Cowell and winning Pop Idol in 2002, Will has become a hugely successful singer but his forthcoming album Let It Go has broken new ground by paving the way for him to play rock festivals.

Previously restricted to pop events, last weekend he achieved a lifetime's ambition by performing at Glastonbury - and can't wait to make his T in the Park debut next Saturday.

Will, 29, said: "It feels like a new door has opened in a great way, it's very exciting.

"Glastonbury was amazing. It was my first time gigging but I've been going for nine years. It was weird togo not as a punter.

"It's great that six year on I'm still doing new exciting things. I haven't become jaded.

"I have never done festivals and it feels like the right time to be doing it.

" The feeling at Glastonbury was positive and I didn't know it necessarily would be.

"It was a risk , people could not have turned up, so it was nice to feel it paid off and now I'm very excited about T because I'm sure it will go even better there.

"I knew my material was good enough and I have confidence in my bandand ability.

"I feel it's a set that can stand up with a lot of new stuff which went down well at Glastonbury and I'm sure it will go down even better at T - Scottish audiences are always so generous. I did the right stage at Glastonbury, one slightly under the radar, and I'm doing the right one at T in the Pet Sounds." Unlike most artists, Will stayed for the weekend at the legendary Somerset festival - and plans to hang around all day on Saturday at Balado.

And his fans might be surprised at the other acts he wants to see.

He told me: "I really want to see Rage Against The Machine - I think they will be incredible.

"And there are a few others - like The Raconteurs, I love them, I have both albums and I'm a big fan.

"It's funny, people are surprised to see me at gigs but I go to as many as possible.

"I was at this Red Hot Chilli Peppers gig ages ago and some guy could not believe it and asked me what the hell I was doing there.

"I asked him the same thing. He was probably about seven years younger than me so I was going to gigs when he was in nappies!

"Just because I work in the pop genre does not mean that I don't enjoy other styles. You really should not judge people.

"It's essential as an artist to hear as much as possible and I actually go back to old music a lot.

"In this age of iTunes it becomes about one upmanship - having something first but not necessarily getting round to listening to it.

"I like to live with albums but it's not imperative as a creative person to hear new music, see films, go to the theatre. That's why i love festivals, it's a chance to see somuch."

Will's new album - out September 29 - is his best yet according to the man himself. His enthusiasm for the record is blindingly obvious - and his hopes are high.

He said: " The album islooking great - very together and unified and very of the moment.

"I feel like I am in a realy good place and it shows in the music. What's in you comes out -and i have never been happier both in work and personally.

"You're never sure how it will go but the signs are good. My second album Friday's Child sold a million in three weeks and although sales have dipped now in general I am back on that form in terms of my headspace and the music.

"I have a good feeling about it - the reaction last week wasa big boost for me."

As well as his successsful recording career, Will has also reaped critical acclaim for his recent forays into acting.

His movie debut in Mrs Henderson Presents won him rave reviews, swiftly followed by more of the same for his role as Nicky in the Royal Exchange Theatre's production of The Vortex by Noel Coward.

Will is desperate to fit in more acting and he admits the culture shock of returning to auditions is helping keep his feet firmly on the ground.

He said: "I love the acting and maybe next year when the album is in full swing I will do some more.

"I loved the film and especially the play but it's weird for me. In popI am my own boss, I make my album and I decide who does what. In acting I have to audition.

"I'm at the bottom of the pile and don't get the job sometimes. It stops me becoming a diva I suppose.

"For the pay I got honest reviews, not all amazing but they all said I could do it which was wonderful - if you think music critics are bad, theatre ones can be really tough.

"I feel I have work to do in winning people over, which is all right as it was the same with music. It's a big challenge, so two jobs in two years of acting is not bad.

"I love the theatre but would love to do something great on TV next.

"I have heard they are planning a Northern Soul film which would be interesting to do but I would love to be in a one off TV thing, like Cranford.

"But any acting job would be great so I'm open to offers."

Thanks for bringing the article over munchkin.

Love hearing him sound so happy & confident in the new material. :D :D He's now got the career he wants, after years of fighting for it. :cheer:

Pleased he wants to do more acting too. Would love seeing him on our tv screens.

Didn't know he ran wokshops for you singers but isn't that so Will. He probably does it as part of his role as ambassador for the Princes Trust.

Thanks for bringing it over Munchkin :cheer:

He seems pretty confident about this album and so proud of it

Parking and Getting to and from the Festival

There is no parking available on or around the site. The best taxi drop off is on Burlington Lane off Great Chertsey Road and the Hogarth Roundabout. Please note that the Trust and the local police have requested that taxis dropping off or picking up do so on the quiet stretch of Burlington Lane alongside the grounds and not on the main road directly outside the gate to avoid congestion and traffic problems.

The nearest train station is Chiswick Railway Station (½ mile) and the nearest tube is Turnham Green (3/4 mile). The 190 bus runs from Hammersmith to Richmond and the E3 runs from Greenford to Chiswick.

When you arrive

The entrance to the Festival is only possible from the front of Chiswick House. A member of staff will give you a wristband and Festival programme in exchange for your ticket. Please note that your wristband is non-transferable.

And finally

Who knows what the weather will be like. We have our fingers crossed and are doing a sundance daily but it is worth making sure that you come prepared for all conditions as it has been so changeable.

Thanks sunday, so we can leave at about 10pm then can't we? there's nothing of any interest left for me remaining after Will's been on. :naughty:

Edited by suggy

Hi suggy really glad Will is on later  [ it would have been an anti climax to have seen Will and then to have the other acts on after him  ] and like you say ends perfectly to leave at 10pm...great that he as got a long slot :cheer:
It was like that when I saw Will for the first time at the Party in the Park in Brum. Will came on second to last before Ronan and I left then and managed to avoid the crowd. It was very tedious waiting for him.

Thanks to gazdolphin re The Sunday Night Project.

It's not much, but this is what will be appearing in most of the TV guides on the shelves:

Featuring guest host Will Young, who is set a variety of tasks to complete including providing an opening show monologue, performing themed comedy sketches and taking part in tailor-made games. Last in series, with Justin Lee Collins and Alan Carr.

Thanks TT.

Are we the only ones here TT? Only thought sunday and suggy were going this evening.
