Albarn demands end to 'X Factor'

Thursday, December 27 2007, 16:02 GMT

Damon Albarn has called for The X Factor to be scrapped immediately.

The Blur frontman cited the ITV talent search as the cause of society's skewed priorities during a stint as guest editor of Radio 4's Today programme.

He said: "We need to dismantle very significant parts of our culture and really re-examine them. For a start you have to get rid of things like The X Factor immediately.”

The 39-year-old added: “I think it sends out all the wrong messages. I think it’s creating a mindset which suggests that you can get something for nothing, that it’s easy to acquire status and fame, which is rubbish. It should be one of the hardest things to do.”

X Factor winner Leon Jackson is currently at number one with his debut single 'When You Believe', while Blur battled for five years before finding success with their breakthrough album Parklife in 1994.

An HMV spokesman said: “X Factor does raise expectations of some people with no talent but it’s also a new way of introducing genuine talent direct to the public.

“Leona may never have found a career without the show. Girls Aloud and Will Young have built careers from talent shows. The paying public votes with their feet.”

Do agree it's time to give X Factor a rest at least for a few years.

Thanks TT, although there doesn't look like there's going to be any let up in the x-factor shows, they've already given out the number for this years auditions and no doubt we'll be getting another Britains Got Talent on tv this summer as well.

I've also seen an advert for a rock reality show  with Cowell as the producer. That man has far too much power, no wonder his acts are dominating the charts! :arrr:

I can see a big backlash coming soon, not from ITV of course  but from the music industry and media.

Thanks to Lea4Will, Will's at no8 in Heats top bods. :D

“So we know he's never likely to love us back, being what your mum would call "not the marrying kind", but that doesn't stop us from admiring his gorgeous body, sparkling eyes and goosebump-inducing voice. Plus, when he's got his kit on he's a very well-dressed chap to boot.”

In the NOTW today

Kate Moss and her boyfriend, joined the likes of Keira Knightley and Will Young to salute Sienna Miller's 27th birthday.

Seems he's still very friendly with Matthew Williamson. Hope he doesn't go getting the wrong idea again. ;)

Well if he doesn't..the press will.  .MW seems to like to be linked to our guy..and who could blame him?

Thanks for the snippets TT and the link munchkin, looks like Will has spent part of Christmas around London this year, he's been spotted a few times hasn't he? Matthew appears to be staying close to Will again as well. ;)
"Celebrities" or not - it's good he has friends who rally round and are there for him. Someone once asked him which famous people/celebrities he had on his phone. He said "I don't, just my friends".
