Channel 4 ups festival coverage for summer 08

15:59 | Friday May 30, 2008

By Ben Cardew

Channel 4 has added the LoveBox, Wakestock and Rockness festivals to its summer coverage.

The broadcaster’s festival season – which will also see it return to V Festival, Bestival, Wireless and T4 On the Beach - kicks off on June 7 and 8 with the Rockness festival in Dores in Scotland. Channel 4 will be showing highlights.

The second new festival to be added to Channel 4’s roster this year is wakeboarding and music festival Wakestock. The festival is held at two locations (Blenheim and Abersoch) over the summer and Channel 4 will be covering the Blenheim section from June 27 to 29. It will air two highlights shows in July.

The third festival to be added to Channel 4’s summer coverage is the LoveBox London Weekender on July 19 to 20.

I hope we get to see something of Will's set

Wrong about Mark Ronson must have been another festival I was looking at.

Here's the blurb from Seetickets re the Lovebox Weekender.

Lovebox WeekenderLondon | 19-20 July 2008

Eclectic, award-winning festival hosted by Groove Armada in the heart of London.

Line up:

The Flaming Lips, Goldfrapp, Roni Size & Reprazent, Groove Armada, Jack Penate, The Human League, Secretsundaze, Horsemeat Disco and many more to be announced...

There's a Will connnection with Groove Armada & day tickets are only £38.50. Come on Will. Think I could make this one.

Nice to see Will's name sharing the headline

Will Young and The Kooks share House?

The House Festival returns to Chiswick House & Gardens in London on July 10.

Just in case anyone unfamiliar with the event thinks it might be the capital's Ibiza alternative for dance fans, the festival boasts a stellar and varied line up of pop and rock acts including Will Young, Goldfrapp, The Kooks, Imelda May, The Feeling and Sophie Ellis Bextor. The latter two played at last year's debut House Festival along with Lily Allen and The Magic Numbers amongst others.

It was originally intended to be a one-off but the organisers said: "We had such a good time last year we have decided to do it all over again. The House and Gardens provided a stunning setting for the Festival and we’re grateful to Chiswick House & Gardens Trust for asking us back..."

Tickets are £150 per person, which sounds steep but once inside the festival all your food, drink and entertainment is included. A lavish feast of seafood, hog roasts and barbecues will be available from the food stalls around the site and there will be several bars.

Not long before you see them all.

I don't see any reason why he didn't go, unless of course he was having to do his video etc. Haven't got a cross-fingers sign. That's far more important to us. Time seems to be hanging heavy.

Want him back then we might just get some news. I'm sure we're told nothing without Will's say so.

I'm back. Well for the moment at least - I'm going out later.

Once upon a time, in particular during that first year, I've no doubt Will had a very tough time, especially with SC. He's had to fight hard to be his own man, but I've no doubt he's got there, and nowadays I think everything that is done is very much on Will's say so. And why not - he, at least, has proved himself.

Hope you managed to get things sorted chrysalis.

Agree what you say Will is nobody's puppet. Makes me laugh when fans of other artists defend their favs when they mime by saying they were told to do it. I know what Will would say. :P

Enjoy your evening.

Sorry chrysalis. Here's what it says. Just a tiny Will mention.

We're Having A Green Ball

Jun 3 2008 By Samantha Booth

Rare Vintage Dresses Are Being Snapped Up Ahead Of Scotland's First Eco-Friendly Charity Bash

A FUNDRAISING ball to raise cash for The Princes Trust promises to be the first eco event of its kind.

The green carpet bash is the first to monitor its carbon footprint and the organisers are striving to make every aspect of the ball as environmentally friendly as possible which, of course, means encouraging the ladies to wear vintage dresses.

As well as having reusable cotton goodie bags - the design of which will be picked by Will Young from dozens of student entries - locally-sourced dinner ingredients, organic wine and a range of green alternatives to the usual taxi home, organisers are trying to get the girls to buy classic designer numbers to wear to the bash in a bid to promote eco chic.

Which is why vintage clothes shop Brigitte in Glasgow is giving the event, known as the Black and White Ball - because the need for environmental change is black and white - its full support.

Store owner and vintage clothing enthusiast Michelle Cogan said: "I think having a green fundraising ball is a great idea.

"People are becoming more aware of green issues these days and seem to be trying to change their ways.

"Buying vintage clothing is certainly one way people can do their bit.

"Besides, you can pretty much be guaranteed that with a vintage dress, no one else is going to be there wearing the same thing.

"Each piece is pretty much unique so, as well as being eco chic, vintage clothing is a great way for people to express their individuality."

Michelle, 26, opened Brigitte two years ago.

She stocks the best 20th century dresses, shoes and accessories from top designer labels such as Valentino, Pierre Cardin, Chanel, Victor Costa and Dior, mainly sourced from private estate sales in America.

She said: "The dresses I buy have quite likely been bought by a wealthy lady at some point, worn once and then left at the back of the wardrobe until they decided to have a clear-out or possibly passed away.

"I can also source dresses for people if they give me an idea of what they are looking for.

"Vintage dresses are a great way to buy something classic that you will want to keep forever. The only real problem with them is that they are quite small made.

"People today are just much bigger than they used to be but it is amazing what a pair of Spanx can do."

Michelle is also hosting an exhibition for ladies attending the ball, or anyone who would like to take a look at the vintage gowns, on Saturday. She said: "I will have a couple of models and loads of really great dresses in for people to see.

"I am happy to help people pick something that really suits them and, if there is nothing they fancy, I will see if I can find them the kind of dress they want before the ball."

The exhibition will also include vintage and contemporary jewellery by joolbox and Nailzone will also be on hand to give tips on making your nails look fabulous.

Amy Sieweke, of consultants Capgemini, who are organising the ball, said: "The Black and White ball really is going to be a unique event.

"It is the first event of its kind to monitor its carbon footprint and we will actually have a real green carpet thanks to Bishopbriggs Academy.

"Capgemini work alongside The Princes Trust and, as a company, we are delighted to be able to take this opportunity to help change the lives of young people, but it is also about raising awareness of the need for environmental change and about showing being green doesn't necessarily mean forgoing fun and luxury."

The ball, which will be held on August 15 at the Sheraton Hotel in Edinburgh, will also feature a Stella McCartney showcase, an auction and sought-after, environmentally-friendly goodie bags designed by a student from the Edinburgh area, which organisers hope to be able to sell after the event.

'People are becoming more aware of green issues these days and trying to change their ways'

Thanks TT. I don't think I do very much towards a greener environment, especially driving. Living in the outback one relies so heavily on the car. But I do recycle as much as I can, and I do take old bags (I don't include myself although I know I am  ) when shopping. Wonder if the bags will be on sale.
