Results of Retro Soundclash #43

Joy Division - Love Will Tear Us Apart [ 9 ] [81.82%]

Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody [ 2 ] [18.18%]

Another lop-sided victory for LWTUA as it disposes of Bo Rap easily. Next it's the battle of the miserable raincoat brigade as JD take on Echo and the Bunnymen's The Killing Moon.

You have until whenever I get round to announcing the results to vote!

Echo & The Bunnymen

I think the only songs I might vote above LWTUA are Sheriff Fatman by Carter and It's On by Flowered Up, so I can't see me ever changing.

Shame, as Killing Moon destroys most of the previous champions.

Funnily enough I was thinking of bringing The Smiths in real soon. I do have a song in mind but please post your suggestions here.

I was thinking that for the 50th Retro Soundclash of having some sort of second chance for some of those that never won once. Either I could do a poll or have people nominate - what do people think? Or should I not bother and just keep going with new records?

A few to ponder -

"How Soon Is Now"

"There Is A Light That Never Goes Out"

"Bigmouth Strikes Again"

"Panic"

"The Boy With The Thorn In His Side"

"Last Night I Dreamt Somebody Loved Me"

"Reel Around The Fountain".....

Any one of these (and at least a dozen more I reckon....) would inspire a pretty close vote....

The Bunnymen for me this time.... one of the best intros ever - and they still make pretty fabulous music, too.

The Smiths would be a great one... problem is, everyone has wildly conflicting tastes when it comes to their favourite Smiths songs (and some bizarre people don't even like the band at all, bless them).... for me, my choices would be...

Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me

Bigmouth Strikes Again

Shoplifters of the World Unite

There is a Light That Never Goes Out

Hand in Glove

What Difference Does It Make?

I Started Something I Couldn't Finish

That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore

in fact, even an average Smiths single like Panic, Ask or Sheila Take a Bow would blow away Joy Division in my books....

interesting idea.... maybe some should be given a second chance as there are more people doing this now..

Love both of these tracks, but it's still Joy Division for me. It's going to be difficult to depose an all time classic like LWTUA. The Smiths won't do it for me - I was never that enthused to be honest.
