November 10, 200717 yr Author Oh good, it is fake :P Avril Lavigne's Online War Against Perez Hilton: Fact Or (Probably) Fiction? 'I wouldn't put this past Avril,' Hilton says of PerezLavigne.com, but Lavigne's reps say she didn't even know about the site. By James Montgomery In late September, with very little fanfare, an Avril Lavigne Web site was launched that struck back against the singer's longtime detractor, blogger Perez Hilton. The site, PerezLavigne.com, says its aim is to collect enough signatures to "make Perez disappear from the Net with his stupid Web site." "Maybe you have already heard that Perez Hilton wrote bad things about me on his online blog," the site reads. "I mean, he thinks in his own little world that he is the best, and he makes everybody look silly on his blog. But in reality, he is more silly! His insults have really hurt me, so please help me to kick Perez in the a-- with this Web site now!" This butt-kicking is supposed to occur when the site obtains 1 million anti-Hilton signatures — although how that would bring about Hilton's downfall is never explained. The site claims that celebrities like Christian Bale, Nicole Kidman and Lavigne's husband, Sum 41 frontman Deryck Whibley, have already signed up to support the cause. It all seems a bit odd, though aside from the rather bizarre premise, the site looks legit: There's a video from Lavigne welcoming fans and thanking them for their patience while "we've been getting this thing running," and it's registered to an "Avril Lavigne" in the singer's hometown of Napanee, Ontario. The only problem? Despite the claims on the site, it turns out Avril wasn't involved in its creation. In fact, she apparently wasn't even aware of its existence until MTV News reached out to her for comment. "This has nothing to do with Avril," Lou Robinson, a spokesperson for Lavigne's label, RCA, told MTV News in an e-mail. "She just found out about it." So, if Avril didn't create the site, who did? Well, a WhoIs search for the site turned up a street address and a phone number in Napanee. Unfortunately, that number didn't connect us to Lavigne, but rather, a very shocked receptionist at the Town Hall of Greater Napanee. After being transferred around a bit, we found ourselves on the phone with the Napanee town clerk, who handles all domains registered to the town. And, not surprisingly, it seems they didn't have anything to do with the site, either. "No one here registered that domain name," Rebecca Murphy said. "I haven't even heard of the site at all, and if I haven't, it hasn't been registered through us." Attempts to contact the Webmaster of the site (who's identified in his/her e-mail address as "Avril") were unsuccessful, although we did hear back from someone named "Evan Taubenfeld," which just so happens to be the name of Lavigne's former guitarist. In an e-mail, "Taubenfeld" — who claimed to do "support" for the site — insisted that PerezLavigne was, in fact, "a real and personal site of Avril, without any relation to her management." Lavigne's reps denied this claim, and told MTV News that steps are being taken to shut down the site. And as for Hilton, well, he didn't seem to care whether or not Avril was behind the site. Rather, he used it as another opportunity to launch an attack on the singer, whom he's referred to in the past as "un-hot" and a "hack." "I wouldn't put this past Avril, but I'd hope she has better things to do with her time than start this Web site," Hilton wrote to MTV News. "Shouldn't she be spitting on paparazzi or threatening former songwriting partners?" [This story was originally published at 2:05 pm E.T. on 11.08.2007]
