Acid House all over the chart in 88, 5 singles in the 30, and a further 2 in the top 50, CAN YOU PARTY, sounding like PUMP UP THE JAM, and THE PARTY by KRAZE sounding like the pair put together...with cries of AC-IEED and a riff on the JOLLY ROGER hit of ACID MAN ACID MAN ACID MAN repeated over and over again!! But it didn`t stop D MOB from getting to the top with WE CALL IT ACIEED!! WHITNEY did the 88 Olymic theme down to 12, BRYAN FERRY`s re-mixed version of LETS STICK TOGETHER sounded exactly the same as the 76 version, and ENYA slipped out of CLANNAD for a solo number one. I remember that KIM WILDE`s NEVER TRUST A STRANGER was heard a lot at the time in the Cafe in Coronation Street, played by Rita`s foster daughter (Jenny Bradley).

3 weeks for LEONA, easily done for her. Without downloads ELVIS would again have a top 10 entry. Outside the 30, are FERGIE, CELINE DION at 32, CHRIS BROWN, NICKELBACK and WET WET WET are in a row at 34, 35, and 36, the WOMBATS and JAMES BLUNT hold on to the 40 by a whisker. While RIHANNA and SHUT UP AND DRIVE is just outside the 40 (take away downloads, it would still be in the top 30)! Lurking at the bottom of the 50, are BOYS II MEN, DAVID GRAY and PAUL MCCARTNEY.

I feel I want to argue about whats rock and whats not. Are David Gray, Paul Mccartney AND Scouting For Girls rock? Surely not?

Its whats called Contempory...in the early 80s, SOUNDS (a music paper, similar to NME) featured the charts in the same way also from MRIB. SOUNDS itself broke away from the usual charts until April 84, when it began to print the pop charts from MRIB itself. It should be noted though that the actual albums and singles charts, in SOUNDS did not match with independant radio`s NETWORK CHART because there wasn`t any airplay data used in the SOUNDS chart.
