Sporty spite ruins reunion Polly Hudson 08/11/2007 I'll tell you what I want, what I really, really want: Mel C to shut up. She's totally ruining the most important event the world has ever seen - the Spice Girls reunion - with her sour grapes attitude. Mel's admitted she's only there for the money, but even if she hadn't, it'd be totally obvious from her actions. The self-dubbed Reluctant Spice stropped her way through the Headlines video, wearing a long-sleeved, high-necked, calf-length dress. Let's just say it makes a certain sulky statement when intercut with shots of Posh in a bondage bikini/thigh-high boots combo and Ginger desperately gyrating in her bra. Even Baby(fat) proudly displayed her wangers for the cause, and she only gave birth 10 minutes before the shoot. Now Mel's threatened to quit the tour if the behind-the-scenes action gets out of hand. "If it becomes a diva drama, I'm out of the circus," she sniffed. Firstly, go then. Only three people would notice, and they'd all have the surname Chisholm. Secondly, of course there'll be diva drama! We wouldn't want it any other way. What would you rather read - the depressing truth about a world where 12-year-olds shoot each other for no reason, or ridiculous stories about Geri and Victoria fighting over outfits as they battle to be the thinnest Spice? (BTW, every other time Geri's been as skinny as she is in this video, she's later admitted to a bulimic episode. Anyone worried now? Just me then.) Mel's bleated on about how doing the reunion has meant she can't promote her solo album which, let's face it, needs some promoting seeing as she's had to release it herself and no one gives a flying word-you-can't-write-in-a-family-newspaper. She reckons she's a credible artist because her music has guitars in it and isn't pop (ie, is boring.) The fact is, Mel is getting paid squillions for the reunion. She doesn't have to go down a mine or up a chimney, all she has to do is perform 14 concerts for rapturous fans who will lap up every second. Could the fifth most popular Spice Girl not acknowledge that this is many people's dream and act with a bit of grace and humility? Because her current attitude is like ending a piece on the Spice Girls without using one of their song titles. The friends reunited are about to embark on a world tour but all is not well behind the scenes amid tales of backbiting and tantrums. Their bank balances are bigger than when they started. Their boobs too. But nothing has grown like their egos. At a shoot for their latest video, Posh reportedly had a flunkie follow her with champagne and fruit until David got tired and went home. Meant to whip up frenzy ahead of their world tour, download sales of Headlines (Friendship Never Ends), have been hugely disappointing. To make thing worse, the track - which is in the shops on Monday - is hardly getting ANY airplay. Humiliatingly, it has been relegated to the C-list on Radio 1, which means it gets barely one play a day. Advertisement George Ergatoudis, the station's Head Of Music, explains: "The opinion of the Radio 1 playlist team is that the song isn't strong enough. "Clearly there's a huge number of Spice Girls fans out there - look at the tickets they have sold. But Headlines is very disappointing. "The song simply isn't strong enough.. it would have been a B-side in their heyday." Figures released at the beginning of the week showed that Headlines barely shifted 300 copies when it was first available last weekend. It limped into the charts at No.124. Since then it has struggled to a lowly 20 after selling 4,907 copies, and sources in the Spice Girls camp are privately fuming at how badly it's doing. One tells us: "They wanted it to be a surefire No.1 on downloads alone but it has failed to connect with the public." We're not surprised. The Spice Girls made their name with catchy pop and dreamy ballads - but Headlines is one of the weakest things they've ever done. And we're not alone in thinking it. DJ Chris Moyles slagged it off on his Radio 1 Breakfast Show yesterday, while a spokeswoman for London's Capital Radio told us: "The Spice Girls aren't playlisted here." Ouch! The Girls' 19 Management are also dismayed with Headlines' poor impact on the download market. One source admits: "Everyone's putting on a brave face. But the focus is very much on the tour - they can always fall back on the success of that instead." Let's hope so... Some much c**p they print and they are fabricating so much stuff! I mean the CD single for Headlines is not een out yet. Charrting in the twenties on downloads only is good, especially with little promo for the single so far!!!! And as for the Melanie C stuff that is just nonsense - yeah she probably doing it for the money but from what I can see she's enjoying it! November 10, 200717 yr Author They seem to ignore the fact that they are embarking on a sell out world tour including 17 sell out nights in London! The album will probably not go to number 1 cuz of Leona, but I'm certain the single will when it's physically released!
