Posted November 12, 200717 yr DEVON soul singer Joss Stone will be switching on Barnstaple's Christmas lights on November 18. She accepted the invitation to illuminate Barnstaple after town centre bosses chose North Devon-based Amigos as their beneficiary for the fundraising switch on. Amigos is a charity that supports Ugandan orphans and Joss was touched by the compassion of its volunteers when she accompanied them to the Ugandan capital Kampala last April. Joss, from Ashill, near Tiverton, said: "I'm going to have my family here. My mum, my brothers, and my stepfather Jonathan will probably come along. It's going to be fun. "We're going to turn on the lights and then we're going to have a party. Just like you should do at Christmas." Phil Pugsley, coordinator of Amigos said: "We're absolutely thrilled that again she's shown her support. "She came to Africa with us and now she's prepared to come to Barnstaple and turn the lights on, fantastic. "I think what a great opportunity it is again to show her caring side and the very fact that she likes being hands on." The switch-on at 5pm concludes an afternoon of entertainment beginning with the opening of the redeveloped Barnstaple Square at 1.45pm.
