In the December issue of Blender, the magazine's editors have compiled what they see as the "The 100 Greatest Indie-Rock Albums Ever," opening with this little graph:

Mumbled lyrics, couldn’t-care-less strumming, white dudes in sweaters—what’s not to love about indie rock? Born 25-odd years ago in suburban garages and spread via college radio, it has made distortion into something hummable, boredom into something thrilling and aimlessness into a raison d'être—and these days, thanks to blogs and the fine people at Grey’s Anatomy, it’s more popular than ever.

Grey's Anatomy and blogs? Cute. Let's take a look at 100-50 here and then round it up post-jump. There are a lot of classic albums on this thing ... and a lot that aren't.

Nice post, thanks! For the record, Blender can't be like Q or NME because they didn't put Radiohead or The Libertines at number one.
The Smiths debut the only Smiths appearance? Nonsense list if you ask me... the debut Smiths album was their weakest by miles - by their own admission, too.

!?!?!?

so dude you dont know blender mag then. for the record its an offshoot of felix dennis's us maxim magazine.

so obv you gotta realize that theres gonna be a bit of variation to what is indie and alt rock over there than here (if youve seen any really really really old american movies and seen the "scary" alternative youth culture movement that was "heavy" metal   in pre-nirvana big hair days ) tho yeah its a good list tho slightly different to a uk list

if it was paste magazine nick drake would be at number one, and if it was relix, the greatful dead or phish, think rolling stone would put an al gore mixtape at number one (those cassette thingys are like so recyclable  )

btw no other magazine can be as awful as q mag, there list would be full of the usual boring dadrock that they would still think is cool and those obv records that they would alway put. i guess even top gear mag would have a better list, only because they would have to have the aphex twin in their list
