Posted November 17, 200717 yr So today is the day that could see England, Scotland and Northen Ireland crash out of the qualifying for Euro 2008. If results go against England although they wouldn't be out of contention for a place in the finals, Russia would be ahead by 1 point and play there last game against Andora, who they realisticly arent going to lose or draw against. Scotland play Italy (5pm kick off) knowing a win will see them through, a loss means there out and a draw would mean they need France to lose to the Ukraine, or Italy to have an unlikely lose to the Faroe Islands. Northen Ireland need to beet Denmark and win in Sapin on wednesday to have any hope of qualifying. The Irish also need to hope the spanish lose to Sweden tonight to keep their hopes alive. Wales and the Republic of Ireland have nothing to play for, and are playing each other at Cardif's Mellinium Stadium, the Welsh currently lead 1-0. Two games could help England today. FYR Macidonia V Croatia, if the Macidonia's beat Croatia then that will give England a big advantage going into Wednesday against the table toping Croatians. and the other game is Israel V Russia, if Israel can avoid defeat against Russia, then Englands fate will be back in there hands, and it would leave them knowing a win over Croatia would see them in next summers finals. 3 of the home nations can qualify as it currently stands, who if any of them will reach the finals?
November 17, 200717 yr I hope Scotland go through. :D England... well tbh it would be a good kick up the backside if we crash out. If we scrape through (which we most probably will), then we will see the same lacklustre performances in Euro 2008. Should we go out however, there will have to be a total re-think and we might just see a few inspired performances. :arrr: No pain no gain and all that.
November 17, 200717 yr I hope Israel win tonight, or else we are in the $hit And with Owen out for Wednesday's game, our hopes could be a disaster
November 17, 200717 yr How did Mcfadden miss that??? FFS (ex-Westlife pie-eater) Brian McFadden would have put that away. Scotland have been by far and away the better side tonight.
November 17, 200717 yr Scotland robbed. As certain a foul as you could possibly wish given the wrong way. Italy score from the free-kick. Who say's football is not corrupt to the core, especially when Italian football is involved? Final Score: Scotland 1-2 Italy Italy through; Scotland out. Scotland played magnificently, but were robbed.
November 17, 200717 yr Author Grr Italy cheated in the world cup 1/4 final against Australia, and did the same here against Scotland. Looks like the sporting powers above want England in the finals next summer, with Israle winning a draw at home to Croatia will be enough to see them through.
November 17, 200717 yr  They weren't robbed!! Italy had a perfectly good goal ruled out wrongly for offside, should have been 2-0. Scotland's goal was offside. Panucci's goal shouln't of happened but it evened itself out. Israel are winning, expect McClaren to keep his job if England qualify <_<
November 17, 200717 yr Author And expect England to be bigged up in the media if they qualify in the build up to euro 2008 only for calls of rubbish to be heard when they crash out in the group stage.
November 17, 200717 yr If he stays and we qualify we will go out in the group. Whoever we get. It would just be pointless to keep him as he is not going to win us the tounroment if we qualify. I don't think anyone will expect England to win it, not even the media.
November 17, 200717 yr Author Der Der Derrrrr Israle 1-1 Russia :o As it stands England now need to beat croatia.
November 17, 200717 yr Der Der Derrrrr Israle 1-1 Russia :o As it stands England now need to beat croatia. I'm channel hopping between this & X-Factor. This reminds me of a boxing match where both sides have run out of steam. But Russia are clearly the classier side and therefore are more likely to score again. :(
November 17, 200717 yr Final Score: Israel 2-1 Russia England only need a home draw against Croatia. :w00t: :w00t: :cheer: :yahoo:
November 17, 200717 yr I feel bad for Scotland, because Scotland have been the best home nations team this qualifying campaign, but that's the way the cookie crumbles I guess. Somethings go for you, others go against. At least England's future is in their own hand now which is the main thing. The players should hopefully be fired up for the game against Croatia and then hopefully we'll qualify. England will do poor in the Euros and then there'll be an outcry from the British media no doubt and then McLaren will be sacked.
