True love ... Delta Goodrem and Brian McFadden have spoken out about their relationship in the magazine (inset). Pictures: Madison

DELTA Goodrem and Brian McFadden have opened up about their hopes and dreams for the future, with the singer admitting their relationship was hard in the early days.

In a magazine interview, they also suggested they could one day make a home in Australia.

"It hasn't been easy, but I wouldn't change a thing now," Goodrem said, adding she had never been happier. "It has taken me three years to be able to get to this point and I think if all of that mess didn't happen, I wouldn't be where I am right now."

Goodrem was initially accused of breaking up McFadden's marriage to former Atomic Kitten Kerry Katona and was hurt by the public criticism levelled at her.

Having put those hard early months behind them, the two are now firmly focused on the future.

"We have lots of goals together," Goodrem told Madison magazine.

"We want to write for other people and want to start our own production company. We have dreams together, we have each now learnt who the other is and we respect each other creatively."

Goodrem admits the battle to earn win over McFadden's two children from his relationship with Katona was extremely hard.

"I love the kids, but admit it was very hard when it started," she said. "I would never have known this would be another aspect of my life but it is."

Goodrem says she is not their mum and would never try to be, although McFadden urges her not to be hard on herself.

"They love Brian so much, they're completely Daddy's girls and I think they now love me, too," she said.

As to where their future home will be, the couple answer at the same time, without hesitation - wherever each other is.

Luckily, McFadden is a big fan of his partner's homeland.

"Australia to me is just Ireland with the sun above it," he said.

The magazine hits newsstands today.
