Posted November 19, 200717 yr Article from The Sun today: Leona Lewis is in high spirits LEONA LEWIS has left the ARCTIC MONKEYS in the cold and claimed the fastest-selling UK debut album of all time. Spirit sold an incredible 375,872 copies in a week to storm into the No1 spot in yesterday’s chart. That’s around 12,000 more than the Sheffield lads shifted of their debut Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not in January last year. Leona also beat the SPICE GIRLS – whose Greatest Hits album went in at No2 – by an incredible 300,000 copies. The X Factor winner sold around 200 albums every minute. Her single Bleeding Love held the No1 spot for the fourth week and is the best-selling single of the year. It’s all great news for Leona and record sales in general. The industry has been through challenging times in recent years but there have been lots of positive signs of late. Leona’s mentor SIMON COWELL said yesterday: “This is Leona’s day. I am absolutely thrilled for her.” US music mogul CLIVE DAVIS, who will help mastermind her launch in the States, added: “It’s an absolute thrill to see the single explode to No1 and now the album entering at No1 with all-time sales numbers is beyond fantastic. “We’re now preparing for her US debut, taking nothing for granted but knowing Leona’s prodigious talent will win out.” Bleeding Love is released in the States on January 14. The album follows on March 18. Edited November 19, 200717 yr by Becky
November 19, 200717 yr Great to have dates for the US, still dont understand why so far apart though.
November 19, 200717 yr Great to have dates for the US, still dont understand why so far apart though. To allow time for radio to pick up the single and play it a lot. :)
November 19, 200717 yr January sounds a good time, although I dont think she'll start promoting till March.

November 19, 200717 yr Why do you say that, she would need to promote the single which is released 14th of jan. It's different in the US, songs don't peak straight away, they hang around and get airplay. So just because she's releasing BL on January 14th, it might not chart and peak until much later. She'll probably do promo in between the single and album dates.
November 19, 200717 yr The single is on physical release in January, it will be released to radio in december.
November 22, 200717 yr Bleeding love shouldn't be the first single in america!!!! such a bad choice! Hope it does fantastically, but something liek take a bow should be released there first.. i wonder if she will get any success at all in america.. hopefully she will! Get her on opera!
November 22, 200717 yr This single will be HUUUUUUUUUGE. She needs to release Take A Bow as the follow up though.

It's has huge success here and is starting to chart all over Europe too.
November 22, 200717 yr Erm why? It's has huge success here and is starting to chart all over Europe too. Bleeding love has done so well in the Uk due to it being on the back of the X Factor, it's a great song, don't get me wrong.. but if it wasn't for the the x factor, it prob wouldn't have gone to number one here... i hope it is successful in the USA.. like people said, Perezhilton is following it and simon and clive won't let it flop, but i just don't think that the song is good enough for an american audience.. take a bow is imo.... bleeding love 2nd or possibly whatever it takes and then best you never had or better in time... i would like to see homeless as a single aswel, but the intro sounds too much like xtina "Hurt" for a release in America.
November 22, 200717 yr OOOH! If so, then she should sing on AI. That would be HUGE promotion. I really hope she does well here.

If she had released a bad song, very few would have bought it even regardless of her being on X-Factor because of the large delay in release. Radios wouldn't have picked it up and people wouldn't have changed their opinions of her from disliking inititally to liking her. Sure the XF promotion helped a bit but it can only do so much, 4 weeks at #1 certainly suggests to me that is more to do with Leona and the song itself. Oh and incase you didn't know, it's starting to be played on radios all around Europe and is charting in places such as Poland, Cyprus and Slovenia where they won't know about X-Factor or Leona, but they'll know a great song. :D Edited November 23, 200717 yr by Ethereal
November 23, 200717 yr Yeah I disagree Jack, 'Bleeding Love' went to #1 because it's a great song. Shayne Ward's follow-up didn't get to #1 or sell anywhere near as many copies, and look how huge he was back then (and arguably, still is).

Leona's album has already sold in two weeks more than Shayne's debut album did altogether, and he rush-released his off the back of XF as well.
November 23, 200717 yr i think Leona is in a class of her own when it comes to XFactor finalists and their releases

I disagree, i think bleeding love is the best first single to go with, its been a smash here and i think its a good indicator of how it will be taken to over there. It doesnt sound like anything else in either UK or US charts which makes it stand out and showcases her vocals IMO better than 'take a bow', 'take a bow' is a good second single but as first single unlike bleeding love it does sound like other things in the charts.
