May 24, 200619 yr Haven't a clue but I seem to have No surprises, Palo Alto and How I Made My Millions in my collection which I apparently bought in 1997. You can have that with my blessing. I've taken the shrink wrap off so I guess it's not brand new. Just listened to it. Absolute drivel. Whiney drawn out vocals competing with the backing music. It works OK in No Surprises but the other two are dire - more drawn out whiney vocals sung against a loud piano accompaniment which just doesn't seem to fit, like listening to two auditions going on in the room at the same time. The other one is so depressing beyond belief. I couldn't finish listening to it. I found it impossible to make out most of the lyrics. I don't think any of these would rate in my top thousand tracks of the decade. Edited May 24, 200619 yr by Baytree

Yeah, well, I wouldn't expect a Darius fan to understand the subtleties of Radiohead anyway.... -_- Off you pop back to your spoon-fed, manufactured drivel.....
May 24, 200619 yr Russt is correct, it should go on the overall quality of the song-writing, and frankly "Colour Blind" makes Ronan Keating's last effort look like Radiohead..... must be the new folk direction then
May 24, 200619 yr So what are the supposed subtleties of those three tracks? You obviously didn't listen to them in the right frame of mind, you just went and "listened" out of some petty, half-arsed attempt to try and start some sort of argument just because I blithely mentioned Radiohead in a previous post; I could've easily picked Napalm Death or the Bonzo Dog Doodah band out of the air as well and you'd still probably try and make an argument out of it...... Go and actually listen to the tracks without having some sort of pathetic, petty point-scoring agenda in mind....... Such touchy little queens you Darius fans aren't you......
May 24, 200619 yr If Darius gets more points than other songs than he deserves to be higher than those songs. In this system, that's what's fair. This is a contest based on points. I don't mind 'Colourblind' - and I'd rather listen to it than 'The Drugs Don't Work' - but there are maybe 30 songs on that list I prefer to 'Colourblind' But I'm just not sure it's one of the most popular songs of the decade on this forum. It will only feature on the Darius fans chart where it will get 20 points. My only question - and I'm not trying to argue with you - is this. Did you - or any of the other Darius fans - already decide to give that song 20 points before you looked at the shortlist?
May 24, 200619 yr Did you - or any of the other Darius fans - already decide to give that song 20 points before you looked at the shortlist? Exactly. Well put mate. That's pretty much the question Russt wanted answered. I just happened to agree with him, it seems a little too coincidental.....
May 24, 200619 yr Exactly. Well put mate. That's pretty much the question Russt wanted answered. I just happened to agree with him, it seems a little too coincidental..... Aye - it's probably true.... -_-
May 24, 200619 yr In my case, yes but then I'd also decided which other ones meant something to me and was going to give them 19, 18,17 and 16. When I looked at the list I changed my 17 and dropped the 16 to 14 because there were other songs that had been special ones that I'd forgotten, but I didn't change Colourblind because it was the most special of them all to me. I waited eighteen months for its release through hopeful and very discouraging times. It had an immediate impact on me because its release date in July 2002 also corresponded with a particularly great summer in my personal life. I've played it thousands of times and still enjoy the video and the song itself every time I see/hear it. I was asked to vote for my songs of the decade. I chose the songs which had helped me get through the last decade of my life not just those songs that sold loads, were critically acclaimed or ones that I thought I might get kudos for choosing. I have sound reasons for all of my selections. Tough if they don't suit some people. Edited May 24, 200619 yr by Baytree
May 24, 200619 yr Well Im a Darius fan because I like his songs so really its pretty obvious that his song will be my favourite and yes I did study the list before I voted and there was nothing else on there I prefered more than colourblind. We all have different tastes and I cannot see what the problem is that we have voted for our favourite.

We all have different tastes and I cannot see what the problem is that we have voted for our favourite. Thank you both for these thoughtful responses. This really does end the argument for me. If everyone had the same tastes, conversation would be very limited on these forums. I'm a massive Mariah fan but I didn't put any of her songs at #1 in their rounds because there were 49 other songs there. They all made my top ten but there were always bound to be other songs I liked more that year. For me, it seemed a bit suspect that all the fans from one optional forum thought his single was the best song of the decade. As you're all fans of the artist, and 'Colourblind' is his biggest hit it sort of makes sense you'd put it at #1. (Edit - my grammar is shot-to-$h!te) Edited May 24, 200619 yr by Tim
May 24, 200619 yr Even Colourblind was second choice. My song of the decade isn't on the list. Edited May 24, 200619 yr by Baytree
May 24, 200619 yr Even Colourblind was second choice. My song of the decade isn't on the list. Nor mine. 'The Boy Is Mine' - I can't remember if it was on the shortlist. If it was, it did not do very well. What is yours? Edited May 24, 200619 yr by Tim

My only question - and I'm not trying to argue with you - is this. Did you - or any of the other Darius fans - already decide to give that song 20 points before you looked at the shortlist? If you look at the selections, Tim, you will see that not all the people from the Darius Forum have given him 20 points and there are also a few other people from the Board who have voted for Colourblind. I am one of the guilty people who would automatically put Darius at the top of any popularity poll, mainly because after seeing him on Pop Idol, I regained an interest in pop music. Before that, I had been so involved in bringing up my family and running a business, I didn't take much notice of any music! There are several other artists I enjoy, (e.g Christina Aguilera, Daniel Bedingfield, Darren Hayes, Simply Red), but not to the extent that I would support Darius!! :D There are lots of good songs in the Record of the Decade list and I voted for them in the order of the enjoyment they gave me (there were also a few I couldn't remember!!) :D Julie
May 25, 200619 yr good point made there, there are songs not on the list that I happen to like more than a lot on the list! I dont happen to like manufactured pop, I don't like covers, so a lot of songs I like probably dont even do that well in the charts! Colourblind probably isnt my favourite darius song, that would be one that the general public hasnt even heard - yet very much top of my list.
