A new channel based on music magazine NME will launch on Sky this Thursday (Nov 23).

'NMETV', which bills itself as "the essential channel for real alternative music enthusiasts", will feature music videos, chart roundups, artist profiles, news updates and interviews.

The channel is a joint venture between IPC Ignite and CSC Media Group, which operates a small portfolio of music and movie stations including The Vault, Bliss and True Movies. IPC previously launched a channel based on Nuts magazine in partnership with TBS.

"Launching a linear television channel is a major new development for the UK's leading alternative music brand," said Paul Cheal, the magazine's publishing director. "NMETV will add an important new strand of content to our existing platforms."

The station will be available on Sky channel 377.

Erm... Well i'm kinda excited tbf. NME (sadly) do the best time of music imo (Indie/Altenative/Rock etc...) so I will be watching for that reason. ^_^ :D

Will anybody else be watching this?

in fact its amazing how long it has taken timewarner to do this, you know playing catch up with emap's channels (which are coming under the influence of channel 4)

So this channel will be like MTV2 2.

I'd imagine so but there will be a lot less on old bands and more Interviews etc..

what he said

Yeah it just seems like it'll be like MTV2.

I doubt i'll watch it tbh, i'll just maybe add it to music channels I flick through when i'm bored.

It's on channel 377, not a good sign as once you get past about 365 you get to the section where all the utter $h!t music channels get bunged onto the end.
i go 345, 368, 364, 353, 354 and i still cant seem to find anything i like much :|

I'm the same altought i ditched Q after they started that FHM slot and i don't watch Rockworld as i never have a clue who the bands are plus they always show this wierd group of women who think they are robots.

Kerrang and Scuzz are the only two channels i bother with but MTV 2 is alright when it shows more heavier songs.

yeah what is up with that robot women band

i dont atchully that often find much good on rockworld but deathdiscotv is good and they ahve a thing with the young knives, scuzz and kerrang get a bit to emo for me sometimes, espically kerrang

Q have stopped the FHM rubbish now :) that was really $h!t

I reckon it adds fuel to the 'NME magazine about to close' stories. Smash Hits released their TV station shortly before the magazine folded and it's still going strong.

i have digital but dont have the music package so i only get pathetic music channels like scuzz and fizz

so NMEtv is very much a welcome addition

it may be a while before they branch out and start playing more obscure bands I hope it develops a request show slot aswell
