Anyone here likes the video of "A&E"?

I could have kissed you as I've been looking everywhere for it, but the above video does not work no more

I love this so much

Oh wow. :o

I saw/heard this today. I'm not a fan of their past stuff, but this is amazing, and so is the video.

|I'm suprised i really love this, the album is ok will probably grow on me.
I think 'Fly Me Away' was by far the worst track from the last album, I simply cannot bear to listen to that piece of trash.

I know this is a majorly delayed reaction of a reply, but I can't believe you said that! :o 'Trash'?! :( It's absolutely amazing!

Same here!

It's mistery to me how such brilliant song is called "trash"...

"Fly Me Away" is one of the best songs ever done by Goldfrapp

I think it's trash, too, and I love Goldfrapp - they blotted their perfect copybook with 2 awful, awful singles - Number One and Fly Me Away... both of which are songs way, way beneath Goldfrapp. And the 2 songs that alienated their pretty loyal fanbase, too... I remember a mass exodus of their site's messageboard around this time when it became littered with kids saying how wonderful these songs were - and how they'd never ever heard anything by them prior to this (they were presumably living in Outer Mongolia).... or really cared what went before.

The live Goldfrapp shows around Supernature were testament to how much they'd upset their faithful - the crowd was made up of a much younger and less appreciative audience, the ones who'd followed from day one (me included) had seemed to desert them... although I did make it to one date. The new audience all spoke through the Felt Mountain and some of the Black Cherry songs - but stayed silent and transfixed for the commercial Supernature hits. Again, this was the story throughout the whole tour and the followers who were left on their messageboard were rightfully furious that these new 'fans' had ruined the Supernature gigs by chattering through half the songs.

And to say it's one of their best ever songs? Crikey - you need to check out Felt Mountain and the new opus..... both of which sound like they're done by a different band to the one who made Fly Me Away - thankfully ;)

That seems like a little tragedy...

Come on, just some songs from Supernature almost ruined the tour?

Maybe it's "the third album curse" when usually bands changed their style (see "beautifulgarbage" by Garbage or "Minutes After Midnight" by Linkin Park) and lost some of their loyal fan base. Some will like the new direction some will hate it.

Yesterday I read the comments from the video of A&E (posted by Mute Records) and I can say I'm dissapointed.

Almost all users asked where's the dance-style of Supernature/Black Cherry

Their first album Felt Mountain and their third "Supernature" are really different each other (you can say they are made by different bands). I know what I'm talking about since I listened to all Goldfrapp songs.

I never said "Supernature" was better than anything else they're done. It's obviously a more commercial "Black Cherry". But those songs are really catchy and you can listen to them anytime (more style than substance but anyway better than most of dance songs from 2005). In fact they need to sell records and I don't see "Felt Mountain" as a best seller. I don't see what's the problem to like them since I heard about Goldfrapp through these songs. ;)

My question is: what don't you like from these songs? Vocals, lyrics, instrumentation?

PS my fave Goldfrapp song is "Utopia"

The thing that ruined the last tour was that the new fans simply weren't interested or aware of any Goldfrapp material pre-Ooh La La... and some pre-Strict Machine... hence all the melancholic, slow numbers the band played from the debut album were ignored by the majority of the crowd - and ruined by these people simply chatting throughout them - totally ruining the ambience of the songs. I thought this may have been something specific to Cardiff, where I saw them... however, when I visited their official messageboard, I read that this was the case all over the country - and the older fans were severely pissed off about it - rightly so, too. Apparently, even Alison Goldfrapp herself had a go at the audience on several occasions throughout the Supernature tour for this very reason - can you imagine how off-putting that must be? Trying to get into the mood and mindset to sing a really heart-wrenching song.... but faced with a gaggle of pop tarts giggling to each other, chatting above you, and, as I witnessed in Cardiff - speaking on their mobile phones?! I kid you not....

It wasn't the Supernature songs that ruined the gigs - Ooh La La and Ride a White Horse both sounded excellent live - it was the noisy crowd who were oblivious to this great bands' earlier work that spoiled the night.

And Fly Me Away and Number One are just pop fluff compared to the mesmerising gorgeousness of the earlier work - lyrically they're, at best, dumb... musically, they're bland and uninspiring. It's magical to see they've taken time off and rejuvenated their sound by kind of going back to basics - but dumping the Austrian-style dreamy fairytale vibe of Felt Mountain for an English folky-hippy vibe.

I expect hippy folk albums from all and sundry (ie Kylie et al) over the next 2 years ;) .

I quite understand what you said above

Hard to imagine teens enjoying the greatness of Goldfrapp's first singles...

"Seventh Tree" is a great return to roots. I hope it will be a success (that deluxe edition -- 4 art cards, A large foldout poster, A lyric book (including reproductions of Alison's handwritten lyrics), all coming packaged in a mottled finished box -- looks interesting).

Someone from Goldfrapp forum said it will be their final album (of course just a rumour). Have you ever heard about this?

To me, regardless of fans lost or gained, Fly Me Away is utterly fabulous. I'm sure some fans did get uspet but to stay relevant it's necessary to change musical direction every now and then, and so the more electronic side of pop was just what the band wanted to do I'd imagine. It's not exactly as if the band sold out recording Supernature; they just got lucky with success which is probably why a lot of fans got arsey; they didn't like that the newer fans came to the concerts and only knew and liked the recent material, when of course that was always going to happen and does with every artist. Number 1 is my other favourite, haha, so I guess our tastes just differ a lot. Ooh La La, on the other hand, is quite trashy.

well, a friend of mine has been working with Will Gregory on a soundtrack for an old horror movie, engineering the sound for him... but I don't think there's any plans to stop working as Goldfrapp. Although, Alison Goldfrapp is apparently pretty hard work.. in Bristol where they both do quite a bit of work and where most of the Goldfrapp musicians live, they scale stress levels by saying "on a scale of one to Alison" :D

I agree with what Jark says... but I think the more fans Goldfrapp get, the better.... it's just a shame that the new fans don't seem to 'get' that Goldfrapp is a constantly changing experiment, almost..... which I kind of like to a degree (even when the music isn't to my personal taste) - and to appreciate this evolution, you need to investigate all their work. To chatter throughout a band playing is pretty unforgiveable, I think, though, however boring you might find them or the song they're playing.

Even if Alison will continue as solo artist (strange: the band name is her last name) I think she's still relevant.

I'd like to see some collaborations with Massive Attack, Hartnoll's brothers (ex-Orbital), Chemical Brothers or Royksopp (did you know the song "What Else Is There" featuring Karin Dreijer from The Knife? I'd like something like that)

A James Bond theme will be amazing too

That's a lack of respect of so called "fans" ;)

By my side I like the folk-style and dance-style of Goldfrapp at (almost) the same level.

^I totally love What Else Is There! I got the album and found it rubbish but that one song is so amazing.

^

Not better than Melody A.M. but I wouldn't say it's rubbish

"Only This Moment" (feat Kate Havnevik - a singer from Norway) it's great too

I love Royksopp - all their stuff...and some ace remixes, too.

The Knife are brilliant - absolutely love them (Pass This On is gorgeous - great video too for anyone wishing to add it here).... but.... didn't they produce Robyn's album? Bizarre :o It's about time they had a HUUUGE hit of their own I think.

"What else is there" its great... been listening to a Trentmoller remix...it was just a great found for me last year...a must listen!!!!
