there's a lot of buzz around this act - a cross between Dusty Springfield and Amy Winehouse, I reckon... this is a corking single and she's got a stunning voice, I like. A lot

Check Jools Holland tonight, too - Duffy is a guest.

I've had this on a promo for a while - it's written by McAlmont and Butler if I recall.

It sounds NOTHING like Amy Winehouse. Any linking is purely lazy PR.

It's good though :)

oh Richie...of COURSE it's like Winehouse, whether you can hear it or not. The wall-of-sound Spector-ish production, the stax-y feel - ok, it's not Winehouse's sound... but why the hell do you honestly think a timid girl from North Wales whose second language is English would get a contract in these bad record company times? err... because it has touches of Winehouse and she has the potential to be equally successful because of the similarities.

It's actually Bernard Butler's new project..... not that Butler guarantees sales or a contract these days.

This is a damn great record... something the Buzzjack massive will be fawning over over the next 12 months - but, as it's not top 40 (yet)...will, thankfully pass straight over their pretty little heads right now :D

Beautiful track. I don't think this track will do much in the singles chart, but she'll be a big album seller. Top 20 I predict for the album.

When I saw the video to this the other day, I did think there were similarities in the voices of this girl and Wino. I think I prefer this girl's voice however.

It's not bad at all.

I think this single will be a slow-burner...and that the album will be massive, too.

13 months ago I was seemingly the only one raving about the comeback single "Rehab" by Amy Winehouse which spent 8 weeks at #1 on my Personal Chart & was my Song of 2006 (the same as Music journalist/radio DJ Stuart Maconie), even though Radio 1 never playlisted it & most on Buzzjack was non-plussed.

I had a similar feeling with this track when I first heard it just over a week ago, then saw her sing on the Later... with Jools Holland show.

If the rest of her material is similar in quality to this, then I can see her debut album be huge in 2008.

Vocally Duffy reminds me a lot more of early Maria McKee (in her Lone Justice days) than Amy Winehouse:

Lone Justice - Sweet, Sweet Baby (I'm Falling) (1985)

I heard this for the first time on radio today, very good track. :cheer:

not heard this yet either as ive got no sound but its an artist i will look out for. though tbh theres so many artists to look out for that some you dont get round to if they dont hit the chart, tbh havent actually managed to hear the other [britpop] artist called duffy, and he's supposed to sound like nick drake

rehab is alright but take the box is so much better.

I fooking love this, heard it a few weeks back but gosh does it grow <3

Bought the 7" today ( :

not keen on 'warwick avenue', but 'rockferry' was excellant... so was 'mercy' and indeed there are broad hints of carmel in there, plus abit of nina simone.

talented artiste, but talent counts for nowt nowdays..

It's record of the week on my site - talk about a grower.

I've also pinpointed the sound - Nancy Sinatra / Lee Hazlewood.

I think it's an injustice to link it to Amy Winehouse...yes, that'll make it sell, that's what my lazy PR statement was about...but why try to appeal to that disposable floating market? I'd bet 50% of those who have bought Amy's LP over the past 12 months have all of Dido's albums in their collection too.

It is interesting to know who she is although have heard her before and all the analogies to Amy cant be made because they are different artists.

She sounds a good welsh singer lets see if she achieves a good level in the music industry...should be nice for her and Wales.

goodvibes
