Well more social discontent in France. With strikes aplenty already, France is now dealing with fresh street riots after 2 boys were killed, which would seem to be a catalyst to underlying socio-political and socio-economic issues.

You really would think France would learn from the 2005 riots. Clearly Sarkozy's policy of calling these rioters every name under the sun didn't work and probably won't work when he predictably does it again. I can't understand why anyone would vote for such an awful man but hey-ho France's rural conservatism is as strong as ever.

funny how they like fighting eachother but when it comes to real fighting (ww1 ww2) they are pretty lame.

all this because of an accident involving police car and a scooter ridden by 'le chav'?

Well clearly it's something a little more than a scooter accident. That merely acted as the catalyst to unearth the deep social/economic issues faced within these communities (much like in 2005). France as a country is pretty much institutionally racist. It treats immigrants like rubbish (as Nicholas Sarkozy's name calling and general lack of apathy highlights...) but more than that immigrants are housed in appalling, filthy conditions. Access to education and skills gaining is nigh on impossible meaning these individuals who have been ostracised and alienated by the media/government, have very little prospect of ever moving up the social ladder. A lack of work, jobs and poor housing communities and the general 'ghettoisation' of immigrant life leads to these "swells of violence" so to speak when frustrations over spill.

France needs to stop treating these individuals as ardent criminals and aliens and help them instead of throwing away the key to any future for them. Otherwise they have no right to call these people scum <_<

Wow such an interesting point of view JAKE!

I agree about the most of it, and Sarkozy winning the election was such a shame for my country :(

"France" is not an homegenic bunch of people thinking all the same way though ;) And hopefully Sarkozy popularity will keep on dipping.

maybe the reason they dont like foreigners is the fact that theyve been invaded/occupied by a foreign country twice within the last hundered years.... in fact france has a history of being occupied by foreigners for centuaries so im not suprised really that they are so inherantly racist. oh yeah... we were there too! (aquitaine). (but that was their fault for allowing the settled vikings (northmen, = normandy) to invade us in 1066.)

This is why in this country we have "Political Correctness".

In the UK we treat immigrants/foriegners reasonably well, some would say preferrential treatment, we have laws so they aren't so much discriminated against, if at all. Some of the "white british" may moan when they "stealin' all our jobs" etc but we seem to keep the immigrant community inside the UK relatively happy with the Equality laws.

In France, they don't have, as such "Political Correctness", people from other ethnic minorities are more often than not discriminated in more ways than just abuse, that could include housing, employment etc. The disgruntless from all this "abuse" or "discrimination" has been brewing for a while, and as the government seems to becoming more and more anti-immigrant, it doesn't take long before trouble starts.

I think as well the fact that the establishment (in this case Police) were involved in the death of the two boys gave the rioters more of a excuse to riot.

I reckon if you think that much of these riots are being fuelled by immigrants, then you'd be dead wrong... What is far more likely is that these riots are being fuelled by the sheer discontent of the French Algerians and Moroccans (ie, those actually BORN in France)... One young French born Algerian said in a TV interview - "my papers say I am French, but when I go for a job or to the police for them to help me, then I am not French..". This is pretty much how the vast majority of justifiably angry young French Algerians/Moroccans feel... They are basically dumped in horrendous Banlouies, basically the French equivalent of Cabrini Green or Watts, and are totally ignored and despised by the rest of French society...

Sarkozy is an idiot, he more than anything has done so much damage and has fuelled so much of the hatred, he's only a slightly less objectionable turd than Le Pen.... France will never heal with a bullish, ignorant man like Sarkozy in charge....

but xenophobia is inherant in all peoples... it dates back to celtic tribal times throughout europe. we as a race tended to 'herd' together with 'our own' as 'foreigners' would probably take our riches, our lives... fear or distrust of 'strangers' has its roots in thousands of years of self preservation... maybe multiculturalism isnt natural, maybe we as a race needs to be different. im not suggesting inter tribe wars...lol.. but trade with tribes (like the celts did) whilst keeping your own identity. this is why i see nothing wrong with national pride, loving your motherland, the land your ancestors fought for.

how boring would we be as a race if in a thousand odd years everybody was the same... coffee coloured, spoke the same language, live the same lifestyles, were to lose all national identity.

Already happened mate... Decades ago when we (or should I say our Politicians) decided to become the de-facto 51st State of the USA..... <_< I'd rather be part of a United States of Europe than the USA......

That is no excuse whatsoever to treat people who are born in a country like second-class citizens simply because they are of a different colour, and this is exactly what is going on in France, and to a lesser extent with the Black and Asian communities in this country... It's not right mate, you cannot possibly defend it on any such esoteric grounds as you are attempting here.. It leads to resentment, discontent and ultimately a hatred of the nation state and its institutions which manifests itself in the present riots or even ultimately in terrorism...

"you reap what you sow" my friend....
