Posted November 29, 200717 yr Saw Rilo Kiley last sunday in Manchester For all the criticism they've received for their very different and very mainstream friendly 4th album (Under the Blacklight) they certainly delievered a great performance hitting every note with conviction it was the final date of their European tour supporting the album and they ended it with a fantastic performance. Straight away they got the crowd pumping when they opened with 'Close call' Moneymaker, dreamworld(my favourite song from their latest album) and portions for foxes were my highlight moments There was even a bit of comedy when Jenny Lewis forgot the opening lines to give a little love TWICE after a fan complimented Pierre on his resemblance to Johnny Marr, the band took it with a good humour and it just added some laughter to an already fun and enjoyable night and we were treated to a brand new track. halfway through the gig 2 giant balloons filled with gold confetti were released into the crowd and batted around the MA2 venue even Jenny Lewis engaged in the playful games until the balloons hit the ceiling and burst causing the shiny paper to stream down onto a cheering crowd. The main support Grand Ole Party were magnificent aswell, themselves also hailing from California. Setlist: Close Call It's a Hit Breakin 'Up Dreamworld Moneymaker Execution of all Things Ripchord Under The Blacklight Silver Lining I Never Give a Little Love Pictures Of Success Smoke Detector 15 Does He Love You? ___________ I Love L.A Portions For Foxes a good way to end the year for me as i have no other gigs after seeing sohodolls a handful of times along with Arcade Fire in october (supported by the brilliant clinic) and Nine Black Alps and Smashing Pumpkins wont be a bad way to start 2008 either Edited November 29, 200717 yr by British_Pharaoh
November 29, 200717 yr I'd consider seeing them live but I really don't like the "Under the Blacklight" album. I'm not not a music snob who's biased against its mainstream feel. I just find it a really conceited and arrogant album. It's so self-indulgent and meh :( I did like it lots and then now I've gone off it. "Under the Blacklight" is a wonderful track mind ^_^
December 1, 200717 yr I only have their last two albums and there is a huge contast between the two. Yes, UTB is more poppy. Yes, it's more mainstream and yes, it's going away from their roots. But does it really matter? Generally, the album is fabulous (well 7 great tracks and 4 rubbish, better than most albums) and are bands not allowed to take a change of direction? It's much better when acts do something different that stay stuck with the same sound for ages (just look how $h!te the likes of Oasis and Stereophonics are now despite promising starts - it's just same old, same old all the time...)
December 1, 200717 yr I saw them last monday and they were amazing, really amazing. One of the best gigs for me this year. Regarding the album, i really think its a brilliant pop album, it's not trying to be anything else but that. I wish people would get past that. <_<
December 3, 200717 yr just look how $h!te the likes of Oasis and Stereophonics are now despite promising starts - it's just same old, same old all the time... yeah even status quo were different at the beginning  (dakota is a great track tho, everything else omg so dull)
