January 4, 200817 yr I agree - what a really terrible top 5.... and the number one? Never even heard it.
January 4, 200817 yr odd..... i too have never heard of that aerosmith track, although i know all the other nominations.... has the other board got an aerosmith fanbase?/forum?... it kinda screws up there elections if any one site uses an artists fanbase to vote 'en mass'. makes you wonder if the things worth doing if the results are 'fixed'... i mean.... ok i might have missed this track but for others too aswell....
January 4, 200817 yr Author odd..... i too have never heard of that aerosmith track, although i know all the other nominations.... has the other board got an aerosmith fanbase?/forum?... it kinda screws up there elections if any one site uses an artists fanbase to vote 'en mass'. makes you wonder if the things worth doing if the results are 'fixed'... i mean.... ok i might have missed this track but for others too aswell.... Well seeing that it got a total of 10 votes including Mark on Buzzjack giving it the full 5 Pts, more than any other song had on the 1975 missing songs list then it deserved to win. The fact that it is probably a less well known song than all of the songs that finished 9th to 20th in the Record of The Year vote is more a reflection of the decent job I did in picking the main key songs for this year. If anything it proves I was wrong to leave it off the list of 50 songs to vote for (it was one of 5 songs that I chopped when producing that initial 50 songs also including the Supertramp & Bad Company songs that were nominated as missing songs & finished 2nd & 3rd in the missing song vote) because it is a classic rock song. But that is the beauty of the missing song vote concept as I can't be blamed for what gets nominated & wins.
January 5, 200817 yr not knocking your sterling work m8... but it still could be construed as a waste of time IF 'fans' of an artist votes 'en block' . it would only take a handful of fans who never visit either of the retro forums to pervert the result. i believe this has happened here, and on other polls too, as im the oldest here (i think) and have been into music since the beat boom of the early 60's i find it incredible that an unknown (by many) album track wins over established and well known classics... are there really that many rock fans out there? if so why dont the rock tracks always win?.. oh well.... it matters not, we know that from day 1 the winners wont be the best tracks by creative artists <_< .. its abit of fun and its enjoyable too... thanks :)
January 5, 200817 yr I think compettions like this can only work if you only allow one country to vote in one poll. Which is impossible, really. The series of shock results we've had here - the likes of Aerosmith, Bad Company, The Cars, Scorpions, Pat Benatar etc getting ridiculously high placings when they really weren't all that popular here is simple - they were big in America - and it seems there are more American voters bothering to add their voice to these polls than Brits.... on the other site, anyway... It's a real shame because these contests really are fun and TiP puts a helluva lot of work into them - but they're kind of getting hijacked and the results always seem totally misrepresentative.

Yeah if you watch TMF/VH1 lists of old one hit wonders from like the 70s, 80s or 90s its all bands like the Fixx and others random dudes that i guess that nobody in the UK will know or care about. well i havent a clue who they are, never been on smooth or the hits  i guess if people were buying records whenever the fixx were out i guess they would have been over looked by those posters as much as phixx was a few years ago by the same posters. probs could allow american and uk votes in ten year time seeing how everything seems to have become holomegized to US culture in like 2 years or so and Q magazine could just as well be a yanky mag.
