January 2, 200817 yr I Am Legend IS very much the novel which defines the whole idea of the Apocalyptic Horror sub-genre... Where do you think that the likes of Romero got his ideas for his "Living Dead" films..? Or indeed where Danny Boyle got the idea for "28 Days Later"...? As I said, much more interesting things can be done with Vampires... They dont have to be such stereotypical, one-dimensional characters, a bit of imagination and ability can breathe life into old standards, as the examples I gave of recent films and TV shows prove (also check out rather excellent new US show "Moonlight", and, heck, Joss Whedon's "Buffy The Vampire Slayer" too busted apart a hell of a lot of vampire stereotypes...).. There was NO such imagination on show in the whole of this film... I dont believe that Matheson himself ever even uttered the "V" word in his novel (of course, it's been years since I read it....) I was saying the FILM wasnt really a horror, i dont know about the novel becuase i havnt read it.
January 3, 200817 yr I really thought it was amazing, one of the best films of 2007 even. Some bits were really sad though. :(
January 4, 200817 yr that dog in the film is simply gorgeous! Shame what happens... The dog's probably the most interesting character in the film....
January 5, 200817 yr The dog's probably the most interesting character in the film.... Agreed. It just took far long to get into any action for me, but everytime the dog came on I was happy lol.
January 6, 200817 yr The dog's probably the most interesting character in the film.... So true. The film just didn't seem to have any narrative. There are other films that don't have much plot like 28 Days Later, but it's the character stories that you're following so it doesn't matter. However, in I Am Legend, the characters were so one dimensional and stereotypical. The girl really pissed me off, the thing about her not knowing who Bob Marley was but knowing Damian Marley was so..GRRRR! That would just never happen!! I thought there was so much potential in the film, the opening news story had me really gripped. I would have loved to have seen how that developed rather than some really tedious flashbacks of Will's family.
January 6, 200817 yr I really enjoyed it, but I wasnt too keen on the ending... it was a big naff LOL
January 6, 200817 yr I D/Led a pretty good DVD screener of this a few days back, and erm, frankly I'm wondering just what the fukk the fuss is all about tbh.... This has got to be one of THE most boring, uninspired pieces of sh"t masquerading as a "Hollywood Blockbuster" ever made.... I'm looking at this thing for over 90 minutes, it ends, and I'm just going, "Is that it...?" This is a totally mind-numbing, completely one-dimensional take on an extremely allegorical, multi-layered, fascinating and hugely complex work of literature... Here's the plot synopsis of the actual BOOK as taken from Wikipedia.... 1/10 for being bloody cheeky. "Resident Evil - Extinction" is a LOT more fun than this c**p folks.... Yeah even tho i skipped all the stuff in the middle...I agree with these points. It was just like a remake of 30 Days Of Night, but with zombiealikes instead of vampires and with all the scenes that looked like theyve come from a Rammstein video replaced with bits knicked from War Of The Worlds (but not the giant metal pen*s thing with the light in the end - tho that might have been more intersting) The girl really pissed me off, the thing about her not knowing who Bob Marley was but knowing Damian Marley was so..GRRRR! That would just never happen!! well maybe if was Jazzy Jeff and the Outhere Brothers the joke wouldnt work as well. yeah Alice Braga character not knowing who Bob Marley is but knowing who Damian Jr Gong is??? From watching BBC Four's Brasil, Brasil show a few weeks ago it said that Bob Marley was also one of the most V important figures in Brasilian music as well (as an artist to have come from abroad) and his influence shaped the sound of Brazilian music as well, esp in the more Black areas. I Am Legend IS very much the novel which defines the whole idea of the Apocalyptic Horror sub-genre... Where do you think that the likes of Romero got his ideas for his "Living Dead" films..? Or indeed where Danny Boyle got the idea for "28 Days Later"...? well my thought was 28 Days Later did the whole abandoned city thing much much better in the opening minutes -some of the FX in I Am Leagend were quite shoddy for the amount they must have spent on it. yeah 28 Days Later much better, same with Open Your Eyes/Vanilla Sky
January 8, 200817 yr -Thanks for outlining the book Grimly Fiendish - I thought the film was just OK - and with your explanation now see why. It's nothing like the book  Omega Man wasn't the first re-telling - this film in the link was on Sky TV the other night: http://www.scifimoviepage.com/lastman.html Edited January 8, 200817 yr by munchkin

It's nothing like the book  Omega Man wasn't the first re-telling - this film in the link was on Sky TV the other night: http://www.scifimoviepage.com/lastman.html Actually, this is probably in story terms, the best adaption of Matheson's work.. Shame that basically they had bugger all money to make the film look a bit better.... I mean, if they'd taken this script (with a few retouches in the dialogue department perhaps) and combined it with the big Hollywood budget of the recent film, then I reckon we'd've had something a damn sight better than what we ended up with....
January 9, 200817 yr i thought this was well better then you all are making out :o i read all your comments before i saw it yesterday so wasn't really expecting that much but i was pleasantly suprised i thought it was really good although the ending could have been better....
January 11, 200817 yr I agree with the comments that the film seemed to borrow heavily from other films - 28 days later, 30 days of night, vanilla sky etc. The ending was cheesy and I felt like the film wanted to force you to squeeze a tear out at the end rather than just let it be. Me and my mate rolled our eyes when that woman said she didn't know who Bob Marley was, everybody knows who Bob Marley is and it reminded me off when Brian from Big Brother said he didn't know who Shakespeare was! Come off it. The thing that niggles me about I am Legend is that I can't decide whether Will Smith over acted or not, I've been thinking about this for days and I can't help but smell the desperation of an Oscar nod coming off the screen when he acts in his more serious roles. I do love Will Smith but something didn't sit well about his performance. What did you all think? Overacting or a powerful performance?
January 12, 200817 yr I thought it was a bit boring, it had me nervous though throughout the film and there where a few parts that made you jump. I thought it was pretty stupid how the Women and her Mute child survived that grenade blast though when they where hiding behind that Wooden door. :s
January 12, 200817 yr This was a really great movie, I think most of the reviews in here are pretty $h!t and whoever thinks '28 days later' is better, should be shot TBF. I want a german shepard now

I want a german shepard now  The only way in which I Am Legend is better than 28 Days Later is the special effects department, which were extremely impressive. But the fact that 28 Days Later manages to create a much better feeling of lonliness in a deserted world without many special effects is even more impressive.
January 13, 200817 yr 28 days is better. I really can't afford the airfare to fly all the way over there to shoot you, I'm sorry. :( Oh well, I just preferred 'I Am Legend' it just was a better film to me.
