December 5, 200717 yr Chartifacts Source: ariacharts.com.au Singles Keeping Natalie Gauci out of the top spot is Timbaland’s Apologize, which leaves Here I Am settling for No.2 this week. Clumsy leaves Fergie stationed at No.3, meanwhile The Way I Are takes a tumble and sets Timbaland down at No.4. As for the rest of the Top 10 they all take a dive from last week’s positions. A special mention goes to I Love It by Sneaky Sound System which is now in its 69th week within the Top 100. This matches the ARIA record of most weeks in the top 100 for a Single which is held by The Living End’s Second Solution / Prisoner Of Society which charted from 1997 through 1999. Although since the inclusion of digital sales late last year, long charting singles are now more common. Sneaky’s long run is still an accomplishment especially considering that they currently have four singles within the top 100 including Pictures which has also been on the chart for a year (52 weeks). HERE I AM - Natalie Gauci No.2 The lovely Melbournian has taken out the crown in this year’s Australian Idol competition. Natalie Gauci is the first wildcard contestant, and the third female to win it. BI (before Idol), Gauci was a session singer in Melbourne and a music teacher. AI (after Idol), Gauci is set to tour Australia and also might be making a special appearance at this year’s Carols By Candlelight. Gauci’s debut album – The Winner’s Journey is out now. SHADOW OF THE DAY - Linkin Park No.21 Hard as nails rock outfit – Linkin Park take it down a few notches with their new release, Shadow Of The Day. This is the Grammy award winning band’s third track to be lifted from their former #1 and double platinum album, Minutes To Midnight. Shadow Of The Day follows What I’ve Done (No.13 May ’07) and Bleed It Out (No.24 Sep. ‘07). Lead singer Chester Bennington was voted in at 46th on Hit Paraders list of "Heavy Metal's All-Time Top 100 Vocalists" and Mike Shinoda, the band’s MC, was placed at No.72. IN PIECES - Shannon Noll No.26 Australian singer-songwriter Shannon Noll, has come a long way since he graced the Australian Idol stage. Noll is the most successful contestant to come out of Idol, having released two No.1 multi-platinum selling albums – That’s What I’m Talking About (Feb. ’04) and Lift (Oct. ’05), three No.1 singles and not to mention a swag of hits including Come On Aussie Come On (No.2 Dec. ’04), Don’t Give Up featuring the beautiful Natalie Bassingthwaighte (No.2 Dec. ’06) and more recently Loud (No.3 Sep. ’07). SUPERSTAR - Lupe Fiasco No.45 25 year old Lupe Fiasco releases his third Top 100 single. Fiasco’s previous singles were Kick Push which peaked at No.64 in October 2006 and Daydreamin’ which peaked at No.40 in February this year. In the span of Fiasco’s short career so far, he has been nominated for three Grammy Awards at this year’s ceremony and a Soul Train Award. Fiasco cites Nas as a major influence on his approach to writing music. THIS IS FOR REAL - Motion City Soundtrack No.48 This pop-punk band from Minnesota, USA consists of Joshua Cain, Jesse Johnson, Justin Pierre, Matthew Taylor and Tony Thaxton. The band formed in 1997 and This Is For Real is their debut to the ARIA Singles Chart. The new single is the first track to be lifted from their debut album here in Australia – Even If It Kills, which peaked at No.52 in September this year. Seventeen years multi-ARIA Award winner Arena is still pumping out the hits. To Sir With Love is a cover of Lulu’s 1967 track and is the first single to be lifted from Arena’s new album, Songs Of Love & Loss, which is a collection of cover songs accompanied by two of Arena’s original songs. TROUBLE IN THE JUNGLE - Bindi Irwin No.85 Daughter of the late and great conservationist Steve Irwin, Bindi Irwin makes her debut to the ARIA Singles Chart. Irwin has been left to fill the big shoes her late father left behind and is doing it with a great response from fans and well wishers.
