July 4, 200619 yr Not to worry, she'll be back behind that McDonalds counter in 6 months.. mark my words !! ;)
July 4, 200619 yr I watched an old Comic Strip Presents on Paramount last night featured her dad who was playing someone who had a brainswap with a thug. She was listed in the cast list at the end as one of the children in it. This edition must be at least 20 years old because it had UB40 in who looked young in it.
July 4, 200619 yr I watched her on TOTP and felt like I was a victim of a very clever con trick. It's all very artful & subtle, from the simple lyrics, little girl vocals, coy glances to one side and the trainers with 50's style dresses that look to become her trademark. A very good bit of manufacturing, the equal to anything that's gone before with 'not what you know, but who you know' playing a major part by the looks of it. The real pity though is, Lily is grabbing all the limelight this week when a real find, someone with real talent is being virtually ignored. What a shame, Paulo Nutini, is likely along with James Morrison, to be two of the best male vocalists to hit the scene in the last couple of years. ;) Totally agree with everything you've posted, she'll have her shortlived success no doubt about it, but I've noticed something quite alarming after watching her perform, she can't actually sing very well at all.
July 4, 200619 yr Lily's first television interview on Channel 4 TV show, "Transmission," aired on 17th June 2006. Contains the word "c**t". [flash=450,350]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nqadrvFiOWg.swf

"the yob"?.... lol.. that was brilliant! a p*** take of 'the fly'
July 4, 200619 yr There was a certain other young lady not so long ago - answering to the name of Amy and hyped up as the next big thing alongside Jamie C and Katie M - who also delighted in slagging off everyone within spitting distance. It's not a good idea to diss others in the music business - you could be putting the kybosh on potential sales. Ummm - Haven't seen her around just lately ^_^ Edited July 4, 200619 yr by munchkin
July 4, 200619 yr Why doesn't she just say "I have a new single out this week, so I'm going to slag anyone I can which will grab me loads of headlines, get everyone talking about me and get me to #1." Oh look, it worked
July 4, 200619 yr Author Music news Lily has a pop at pop Acid-tongued rising star Lily Allen has attacked manufactured bands like Steps and S Club 7, accusing them of giving pop music a bad name. The singer reckons the word "pop" has been diluted by one-dimensional chart acts in recent years and also accused the current crop of female stars of failing to connect with the youth of today. She said: "Pop should be popular, but exciting and interesting, like T.Rex and The Clash. "Steps and S Club 7 shouldn't have been called pop - they should have been called s***." Is she right or is she beginning to get on your nerves? why is she going on about Steps and S Club 7? i suppose most 11 year old wouldnt know who the hell they are? they are not pop now, they are retro!!!

Ummm - Haven't seen her around just lately ^_^ are we talking about her? http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/d/d6/AmyWinehouse.jpg ps on hmv there is a dvd and cd called A Musical Journey Through Jewish History, be funny if it was all made up of winehouse and rachel stevens records
July 4, 200619 yr Once she sells as many records as Steps and S Club then she can talk. I like 'Smile' but i think what she's saying is totally unjustified. Steps and S Club were not $h!t - they were at the forefront of the pop industry for over 5 years and sold millions of records. I think if you asked people who was more $h!t now you'd probably get S Club/Steps as your answer because they're just not 'cool' anymore, but ask in 2000 (if Lilly had been releasing) and you'd get a totally different answer. Music style has kind of moved on - but it doesnt mean to say that pop acts from the late 90's/early 00's were $h!t - far from it...

'party pop' has its place, but lets not pretend it was anything other then what it was... just a cheap 3 minute no-brainer. i find it hard to comprehend that any serious music lover could stomach these manufactured acts... (that isnt a personal dig at coolnav, but a broad moan! lol)
July 4, 200619 yr I understand, but that genre was as you say - 'party pop' NOT $h!t. They brought spark to the UK and made music fun, they deserve every bit of credit they get. They may not have written many of the songs but they sure worked their arses off promoting them.
July 4, 200619 yr she can't actually sing very well at all. Hmm, another Milli Vanilli perhaps...?

But is someone like Lily Allen (who I consider to be pretty much part of the whole 'manufactured pop' thing) really the person to be saying this....? Coming from someone like Morrissey, Dave Gahan, Jarvis Cocker, Kate Bush or Neil Tennant, these comments could perhaps carry a lot more weight....

July 4, 200619 yr so old people then? Not necessarily, but I think someone that's actually been in the business for a little more than a week and 2 days, which is in fact the length of time she's had anything to offer the punters and get a return on. ;)
July 5, 200619 yr I understand, but that genre was as you say - 'party pop' NOT $h!t. They brought spark to the UK and made music fun, they deserve every bit of credit they get. They may not have written many of the songs but they sure worked their arses off promoting them. id suggest that there have always been 'party pop' acts producing their own material. our great pop music industry, in which we lead the world, was based on innovation. people with something to say. nowhere else on earth have you had the variety that pop music has given youth culture. all the different styles had their own sound, by people of that generation. manufactured 'pop' just does not do our heritage any favours, as its lead firmly by men older then me!¬!!! lol. it has 1 aim and 1 aim only... to make money. 'real' pop music was youth lead, the idea came from the young and was then taken up by the business. WE told THEM what the fashion was and WE created the music. steps and sclub etc are total products with no soul, nothing to say... ok for kiddies, but a diet of that lifeless bilge cant be good for the brain! you lot are now lead like sheep... instead of leading, thinking for yourselves, and having an original idea...
July 5, 200619 yr so old people then? I would prefer to say 'people who actually know what they're talking about and know the industry and our pop music heritage inside out'..... but it doesn't necessarily have to be 'old people' If someone from the second generation of young Britpop bands like Carl Barat were to say the same it then it would probably carry some weight as well, as he clearly has a sense of our British pop heritage, considering the way he borrows from The Who, The Kinks, etc....
