Eagles Return To Number One In Australia

by Paul Cashmere - December 10 2007

Eagles 'Long Road Out Of Eden' has returned to the top of the Australian chart for the third time in 6 weeks.

The album has been a stable seller, clocking in a further 16,132 units in the past 7 days.

The surprise of the week is the decline of Kylie Minogue's 'X' which debuted at number one last week, but dropped to number 9 in the second week of sales. Kylie sold 9,521 units last week.

Guy Sebastian had a nice rise off the back of his television special. 'The Memphis Album' jumped from 8 to 3 on sales of 12,839 units.

Tina Arena also had an impressive debut at 4. 'Songs of Love and Loss' sold 12,280 units. :D :D

The position of 2007 Australian Idol winner Natalie Gauci on the Australian chart this week has not improved despite a massive publicity campaign.

Gauci's 'Here Am I' sold another 7,303 units last week. It is the lowest sales figure for any Idol winner.

Last week, 'Here I Am' became the first Idol record to not debut at number one, after selling 7,463.

The song has sold 14,766 units in total over two weeks. Gold in Australia is for 35,000 sales.

While many an independent act would be happy to sell 14,000 units, for an Idol with a marketing campaign reaching millions, this is a disaster.

Last year's winner Damien Leith has also delivered a still-born release in 2007. His 'Where We Land' album is at 41 this week on unit sales of 2,870.

Justin Timberlake's 'FutureSex/LoveShow: Live From Madison Square Garden' has outsold the number one album in Australia this week.

The Timberlake DVD shifted 20,216 units, compared to 16,132 units sold by Eagles 'Long Road Out Of Eden'.

Timberlake was well in front of the combined Silverchair and Powderfinger DVD release which sold 6,076 units to lodge in at number 2.

However, the Australian DVD chart really belongs to maestro Andre Rieu who this week has 10 DVD's in the Top 20.

Rieu will perform in Sydney and Melbourne in November 2008.
