Mika and Amy top iTunes 2007 chart

Source: MW

15:00 | Tuesday December 11, 2007

Apple has today released the 2007 iTunes UK chart, revealing its top10 single and album downloads of the year, headed by Mika’s Grace Kelly (Casablanca/Island) and Amy Winehouse’s Back to Black (Island) respectively.

However, Leona Lewis did not fare as well with the iTunes community as might have been expected. Her single Bleeding Love (Syco), which is currently number one and the biggest selling single of the year so far, only made eighth place, reinforcing the fact that the single has largely been a physical success

Lewis’s debut album Spirit does not appear at all, despite being the third biggest selling album of 2007 to date.

Take That are enjoying a chart renaissance, appearing in the single and album chart at numbers 10 and 6 respectively, where they join Mika and the Kaiser Chiefs as the only artists to feature in both.

Thanks Mikey.

It's interesting to see which artists fair better on physicals & downloads. Newton Faulkner is a surprise there as he hasn't shifted that many copies in total.

Wonder what size album download sales we are talking about?

Think it's more of a reflection on how badly everyone else has done on physicals. Most of those at the top have been in the charts for a considerable number of weeks and after the initial burst of enthusiasm for a single its sales are almost entirely downloads. It'll be interesting to see how long Leona's "download tail" will be with Bleeding Love. Her sales target must surely be to overtake A Moment Like This.

Great to see Sugababes one there :D Mika almost no.1 on both charts :o

MW mentioned that only 2 artists have sold over 50k ....Amy - back to black and snow patrol - eyes open...but it said amy is on the way to selling 100k.

honestly, download albums do not sell very much at all. amy is a real anomaly selling nearly 100K with back to black (but compare that to her album's overall sales and it's clear that it's not very significant). at best, downloaded albums make up 10-20% of overall sales. i think the problem is that consumers (myself definitely included) don't feel like paying $10/8 pounds for a downloadable album when the physical equivalent (minus maybe some bonus tracks) is only a few dollars more. it feels like a half-ass commitment without much of a discount really

Good to see Timbaland's album's done well! :D

Well surely they have published this list too early? Didn't Shayne + Leona's singles break records in their first week of release after winning the c**t Factor?

Great to see the Sugababes so high though! I read in a sales report last week that AYN has only done about 70,000 physicals :o
