Guillermo Del Toro's amazing new film "Pan's Labyrinth" will be hitting the cinemas next week and you ALL need to go see it... Anyone who says they are into fantasy films, fairy tales, and even horror films, etc are gonna absolutely flip out over this amazing piece of cinema... Don't be put off by the subtitles, in fact I reckon the fact that it's subtitled is probably going to work in its favour seeing as how it is so steeped in the literary, fairy tale genre...

Thanks for the suggestion. Was Hellboy any good? Looked awful from the trailers but I don't remember the critics' reactions...

Personally, I actually rather enjoyed it.. If you'd read the comics I think you'd appreciate it more.. Ron Perlman was the perfect choice to play Hellboy.. I think the film suffered a bit because it didn't really have any A-List Hollywood actors, Del Toro cast the right people rather than go for the more obvious choices..

However, I would say "Cronos" and "The Devil's Backbone" are better representations of his artistry as a director than "Hellboy" or "Blade 2"..... "Pan's Labyrinth" is not gonna be a mainstream Hollywood production....

i enjoyed it too and its good that the 2nd one has a found a new prod home what with the closure of revolution studios

my brother saw this film on monday, its not really the kinda thing he'd usually watch but he really liked it. I'll def check it out when its released.

Pan's Labyrinth, you NEED to see this film....

...especially at a cinema which has digital projection system. so brilliant. dont wait for the dvd* (which will no doubt have like burnt on subtitles if its optinum) go see it now!!!

what with volver and babel** coming up thinking that most of the more interesting film makers are ones from the latin parts.

*note: also dont bother with the dvd (unless it has loads of free gifts or extras obv) as its a film4 co-prod so will be on film4 a billion times in about 18 months.

**no i havent worked out what is the correct way to say that yet unlike bol-ber (see empire quote, review of year: its not volvo etc etc  )

When's it out again? =/

I looked for it on my local cinema's menu thing and it wasn't there.

I was main gutttted.

It opened nationally on Friday, if you're cinema didn't get it then, it probably wont.... :( I'm betting your local cinema's one of these incredibly unenlightened ones that dont show subtitled films no matter how good they are....

I have heard only good things about it, and that child eater looks scary!

Hellboy was enjoyable, so obviously this isn't in English?

Nope, Spanish... But the subtitles work in its favour really... A lot of it is based around Fairy Tales, which have an oral and literary tradition, so the subs and the narration within the film really is in keeping with this tradition.. The Child-Eater is frightening, but the real point the film puts across is the sheer cruelty and inhumanity of the 'human world' (as personified by the truly despicable "Captain" whose actions frankly makes the Child Eater look like one of the Care Bears. The Captain's evil is made infinitely worse by the fact that he is no mere one-dimensional villain, but rather a well-rounded character...) which is far worse than the cruelty of any mythological creature. The film is essentially asking who is truly 'human' and who are the 'monsters'....?

It's an absolutely marvellous film that will honestly have you near-as-dammit crying like a baby at the end....

Google Pans Labyrinth and check the website - BEAUTIFUL it is- gorgeous downloads, too.....

Cineworld Haymarket or Curzon in Soho.. I dunno where you live in London, but those are probably your best bets.. I saw it at Haymarket (cos I have one of these nice Unlimited Cards...), bloody great sound.....

Pan's Labyrinth is truly AMAZING.

The spewing toad, the camp faun.... wonderful. The violence is pretty full-on and brutal, though, so most definitely not for kids - a truly modern, grown-up fairytale... which may be its undoing- it seems unsure whether it's a movie for kids or adults.

I loved the movie, though, from start to finish - an absolute gorgeous triumph.

10/10

i've heard good things about this movie ^_^
