May 19, 200619 yr Author Elena made it  :cheer:  she was soooooo HOT  Carola was good but I don't think she'll win ! Hari was awesome! Ukraine loved it :D it's a shame that Kate did not made it she was excelent & Slovenia 2 :( can't wait 4 tomorow :D VOTE 4 MACEDONIA #11 AGAIN  :cheer: Glad Elena got through, but I didn't really see the need of ERT putting Former Yugoslav Republic Of Macedonia at the "bottom right hand corner" of the screen. It took up half the screen! Her moves were great though, the onscreen writing is the only thing I can really fault about it!
May 19, 200619 yr Author VOTE FOR GREECE EUROPE Nah sorry, but then again you would say that living in Cyprus.

ERT did that on purpuse    but nothing can stop us nothing can't stop Elena!will finish in front of Greece tomorow :D :D :cheer:
May 19, 200619 yr ERT did that on purpuse    Well of course it was always gonna have the full name of the country at ESC2006 as it was Greece who were arsey over the name and flag in the first place   WIKI: The Republic of Macedonia (Macedonian: Република Македонија, Albanian: Republika e Maqedonisë), sometimes referred to as Macedonia, is an independent state on the Balkan peninsula in southeastern Europe. The country borders Serbia and Montenegro to the north, Albania to the west, Greece to the south, and Bulgaria to the east. As the result of a naming dispute with Greece, it has also accepted former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) as a formal title. The capital is Skopje with more than 600,000 inhabitants. It has a number of smaller cities, notably Bitola, Prilep, Tetovo, Kumanovo, Ohrid, Veles, Stip, and Strumica. The Republic of Macedonia is often called a land of lakes and mountains. There are more than 50 natural and artificial lakes and sixteen mountains higher than 2,000 metres (6,550 ft) above sea level. The country is member of the UN, Council of Europe, associate member of La Francophonie, World Trade Organization (WTO), Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe, since December 2005 it is a candidate for joining the European Union, and is also expecting NATO membership. NAMING DISPUTE The Republic of Macedonia is commonly referred to as 'Macedonia', but the name is also used to designate the wider geographical region of Macedonia or the Greek region of Macedonia. Due to a dispute between the governments of the Republic of Macedonia and Greece over the name, the United Nations agreed to a provisional name – "the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia" (FYROM) (in Macedonian: Поранешна Југословенска Република Македонија (ПЈРМ) – when it became a member state in 1993.[2] Most international organizations adopted the same convention, including the European Union, NATO, the International Monetary Fund, the European Broadcasting Union, and the International Olympic Committee, among others. However, an increasing number of countries have abandoned the UN provisional references and have recognised the country as the "Republic of Macedonia" instead. These include three of the five permanent UN Security Council members, the United States, Russia, and the People's Republic of China. From 1992 to 1995, the two countries also engaged in a dispute over the republic's first flag, which incorporated the Vergina Sun symbol, seen by many Greeks as a symbol of the ancient Kingdom of Macedon. Its adoption by the Republic of Macedonia, on 3 July 1992, was seen as a reaction by Skopje to Athens' pressure to change the name. This aspect of the dispute was permanently resolved after an interim accord between the two states, when the flag was changed by an act of parliament, in October 1995.
May 19, 200619 yr Author Well of course it was always gonna have the full name of the country at ESC2006 as it was Greece who were arsey over the name and flag in the first place   Oh God yeah of course it was! still looks untidy though. -_- On the scoreboard, Bosnia-Herzegovina looks squashed enough but Former Yugoslav Republic Of Macedonia goes onto two lines and looks rather out of place. ^_^
May 19, 200619 yr Finland qualified - FANTASTIC!! At least one different good track among the basic ECS stuff in the final. Kate didn't qualify but that at the end of the day didn't surprise me. I got a feeling a few days ago that this might be this year's Selma. Too bad, it certainly was top 5 for me. Also too bad that Estonia didn't qualify, a decent track but horrible position to sing after Carola. The biggest surprises among the ones that did qualify were Ireland (who on earth did vote that dull c**p?) and Lithuania (ok, the novelty tracks tend to do fine but I thought this was not funny, just emberrassing). And that Turkey'sperformance, that certainly was total garbage. She looked like a recovering drug-addict having a slip (and I don't think she was after that look). Overall, three of my five favourites did qualify, Finland, Sweden, and Russia. Those three with Romania and Germany are my top 5 for now. I hope that the god-awful dullfest from Bosnia won't win (I hope it will fail to make into top 10 but that's too much to ask, it certainly has top 5 written all over it - but one can hope :-)). Daz on the other hand won't have any chance making into top ten, top 15 is possibility. I think it will come down to Romania, Sweden, Bosnia, and Greece (wouldn't have any chance winning if it wouldn't be the host) to battle for the top spot with Finland having a very solid outside chance. GO FINLAND !! Edited May 19, 200619 yr by JackJones
May 19, 200619 yr What a performance from Russia-how weird was that with the woman in the piano :-0 Ireland was quite good-did anyone notice the small male backing singer behind Brian-great stuff!!! Kate Ryan proves that you can be Europe's biggest star, put on a very classy performance, but at the end of the day, people will still vote for their neighbours and Belgium don't seem to receive many neighbourly votes...
May 19, 200619 yr Author This year in the UK you could only vote once for a country. Did that happen in other countries?
May 19, 200619 yr OMG, no Belgium or Estonia :o  What an outcry, and Lithuania and Finland made it YES :cheer: No Belguim And Lithuania made it through, I'm in profit on the betting!! :cheer: Having backed Lithuania and Sweden. Sweden are now Joint favourites with Greece
May 19, 200619 yr Now I think about it Carola is solely representing scandi-pop now Estonia and Iceland are out so I think she'll only do as well as Lena Phillipson and Fame (5th). If Invincible was in the 1999 contest it would have won for sure-different musical climate back then... Watch out for Lordi in the voting-you have been warned. UK will give 12 to Ireland without a doubt and probably 10 and 8 to Finland and Sweden...
May 19, 200619 yr Hope Lithuania dies on its arse, one of the worst in history!!! Would like to see one of these win - Romania, Malta, Sweden, Ukraine, Russia, Macedonia, UK...not for the song tho!!! Greek entry is absolutely dire - they should make it a new rule where the host country cannot enter that year. Irish entry is boredom personified - it put me to sleep....
May 19, 200619 yr Apparently Anna Vissi goes a bit OTT wen performing it live (hopefully :-)) but for being the host nation and a popular country it will come top 10 for sure...
May 19, 200619 yr I've heard Anna Vissi gives a very weak performance. Brian Kennedy also did a lot of European promo apparently. Ireland should hopefully give lots of points to Sweden as Carola was on our biggest TV show a few weeks ago (I saw the vid on Youtube and I couldn't believe my eyes!!), meaning good promo :cheer:
May 19, 200619 yr Author Ooh I watched that, she was very good  but she was miming wasn't she? Off topic... the semi final has done wonders for the forum, must be the busiest today apart from BB!
May 19, 200619 yr OMG, has it all ended now? I missed it yesterday and I don't know how =l. I feel so out of the loop =[[. <333333333@Lordi thouuugh!
