The Golden Compass is the American title of the book (they have to change everything). In UK the trilogy is called "His Dark Materials" and the first book - The Northern Lights.

I have fond memories of reading it in the Spring of 2002, listening to a cd of Darius singing all the songs from Pop Idol.

should be putting out nuts - but the squirrels have eaten them all! we have a family of seven who seem to hold me rsponsible for their having full bellies! I suppose my fault, I fed them and upset the nature of things, they moved in to a neighbours tree to be near the food, had five bonny kits due to the plentiful food at hand and now the whole lot are regulars! it is lovely though, they squabble and come to feed all the time, and drink from the pond - luckily they arent silly and ran across it when it was frozen, but not now its thawed..I had the fishing net at hand in case of any accidents! it will cost me a fortune at this rate unless the youngsters are chased off to new territories at breeding time - we still have loads of blackbirds squabbling due to their double broods, but the youngsters are not wanting to go - too much rich pickings here! to be honest we have spent more time watching out of the window than watching tv over xmas as its more entertaining.

What should I be doing? Tbh I probably need to sit down and just have a good think and then make a list. I'm just so glad to be back to normal that I simply want to do nothing much today.

No real progress yet. The insurance company haven't sent anyone out yet, so the builders have to wait.

The guy came to look at the cornicing and he's confident he can replace it to make it appear good as new. He didn't however give any verbal estimate so I expect it wiill not be inexpensive.

I should be making lunch. I'm quite hungry but I was at the dentist today and my lips are still all numb. I'd rather wait until i can get a nice warm cuppa without dribbling.

I'm annoyed with myself. I was stupid.

We've had dreadful winds. I checked around and thank goodness we don't seem to have any damage. Overnight I'd convinced myself there would be a pile of broken slates when I went out.

I picked up the wheelie bins before I went to the library and when I came back they were down again. I should just have left them but instead I dropped one right on my shinbone . Tere's no real damage just some scraped skin and a dull ache. I should be going shopping but I'm going to leave it until tomorrow.

I'm fine now, thanks. I just feel a bit foolish. I'll wear opaque tights for a couple of days.

I should wash the inside of the windows. The sunshine showed up some streaks and they're really irritating me. I'm not goint to be able to resist the urge.
