She did ring me - just as my husband came home. I wouldn't know where to go if that happened to me, Nina. I've had a couple of viruses but they seemed relatively easy to get rid of. The one which started deleting all my files from the top was the worst. Trouble is, I can't remember how I stopped that - I just went into pure panic and did everything I could think of. I had to put the files back trom the trash can when I managed to stop it.

So far it hasn't done any major damage but I can't get rid of it and nothing on the internet can tell me how to remove it. The only solution now is to wipe my hard drive and reload all the drivers, programs etc. Time consuming but safer

Thanks Meg and goodnight.

I'm receiving some good advice from a friend and he'll be at the other end of msn while I'm doing it so I can shout for help if I have problems.

I've never reinstalled XP before, only windows 98 a few times.

Thanks, it went well. The hard drive is now reformatted and everything reloaded. My computer is now squeaky clean once again. Finished at about 1am last night.
I bet you're glad that's over. I'm off for the papers. I'm running late but my father-in-law is asleep now.

I think someone has abducted my father-in-law. They've left a replacement. This one LOOKS the same but, he says "Thank you" when you do something for him, talks to you and behaves as a human being. If they try and change them over again, I'm not letting them in. Life is much better with this one.

Dave's out tonight, so I'd better finish getting his meal.

I was going to phone you, Pam - then realised the time. Steve may not be amused.
Meg, hope your father-in-law's alter-ego stays around for a while.
