The band's ninth studio album 'Stadium Arcadium' went straight to the top of the Billboard chart on Wednesday after shifting 442,500 copies in its opening week. The record - a mammoth 28-track double album - easily beat the Chili Peppers' last effort 'By The Way', which sold 282,000 copies in its first week and peaked at number two. The American success of the album matches their success around the world. 'Stadium Arcadium' is currently number one in the UK and has also topped the charts in Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Netherlands, Sweden and Switzerland.
