Fairytale Of New York is anything but boring. It is one of the very very few Christmas songs that can be put on any time of the year that I can appriciate for being the truly wonderful track it is, and not just as an Xmas song - and the best one of all time by a bloody landslide at that :wub:

I really really don't understand the big deal with the Pogues song at all :( It's really not that good imo, and I don't get why everyone loves it so much :blink:

 

It actually ranks about mid-table for me Christmas song wise. It's a drunk with bad teeth shouting at a woman who is only famous now for having died. Still, I'd prefer it at Xmas #1 than Leon.

The Pouges track is mint!!!, it's the Mariah one that's the problem!!!, epsecially the present in the video with the sparks coming off it before the song builds up.

Slick, that's a dreadful thing to say, mate..... I suggest you check out Miss MacColl's back catalogue - she's one of the finest singer-songwriters this country has produced - ever.

 

She's famous now because of this, not because of the horrific way in which she was murdered.

 

Her songwriting talent is awesome - especially the wry, clever 'In These Shoes' - thisispop - can we have some Kirsty classics, please?

Maybe her caustic delivery helps, too - In These Shoes is a tremendous song - lyrically, too.

 

She was French and Saunders musical guest every week for a few series in the 90s.... always great on that, too.

If you really like the song and the song is fantastic, just download the original version and make it number one.

The original one is fantastic and totally deserves the Xmas no:1 spot.

I'd rather have Leona Lewis go back to number one and spend an 8th week at the top.

It's obvious that he couldn't match the sales of Shayne or Leona, but it's still great sales for him :)
