December 24, 200717 yr Author 24 - HELLOGOODBYE - Here (In Your Arms) http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/88697098472.JPG Peak Possition: No.4 Sales: 107,000 The hype was there, they were tipped as the next big thing, but ended up being nothing more than a one-hit wonder. "Here In Your Arms" was the debut UK release for 'emo band making electropop' Hellogoodbye, and even with the promising sound and catchy hook-up lyrics, they couldn't obtain a sophomore hit with their follow-up effort "Baby It's Fact" (which in fact is very nice and charted earlier here).
December 24, 200717 yr Author 23 - GIRLS ALOUD - Sexy! No No No.. http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/GIRLSALOUD07.JPG Peak Possition: No.2 Sales: 108,000 It's a love or hate situation with Girls Aloud's "Sexy! No No No..". When the title of this comeback single was announced, everyone was peeing their pants with excitement. Unfortunately, the debut of the song parted ways with the general public, with almost half of the people claiming they hated the track and the other half loving every second of it. If I'm 100% sincere, this is nowhere near their best material and I wasn't feeling it much when I first heard it, but it grew awfully on me and therefore it got as high as No.2 on my charts! It still remains one of my faves of 2007, although the pop master-piece that is "Call The Shots" makes you almost forget this song ever existed.
December 24, 200717 yr Author 22 - NELLY FURTADO - Say It Right http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/9853919.JPG Peak Possition: No.2 Sales: 109,000 Who on Earth would've though that Nelly Furtado was to release her best song to date as the 4th single off her album "Loose" and on downloads alone? Well, it did happen, blame the record company I say! "Say It Right" is Nelly Furtado at her highest peak, and it reached a point where we must ask ourselves how will she top that with her next album (!) Well, in the meantime we get to enjoy "Say It Right", which in my opinion is one of the best pop records of the year.
December 24, 200717 yr Author 21 - EDITORS - Smokers Outside The Hospital Doors http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/SKCD93.JPG Peak Possition: No.5 Sales: 114,000 Taken from the more improved sound of "The Back Room" album, "Smokers Outside The Hospital Doors" was the comeback single for Editors, following the success of 2005/2006 "Munich" and "All Sparks". The song shows a more mature and sophisticated sound for them, although the basic elements remain intact and their trademark deep/obscure sound is still untouched.
December 24, 200717 yr Author 20 - KAISER CHIEFS - Ruby http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/KAISERPRECD.JPG Peak Possition: No.3 Sales: 114,000 When the Kaiser Chiefs announced their comeback this year, everyone was wondering how they'd topple the catchy hook-ups of already modern rock classics such as "I Predict A Riot" or "Everyday I Love You Less And Less". And they delivered, releasing the instant classic "Ruby", a song that's very hard to get off your mind once you hear it once or twice. Deservedly, they topped the charts for the very first time in Spring, acheiving their biggest hit to date. Unfortunately, the album "Yours Truly Angry Mob" isn't as promising as it should've been, and the follow-up singles couldn't find much chart success, athough "Everything Is Average Nowadays" deserved so much better than it did! December 25, 200717 yr Author 19 - KYLIE MINOGUE - 2 Hearts http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/PREKYELESCDS.JPG Peak Possition: No.2 Sales: 120,000 It was the most hyped comeback of pop music in recent times, Kylie Minogue was seen as the true fighter she is beating cancer's ass and proving herself and everyone in the world that she could still make music against all odds. Unfortunately, for many people this wasn't the comeback they were expecting, and it resulted on "2 Hearts" not even reaching Top 3 status (nevermind the huge No.1 hit everyone was wanting). Nevertheless, the song is a great piece of pop, and even though most of her fans and the public in general wanted her to deliver an electro-pop "I Believe In You"-esque, "2 Hearts" is itself a catchy electro-rock number from Miss Minogue.
December 25, 200717 yr Author 18 - THE FRAY - How To Save A Life http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/88697072312.JPG Peak Possition: No.4 Sales: 122,000 Finding almost unanimous hatred amongst BuzzJack members, "How To Save A Life" was actually one of my favourite songs in the Spring, spending an impressive 7 weeks into my personal chart's Top 10 and a total of 10 weeks into the Top 20 (!)
December 25, 200717 yr Author 17 - PAOLO NUTINI - New Shoes http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/ATUK057CD.JPG Peak Possition: No.6 Sales: 123,000 When Paolo Nutini could only reach UK No.21 with the last single-off "These Streets", "New Shoes", everyone was fastly calling the single a flop. Fortunately, it was not the case, as the song's staying power on the charts made the single become the biggest selling non-top 20 hit of the year. For my personal chart standards, "New Shoes" spent 3 weeks into the Top 10 (debuting at No.9 and eventually peaking at No.6) and the impressive amount of 14 weeks into the Top 20.
December 25, 200717 yr Author 16 - GIRLS ALOUD - Call The Shots http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/1749896.JPG Peak Possition: No.1 Sales: 128,000 Still in my personal chart's Top 3, "Call The Shots" is arguably the best Girls Aloud song in years. The electro-pop craze of this single made it one of the Girls biggest hits to date, reaching No.3 in the UK Singles Chart and beating artistically and successfully its predecessor "Sexy! No No No..".
December 26, 200717 yr almost all of them that i know from your list so far i like! you made me VERY happy by saying Gimme More is not top 500! :w00t:
December 30, 200717 yr Author 15 - MAXÏMO PARK - Our Velocity http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/WAP220CD.JPG Peak Possition: No.1 Sales: 132,000 This was one of the best comebacks from indie-rock for Maxïmo Park, the band had finished 2005 with a string of Top 20 hits, including the memorable smashes "Graffiti", "Going Missing" and "Apply Some Pressure" and returned this 2007 with their very first Top 10 "Our Velocity".
December 30, 200717 yr Author 14 - MARK RONSON FEAT. AMY WINEHOUSE - Valerie http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/88697186332.JPG Peak Possition: No.3 Sales: 134,000 This was definitely an incredible year for Mark Ronson. His re-versions of recent hits was a complete success, and his treatment to The Zutons' 2006's "Valerie" (including the help of Amy Winehouse) took him to the Top 3 for the second time this Autumn.
December 30, 200717 yr Author 13 - MARK RONSON FEAT. DANIEL MERRIWEATHER - Stop Me http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/88697078761.JPG Peak Possition: No.1 Sales: 144,000 After enjoying success as a producer, Mark Ronson decided to follow a career as an artist releasing his own album "Version". His re-version of Morrissey's "Stop Me If You Think You've Heard This One Before" (simply titled "Stop Me" for this treatment) was a huge debut success for him, featuring guest vocals by Daniel Merriweather.
December 30, 200717 yr Author 12 - HARD-FI - Suburban Knights http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/HARD07CD.JPG Peak Possition: No.1 Sales: 146,000 Following the amazing "Stars Of CCTV", which topped the charts in January 2006, Hard-Fi returned with a bang this year when "Suburban Knights" gave them their biggest hit to date! The song itself is an amazing piece of indie-rock and it definitely stands out on their new album "Once Upon A Time In The West", and the follow-up "Can't Get Along (Without You)" was also great, but unfortunately, it didn't set the UK Charts on fire.
December 30, 200717 yr Author 11 - KLAXONS - Golden Skanks http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/BEC5772075.JPG Peak Possition: No.1 Sales: 149,000 Arguably my favourite newcomers this 2007, Klaxons appeared out of nowhere with the incredibly amazing "Golden Skanks". Their first and only top 10 hit to date, the song ackwardly topped my personal charts 2 months after its release and was followed in the Top 3 by "Gravity's Rainbow".
December 30, 200717 yr Author 10 - THE KILLERS FEAT. LOU REED - Tranquilize http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/1753071.JPG Peak Possition: No.1 Sales: 150,000 Still on my personal chart's Top 10, "Tranquilize" by the mighty Killers (and a little help from Lou Reed) gained enough to reach the Top 10 of this year-end's summit. The song is nothing but a rock master-piece, with a darker sound we've never heard before from the Las Vegas rockers.
December 30, 200717 yr Author 9 - THE KILLERS - Read My Mind http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/KILLERSPRESAM.JPG Peak Possition: No.1 Sales: 152,000 One of their most memorable songs since their debut "Mr. Brightside" in 2004, the rock ballad "Read My Mind" is definitely a favourite at The Killers' concerts. The song gained them recognition all over the world this year and was one of their most successful from their album "Sam's Town".
December 30, 200717 yr Author 8 - LINKIN PARK - What I've Done http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/W762CD1.JPG Peak Possition: No.1 Sales: 161,000 "What I've Done" is probably the best Linkin Park song since they first appeared on scene in 2001 with "One Step Closer". The song was their big comeback hit this summer, their very first single since the hugely successful "Numb/Encore" in 2004/2005. It is taken from their incredible new album "Minutes To Midnight".
December 30, 200717 yr Author 7 - ARCTIC MONKEYS - Brianstorm http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/RUG254CD.JPG Peak Possition: No.1 Sales: 162,000 One of the strongest songs they've ever written and recorded, "Brianstorm" returned the Arctics to the UK Top 3 this year and was the kick-off single from their new album "Favourite Worst Nightmare". It followed their huge debut success from 2006 "Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not" which included the memorable hits "I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor", "The View From The Afternoon" and "When The Sun Goes Down".
