December 28, 200717 yr Well, the Chin-strokey, middle-class Coffee bar brigade is a pretty big market, as is the we-only-buy-one-or-two-albums-a-year market.... -_- Well every singer of Dido's variety doesn't sell 2 million copies of each album. She has something special. Well, his knowledge of music is almost certainly superior to yours mate.... -_- I'm gutted, truly I am.
December 28, 200717 yr Well every singer of Dido's variety doesn't sell 2 million copies of each album. She has something special. She's unimaginitive... People like that, they love middle-of-the-road, easy listening that they dont have to think too much about.. That's her selling point... People bought about a half BILLION Nana Mouskouri, Paul Anka, Engelbert Humperdink and Perry Como albums as well, so, erm, let's put things in perspective here.....
December 28, 200717 yr The Police were great.... Sting solo? err......... Don't you like his songs? (e.g. Fields of Gold)? And there's never any excuse for bilge like Bryan Adams. Not ever.^_^ Nice namechecks for Cocteau Twins, Ladytron and Client, though, even if they do sit rather uncomfortably with (mumbles with embarrassment) Roxette (sorry for swearing). The order on that list is pretty random (I mean CT, Ladytron & Client are defintelly better than Roxette). Of course I like some bands more than others... ;) as you're such a fan of Salva Mea.... a few weeks ago, it's the song I nominated in the Retro 1995 song of the year contest - perhaps you'd like to pop over there and vote for it? My bad I will check that thread soon

People bought about a half BILLION Nana Mouskouri and Perry Como albums as well, so, erm, let's put things in perspective here..... That's just your opinion. I rate her songs from calming to thought-provoking, feel-good to memorable. She has solid albums and truly brilliant singles. It's sadly become 'cool to diss Dido; all part of the thing they do in the media which starts with hyping up an artist and then waiting to tear them down. Thankfully a nice majority of the music-buying public can see her talent and will hopefully make her third album the incredible success her last two were.
December 28, 200717 yr The Police were great.... Sting solo? err......... And there's never any excuse for bilge like Bryan Adams. Not ever. Spot on on both counts... Brian Adams is just about the most annoying, lowest common denominator tripe out there really.... For polluting the charts with that bloody awful "Everything I Do..." song ALONE is worth the death sentence... I was NEVER so grateful to U2 in my life than the day they ended that wretched song's reign with "The Fly".....
December 28, 200717 yr It's sadly become 'cool to diss Dido; I never particularly liked her, she only briefly piqued my interest when I heard she was Rollo from Faithless' sister, so I though some of his talent may have rubbed off.. erm.... ; so I didn't jump on any "bandwagon"... Didn't buy any of her stuff, nor will I ever....
December 28, 200717 yr Well, his knowledge of music is almost certainly superior to yours mate.... -_- hehe.. thanks, Scott.... it's kind of hilarious to be debating musical quality with a Dannii Minogue fan, isn't it? That Jark - he'll be a one when he grows up. Quite a one, I imagine.

Quite a one, I imagine. Well it seems we've all got some growing up to do. To base an opinion of one's music taste on just one artist is quite ridiculous; to do it without even giving justification borders on pathetic.
December 28, 200717 yr Don't you like his songs? (e.g. Fields of Gold)? I didn't to be honest.... I liked Fragile and Englishman In New York, though, but the rest of his stuff I find a bit toe-curling.

Scott - it's pointless, you'll never educate pork. You're dealing with someone who truly, honestly equates musical ability or greatness with the amount of units sold. Yet still professes love, admiration and obsession with err.... Dannii 'it was totally out of tune... no, all of it' Minogue. Last single? 27 copies sold. At a push. As for it being fashionable to knock Dido - so what? Does fashion alter her singing ability? She's always barely carried a tune, even with her work with Faithless... perhaps her wispy, light singing style would appeal to people who aint fans of great singers? And as for calling her work 'thought-provoking'. err... for who? The terminally simple? Edited December 28, 200717 yr by russt68
December 28, 200717 yr I will check that thread soon done! thanks anyway (so close to miss voting for Garbage, one of my special bands :) )
December 28, 200717 yr Scott - it's pointless, you'll never educate pork. Seriously, what is the need to sink to these kinds of depths? You're always demonstrating you're knowledge of music; that might be one thing, but knowing basic manners is another, and you always seem to cross the line. It's just so rude. You're dealing with someone who truly, honestly equates musical ability or greatness with the amount of units sold. Yet still professes love, admiration and obsession with err.... Dannii 'it was totally out of tune... no, all of it' Minogue. Last single? 27 copies sold. At a push. Yes, I have love for Dannii; and the comment she made was completely right. The girl had just as much right to comment on how in or out of tune the contestants on the X Factor are as any of the judges do; more, in fact, given that she CAN sing in tune - see the 2006 Children In Need performance for starters - and none of the others could utter a single note in key. More importantly, though, Dannii has released some of the best commercial dance-pop songs of the last decade in the form of All I Wanna Do, Disrememberance, Who Do You Love Now?, Put The Needle On It, I Begin To Wonder, You Won't Forget About Me etc. I have no shame in loving a talented singer AND songwriter such as Dannii, regardless of how much you may scoff (though I do actually recall you saying that, whilst in your opinion she can't sing a note live to save her life, she has released some great pop songs. I guess that left you're mind when you wrote this). And as for calling her work 'thought-provoking'. err... for who? The terminally simple? Get a grip, please. Insulting people without reason is so immature.
December 28, 200717 yr (though I do actually recall you saying that, whilst in your opinion she can't sing a note live to save her life, she has released some great pop songs. I guess that left you're mind when you wrote this). He's probably admiring the production more than the 'artist'....
December 28, 200717 yr He's probably admiring the production more than the 'artist'.... That's all a part of the package of a pop song though; of any song. And why the quotes? Why should being the younger sister of a more famous popstar relegate Dannii to that? It shouldn't.
December 28, 200717 yr That's all a part of the package of a pop song though; of any song. And why the quotes? Why should being the younger sister of a more famous popstar relegate Dannii to that? It shouldn't. The quotes are there because I dont regard Dannii as being an artist at all.... Not a fan of Kylie's music either (especially the c**p-awful Goldfrapp-lite bollocks she's coming away with atm...) to be honest, but at least she has an iconic status about her. Dannii has no such quality...
December 28, 200717 yr ALL OF YOU SHUT UP -_- Russ, just beause something is in your music taste, doesn't mean it's RIGHT. Jark is more than entitled to his opinion, as are you. Stop looking for bloody arguments.
December 28, 200717 yr And another thing (Double posting must be fun cause RUSS does it) Define a 'one' You are so low russ, seriously, you just really wanna have an argument with anyone over anything. This is about Dido, why bring Dannii into it?!
