Joan Wasser (born July 26, 1970, in Biddeford, Maine) is a violinist and singer/songwriter in the indie rock world. Her best known album is Real Life, released in 2006 under the moniker Joan As Police Woman. This single was reissued as a radio promo single in February.

"I'd Wait for Life" is a pop/ballad song written by Take That, featuring Gary Barlow on lead vocals. Released in June from the then over 1 million selling album, it was perhaps not too surprising that the single limped to UK#17, breaking their string of #1s by failing to become their seventh consecutive #1.

Sam Newton Battenberg Faulkner (born January 11, 1985 in Surrey, England) is a British musician. He is well known for his distinctive ginger dreadlocks. His second single peaked at UK#7 in July taken from his #1 album Hand Built By Robots.

"Tell Me Where It Hurts" was written by Garbage following the end of the band's temporary hiatus preceding the band's career-spanning retrospective album Absolute Garbage. It reached UK#50.

The four-piece indie band from Sheffield, England released their fifth single, Sexy In Latin on January 22 and became their highest charting single yet, entering the official UK singles chart at number 20. Sadly they parted ways with their record label V2 in November.

a truly great start - some interesting songs included (very surprised by Siouxsie's poor showing, though). A chart spoilt only by the pretty bizarre inclusion of the ghastly Big Girls Don't Cry by the equally horrific Fergie.

Cat Power is the stage name of American singer/songwriter Charlyn "Chan" Marshall (born Charlyn Marie Marshall on 21 January 1972). She is known for her minimalist style, sparse guitar and piano playing, and ethereal vocals.

 

The title track of her 2006 album that gained her a couple of International Female nominations at the 2007 BRITs saw this track released as a promo radio single in January.

99 Stereophonics - It Means Nothing (9wks 39-31-22-12-9-9-9-14-30)

 

 

It Means Nothing was the frontier single (UK#12) of the album Pull The Pin, released in October before the LP was released a week later on October 15th.

98 Peter, Bjorn & John ft Victoria Bergsman - Young Folks (2007 Remix) (8wks 7-4-4-4-10-17-25-33)

 

 

The single was re-released on 17 September 2007, when it reached number 13 in the UK, beating the original chart position of number 33 in 2006.

 

It is therefore the only song that made my Top100 this year & last year. (Last year, that accolade went to Kaiser Chiefs - I Predict A Riot).

97 Avril Lavigne - Girlfriend (10wks 25-14-12-8-7-8-13-19-24-34)

 

 

Canada's Avril's lead single from her 3rd album Best Damn Thing is the second US Chart-topper on my countdown. It reached UK#2. The song involves Lavigne proclaiming a crush on a boy currently with his girlfriend and features the typical 80' pop-punk influence and power pop of her earlier songs mixed with a more commercial P!nk rock/pop sound.

96 Muse - Invincible (4wks 40-33-35-40)

 

 

"Invincible" is a song by British rock band Muse and is the sixth track on their fourth album Black Holes and Revelations. The song was also released as the fourth single from that album in the United Kingdom on April 9, 2007. The single debuted at #21 on April 15, becoming the first single from Black Holes and Revelations not to debut in the Top 20 the first week physical formats were available. The song has been compared by fans to Keane's "Everybody’s Changing" due to its similar chord progression on the verse and an identic on the chorus; however according to Bellamy it was based on David Bowie’s "Heroes".

 

This is the one song on my countdown that has benefitted from me failing to realise what a great song it was at the time of it's release.

Until September 2001, Siobhan was a member of English pop group the Sugababes, after which she was replaced by Heidi Range."Don't Give It Up" an ethereal piece of pop/electronica reached UK#45 in April, taken from her UK#92 album "Ghosts".

 

94 Kaiser Chiefs - Angry Mob (5wks 37-33-28-23-26)

 

 

This title track from the Leeds based BRIT winning group's second album only reached UK#22 but received substantial radio & video airplay.

93 LCD Soundsystem - Someone Great (7wks 4-4-6-11-14-20-30)

 

 

LCD Soundsystem is the musical project of producer James Murphy, co-founder of dance-punk label DFA Records. Released in October this failed to reach the UK Top75. The song itself is about loss, although the lyrics (and video) make it unclear as to whether it's regarding a death or the end of a romantic relationship.
