In stark contrast to #93, here is the UK biggest selling single of the year, by the 2006 X Factor winner. Reassuringly (for my musical tastes), the superb Donna Summer-esque tune is a fluke compared to the rest of her over polished Mariah Houston songs by numbers tracks on her debut album Spirit.

 

91 Kate Walsh - Your Song (7wks 13-9-9-16-27-34-40)

 

 

In 2007, folk singer Kate released her second album, Tim's House. It quickly became the No. 1 album on the UK iTunes Store, her most popular song being Your Song which was released as a single in September. Despite major support from Radio 2 this track failed to break into the UK Top75.

 

90 Bens Brother - Carry On (8wks 20-15-8-9-11-14-21-38)

 

 

Ben's Brother is a five-piece band from the UK, headed by founder Jamie Hartman. Their band was named after Jamie's big brother Ben, in whose shadow he lived. Jamie always considered himself the beta male of the family, which gave him the idea for the title of their debut album.

 

Their debut album, Beta Male Fairytales, was released on the 6th August 2007. This track was the 4th release from it in November but failed to trouble the UK Top75 despite Radio 2 support.

 

89 David Guetta - Love Is Gone (8wks 37-27-16-8-18-37-38-40)

 

 

The French DJ scored a UK Top10 hit with this Dance track in August, after it had been a huge club hit all over Europe in the summer.

88 Tiny Dancers - Hannah We Know (7wks 35-16-8-7-12-30-35)

 

 

The Sheffield band's debut album, entitled Free School Milk, produced by John Leckie of the Stone Roses fame, was released on June 11th 2007. It was preceded by this, their third single which reached UK#33.

87 Reverend & The Makers - Heavyweight Champion Of The World (9wks 37-24-15-9-9-12-17-22-39)

 

 

"Heavyweight Champion Of The World" tells a story of under-achievers, with the use of the ironic hook "just be like everybody else." The song title is taken from a line of Barry Hines book 'A Kestrel For A Knave.' Like the song, the book's main character is an under-achieving young boy growing up in Yorkshire. It is the second consecutive Sheffield band on my countdown. The song peaked at UK#8 in June.

86 Alanis Morissette - My Humps (7wks 21-9-10-13-14-18-33)

 

 

Alanis Morissette covered the song in 2007, seemingly as an April Fools' Day prank, although she has not confirmed this. In contrast to the original (awful Black Eyed Peas track) "My Humps", Morissette's cover is performed slowly and in the style of a ballad, with only a piano accompanying the vocal. On April 2, a video in which Morissette parodies Fergie's dancing moves in the original "My Humps" music video was added to the website YouTube. By April 3, the video was the most viewed on Technorati, and it was viewed 4 million times six days later.

 

The Associated Press wrote that Morissette's "quiet, somber version only highlights the ridiculousness of Fergie's original lyrics". The video has been hosted on Morissette's official website. TIME stated that the parody proved that Morissette "under[stands]" irony, in reference to her hit single, Ironic. On April 15, Fergie confirmed to E! News that she thought that the parody was "hilarious", and "genius". Fergie also said that she sent Alanis a cake in the shape of a "derrière".

85 Natasha Bedingfield - Soulmate (10wks 40-32-29-20-6-10-14-20-28-35)

 

 

Daniel's little sister released this as the second single from her poorly received 2nd album N.B. in July where it reached UK#7. The song's lyrics discuss if there is a soulmate for everyone and if Bedingfield will ever find the right partner, well after the lead single "(I Want To Have Your) Babies" is it surprising? :lol:

84 Regina Spektor - Fidelity (9wks 40-25-14-11-10-14-16-23-35)

 

 

"Fidelity" is an alternative pop song from Russian born/USA based singer-songwriter Regina Spektor released in March from the album Begin to Hope. It peaked at UK#45.

 

83 Babyshambles - The Delivery (9wks 36-20-14-8-15-15-17-28-37)

 

 

Pete Doherty's band scored a UK#6 hit with this relative return to Libertines-esque form with their 6th single in September, taken from their second album Shotter's Nation.

82 M.I.A. - Jimmy (7wks 6-5-5-9-11-30-38)

 

 

Mathangi "Maya" Arulpragasam released this Tamil/Sri Lankan influenced dance track as the second single from her second album Kala, in October where is sadly only reached UK#66.

81 Groove Armada ft Mutya - Song For Mutya (6wks 7-7-7-13-19-29)

 

 

"Song 4 Mutya (Out of Control)" was the second single from dance act Groove Armada's latest album Soundboy Rock and Mutya Buena's debut solo album, Real Girl (2007). It was expected by many people including several on Buzzjack to perform much better than it's actual UK#8 chart peak in late July.

 

80 Ghosts - The World Outside (8wks 34-25-14-6-6-8-14-33)

 

 

It was the second single to be released from the band's first album, The World Is Outside. It was released on June 4, 2007 and reached a peak position of #35 in the UK Singles Chart. It is there second & final entry on m countdown.

I'm surprised to see songs from Tasha B and Leona in your chart Rich :o But very good so far.

 

I love Groove Armada + Mutya and the Ghosts are ok too but I wasn't a big fan of Reverend + The Makers tbh and lol at the Alanis song.

79 Beverley Knight - No Man's Land (9wks 27-24-17-15-15-15-14-19-30)

 

 

Music City Soul is the fifth studio album recorded by British singer-songwriter Beverley Knight, recorded in 5 days in Memphis, Tennessee. This album debuted at UK#8 from which this lead single was taken in May shockingly only reaching UK#43.

 

 

78 Duke Special - Freewheel (7wks 37-27-17-14-18-22-28)

 

 

The second single from Ireland's singer/songwriter Duke Special on my countdown. Again this wonderful song failed to reach the UK Top75 despite Radio 2 support.

 

77 Fedde Le Grand ft Ida Corr - Let Me Think About It (9wks 37-12-5-6-11-18-16-19-25)

 

 

Dutch Dance DJ Fedde scored his third big UK hit single within the space of a year with this October UK#2 hit featuring Danish vocalist Ida Corr.

 

76 C.S.S. - Alcohol (7wks 29-20-15-14-19-26-40)

 

 

Released in October, this Brazillian group's second single on my countdown failed to reach the UK Top75 with this Pixies inspired track.

75 Crowded House - Pour Le Monde (4wks 19-4-4-9*)

 

 

In 2007 New Zealand's most famous songwriter Neil Finn reformed his old band after a break of over a decade and the death of their original drummer Paul Hester. This haunting ballad (the c.73,782 song attacking the Bush administration) was a download only single in the UK(#59) in December to coincide with them finishing their World Tour.

74 Calvin Harris - Acceptable In The 80's (6wks 20-6-6-9-19-40)

 

 

Released in March, this debut single quite literally does what it says it is from the title. It reached UK#10. Sadly for me I have not liked any of his other singles...
