Bolton's Cherry Ghost is an English indie rock band led by Simon Aldred. This their second single (their debut is still to come on my countdown) reached UK#27 in early July.

72 Klaxons - Golden Skans (9wks 32-26-17-15-14-12-13-21-38)

 

 

Taken from their Mercury Award winning album Myths Of The Near Future, this the 3rd single to appear from it reached UK#7 in January.

 

71 Shins - Phantom Limb (8wks 38-5-4-9-12-16-25-31)

 

 

Cult American Indie Rock band scored a UK#42 hit with this very melodic track in January.

70 Sophie Ellis-Bextor - Catch You (12wks 37-33-24-20-13-7-6-8-16-24-31-38)

 

 

This Cathy Dennis penned track was the comeback single from the wife of the Feeling's bassist and the daughter of a former Blue Peter presenter. Released in February this single under performed to many people's surprise only making UK#8.

69 Crowded House - Don't Stop Now (9wks 10-7-5-3-2-5-13-25-36)

 

 

"Don't Stop Now" was the first single from Crowded House's fifth studio album Time on Earth. The song was written by Crowded House frontman Neil Finn as a solo effort. The song features guitar work from alternative group The Smiths' former co-songwriter Johnny Marr. The song was originally destined for Finn's third solo album, but as his third album was converted into the new album for his band Crowded House, the song was released as a Crowded House offering. "Don't Stop Now" is one of only four from the fourteen tracks from Time on Earth that includes the full lineup of Finn, bassist Nick Seymour, guitarist/keyboardist Mark Hart and newcomer drummer Matt Sherrod as Crowded House. It peaked at UK#42 in June.

68 Linkin Park - What I've Done (10wks 14-7-6-7-7-7-9-20-28-35)

 

 

"What I've Done" is the lead single from Linkin Park's third album Minutes to Midnight, this song reached USA#7 & UK#6in April.

 

67 Travis - Closer (9wks 39-10-6-5-2-2-9-16-27)

 

 

The lead single from the Scottish quartets 2007 album the Boy With No Name debuted at #10 in early May. It is the first of three entries on the chart for Fran Healy & co.

 

66 Christina Aguilera - Candyman (10wks 38-7-4-4-6-9-12-18-24-29)

 

 

"Candyman" is a swing jazz song written by Christina Aguilera and Linda Perry for Aguilera's third studio album Back to Basics (2006). It was released as the album's third, and final US single in February 2007. It peaked at USA#25 & UK#17, but hung around the chart for quite some time. On December 2007, it received a Grammy Award nomimation for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.

65 Kelis ft Cee-lo - Lil' Star (12wks 35-21-10-5-2-4-5-9-10-15-22-30)

 

 

In February 2007 this single reached UK#3 The track was hailed by many music fans and critics as Kelis' 'comeback' single, despite the fact Bossy was written specifically for the return of Kelis to music. The single sold over 118,000 copies in the UK.

64 Lily Allen - Alfie (8wks 6-5-6-8-11-20-27-35)

 

 

On 5 March 2007 "Alfie" the 4th & final single from Alright Still, was released. It reached #15 in the UK Singles Chart. Apparently, upon originally hearing this song, her brother Alfie threw her laptop out of a window in revenge.

63 Take That - Shine (14wks 36-32-29-14-7-5-3-3-4-9-14-17-24-38)

 

 

"Shine" is a song by Take That, taken from their 2006 comeback album Beautiful World. It was the second single released from that album. It was released on 26 February 2007 and became their 10th UK#1. The song features lead vocals by Mark Owen.

Turn On Me is my fave song by The Shins but great to see them here as well as SEB, Lily Allen and Linkin Park!

 

I was disappointed with the Klaxons album but 'Golden Skans' was a great track and I didn't see the hype around Cherry Ghost at all either.

62 Amy Winehouse - Love Is A Losing Game (5wks 23-8-2-3-7*)

 

 

The first entry of four songs on my countdown from my last year's #1 of 2007 (Rehab), this was the fifth & final single taken from the quite brilliant Back To Black album. The song is the lowest-charting of Winehouse's Back to Black singles, peaking at UK No.46. When the single was released, 1.7million copies of the album had already been sold in the UK.

"Selfish Jean" is a song by Scottish alternative rock band Travis, and is the second track on their 2007 studio album The Boy with No Name. The song was released as the second single from that album in the United Kingdom, and was released in the UK on Monday 9 July 2007, it reached UK#30.

 

 

 

Of the 60 songs remaining, all are by acts who have just one song each, except two acts have 3 songs yet to appear in my countdown (both whom have already topped my Record of The Year polls this century.... and 3 acts have two songs each.
