Take That Back in 1995

what was that all about?? how did its start??? was it just made up by the media??? did they really hate each other??

well in my opinion it was a stupid and lame so called rivalry. The only member who i can "remember"

that had a problem with take that was tony mortimer and he still do, while brian harvey wish nothing but love & respect for take that

and he's very happy with their comeback succes. :D

anybody know if robbie ever said anything nasty towrad tony or the rest of the member os east 17??

I grew up with both the bands - obviously I liked take that more

Take that were always that little bit better and bigger - and East 17 - well certainly for me didnt really have any great singles until the "Stay another day " xmas single in 1994 and that duet they did with Gabrelle - other than that their songs werent great.

wow doesnt gary look fat in the above pic!!!!

I felt really sorry for East 17 when I saw that program The Truth About Boybands. They had a c**p manager who just used them and let them down badly. No matter what anyone says about Nigel Martin Smith - he did care about Take That.

On the rivalry bit - you're right - whenever I've heard Brian Harvey speak - it seems they did actually get on and in a bio I've read of the band (Take That) this is confirmed.

I was never an east 17 fan at the time but i do like a couple of there songs now rain and stay another day,i never thought they were great singers and always trie dto be the hard men of pop when in reality take that were more bad boys behind it all

Let It Rain? I don't think that was one of their best songs. I loved East 17. I was a fan of both groups and loved them both but I preferred E17. Their best album is Steam though I loved the Walthamstow album. My fave songs of theirs are It's Alright, Generation XTC, Thunder, Gold and Deep.

As for rivalry, Gary always saw East 17 and New Kids On The Block as rivals. He didn't like them. East 17 had a Xmas number one though, which TT didn't, and it stayed at no1 for 5 weeks which is longer than any TT song has spent at the top.

I NEVER bought an east 17 album until last year when isaw the best of for e2 so i bought it and its not a bad album but i dont listen to it much

Being a fan of TT, I can honestly say that Gary has NEVER ever said anything bad about ANY band or artist never mind East 17  Take That was obviously bigger and better band and I dont think Gary saw them as rivals at all.

I think the biggest difference between take that & east 17 back in the day was

that it was cool and acceptable to like East 17 if you were a boy, while liking take that was more of a girl thang

and they were very camp most of the male fans of take that back then were gay, take that were huge gay icons back then.

East 17 was more hard and street or what should i call it..."Chavy"?? but east 17 did wen soft and all r&b on us.

That's not what he said in My Take (I'm going to have to read it again now because I don't think he said much at all about them). As for Christmas Number One - OK Stay was a good song - but come on ... can you remember any decent Christmas Number one songs from say the last 13 years. I ask you to call to mind .... Cliff Richard, X Factor Winners and of course, the musical genius that was Mr Blobby!
