I think its so much better like whitney reacted, saying that she doesn't thinks that Mariah is really copying her only by sounding sometimes a bit like her.. Whitney never talked bad about Mariah and finally 8 years later both supervoices joined for a trademark duet.

 

Just on public appearances Whitney is much more intelligent than Madonna, cause Whitney realises that Mariah carey would become a Superstar (and in fact Mariah has outsold Whitneys career totals as early as the late 90's came) but Madonna wanted to argue with mariah, cause she couldn't accept that there was another very young singer, who could move audiences and who could become a houshold megastar. madonna thought that mariah would be a pop artists with like 2 albums and 5 mediocre successful hits and after mariah becoming the biggest artist of the 90's which one could have seen with music box selling over 20 million copies until beginning of 1995 Madonna felt threatened and she decided to diss Mariah instead of accepting her success, and in 1996 with the success of merry christmas and daydream it seemed that madonna would have no chance against mariah so the feud became even stronger.

buuut madonna is very succesfull out side the usa.While mariah haven't really had big album hity in europe & asi for years

i remember how succesful music box album was worldwide.

she sells more in the US than in any other market but shes had huge hits even after music box. Nowadays if an album sells 3m outside the us or outside europe its a super HIT!

Well according to something I read recently Mariah REPORTEDLY sold 6m outside of the US with Mimi. Not sure how true that is but great if it is. :D

 

As for Whitney - you could tell she didn't like being asked that question but gave a pleasant response anyway. Let's face it, if you're the #1 female of your genre and then someone else who has the potential to be better than you turns up, how are you going to take it? Of course there was and to some extent always will be a bit of competition but at least it's not deemed to be more sinister than it really is.
