This is on Tyron's behalf, so don't shoot me the messenger - me - if you don't like it.

Ok I can't actually find the ban list but it's anyone who has been #1 of a BuzzJack multichart anyway I think so here is the list:

Pink

Embrace

Infernal

Wyclef Jean

Lily Allen

Rogue Traders

Christina Aguilera

Cascada

Scissor Sisters

Snow Patrol

All Saints

Nelly Furtado

Mika

Kelis

Avril Lavigne

Beyoncé

Shakira

Rihanna

Fergie

Groove Armada

Mutya Buena

Timbaland

Keri Hilson

D.O.E.

Sebastian

Robyn

Kleerup

Girls Aloud

Sugababes

Britney Spears

Leona Lewis

The ones in red are from 2006 so I dunno if they count or not as I had to search old multicharts and stuff. Ask him when he returns if you wish to know. ^_^

That really limits my choices since most of them are my favourite acts  If this is approved there won't be many artists left for me to choose from and I'll lose interest. I think that goes for many people too.
Phew. Verbalicious wasn't a #01

so this gonna flop I hope :P :smoke:

it really is pointless I must agree, and as Andre said not just him but many here will lose intrest if we do this ban <_<

Well, I think people should probably discuss it with Tyron and share their points of view. It is a contest for all after all. I think perhaps there should be some sort of limit, so that we don't have 'Say It Right', 'Umbrella' and 'Bleeding Love' being chosen for example, but I'm not sure this is the way.

well it's not Tyron's contest :P

and if we decide from now on and put some changes in the rules we should do a poll and vote for it!

it's not like I'm gonn say no Britney for 10 rounds and u all gonna accept that :whip:

Tyron asked me for all artists who had been #1 in the Multichart, so im guessing he then decided to delete the 2006 ones

I like the idea in all honesty, but then i agree the rules should be decided by the host of the contest, not by Tyron.

I agree with Damon. This is a good way of limiting choices, BUT that is most of my music collection. I've used most of the "obscure" songs I know already... and I'm not about to hunt down new music for this contest as I have neither the time nor the enthusiasm. I'd sooner just send an album track or something equally obscureish.

I really like this idea. I don't like the fact people can enter an artist EVERYONE loves around here and do really well (yes, I am guilty of that, but I would like to point out I picked one of Britney's lesser known songs - in fact one that had never even charted in the UK). It really just makes the contest hardly any fun. I was very pleased at the results of the last contest becuase the top 2 (I can only remember the top 2 XD) weren't huge hits.

Perhaps maybe we should just ban songs that have been #1 (possibly even top 3 / 5 / 10) on the Multichart rather than the artist entirely? I would hate it if people started entering songs like Bleeding Love, Umbrella, About You Now etc. and winning.

not by the host!!!!

by every participant in the contest or the majority!!!!

I think there should be some criteria based on the song (not the artist). Below is an example!

Example:

If you can answer "yes" to three or more of the following questions, the song is not acceptable:

Did the song reach the top five on any major singles chart in the world?

Is the song currently active in any major charts in the world?

Does the song match with any of the songs listed here? [united World Chart Top Singles from 1999-2007]

Be honest! Would you consider this song a household name? That is, would nearly anyone be able to identify the song and the singer almost immediately?

And obviously more questions than that.

That's what I think.

agree with thise one!!!!

it's a song contest not an artist contest!!!!

so banning an artist is just stupid IMO

Well i still think this would delete a lot of songs, and this would lead to arguments aswell in my opinion, as some people will say songs are household names and some will say they aren't.

Stuff like this is always better when using 'unknown' acts as it sets more of a level playing field. It's hardly fair to pick a song everyone knows and loves!

It's been done on chc and Moopy a lot and it works brilliantly as it opens people to new music rather than stuff they already know (and more often that not, like).

OK, first off I have to say that this posting was in order to get this in for discussion before too many people started submitting entries :P This isn't a rule and I do realise I'm not the big ruler on this contest as some have said so far ;) NRS11's idea sounds like a good alternative to this, although as has been said already it would cause a lot of arguments, but I think we definitely need something in place so we don't get ridiculous entries such as Umbrella or Bleeding Love which frankly ruin the contest, because once we get to a point where there are 10 'household name' entries in the contest, some people will just start voting based on what they know as opposed to taking the time to listen to some of the entries - without naming and shaming, I know of at least one incidence in which this happened in the semi-final, hence why I'm wary of this happening, and in addition to this quite a few people don't seem to read exactly when their votes are supposed to be in, and would just do a rush vote upon being told they need to vote comprised of what they already know - another scenario I'm keen to avoid. This isn't an artist contest but it is clear that when in doubt people vote for the bigger artists, and it is clear that if they're sending a big artist they're not sending a bad song, they're sending one that is undoubtedly popular on Buzzjack - the recent exmple of Mariah Carey and Leona Lewis may go against this, but you only have to look at the successes of Sophie Ellis-Bextor or Nelly Furtado to see that there is a degree of bias. The thing is with this contest is a great part of the fun of it is introducing people to new music, rather than just throwing stuff at them they already know. What's the point of entering something you already know everybody likes - you wouldn't exactly be winning on merit. I would suggest that these artists be pinned as artists to avoid and ask people to only send their lesser known songs, but knowing Buzzjack this would probably be ignored in time or cause arguments over what is 'lesser known'.

I would like to consider the above list a starting point - I'm sure the contest would be better off without these artists as in all honesty it is clear many of them would get votes on name alone here, and there are lots of other artists that can be chosen without turning this contest into the multichart. I wouldn't like to see a rule as restrictive as the one above in place, hence why it is a starting point, and I would like to see other ideas put forward or modifications upon this rule.
