January 6, 200817 yr Author 30: Scooch - Flying The Flag (For You) http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/WEA421CD.JPG rJTNcaCRlB4 Nooooo! I can't believe this has made my year-end chart. :( It peaked at #7 on my chart and I can only assume it made it here because it hung around for a few weeks when I had the Eurovision bug. How very embarassing, let's move on from this quickly.
January 6, 200817 yr Author 29: Calvin Harris - Acceptable In The 80s http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/88697063932.JPG p1S3JCknQJ4 From the ridiculous to the sublime, this hypnotic electronic dance track made the official top 10 in March and peaked at #2 on my chart. It's a shame that the two folloing singles ('The Girls' and 'Merrymaking At My Place') were god-awful, they both failed to chart on my chart. Still, Calvin Harris redeemed himself with his hand in my second favourite Kylie Minogue song of all-time to date; 'In My Arms'.
January 6, 200817 yr Author 28: Robyn - With Every Heartbeat http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/KORMCD008.JPG VB9vqCIviMk Now this was a shocker, the Swedish singer who made a minor splash a decade previously came back this year with a huge #1 single. This was doubtlessly one of the most interesting and innovative #1 singles of the year, it peaked at #2 on my chart back in August.
January 6, 200817 yr Author 27: Kelis - Lil' Star http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/VSCDX1922.JPG hWzrr__wYMQ From one unexpected smash to another, this glorious number from Kelis crashed into the UK top 3 in February and made #2 on my chart. It's a shame that this single being so huge could do nothing to save the Kelis Was Here album however. 'I Don't Think So' could have been such a perfect follow-up to this.
January 6, 200817 yr Author 26: Sugababes - Change http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/1755605.JPG pBT-V-hj4Y0 The first and only entry from Sugababes in this chart ('About You Now' had to settle for being just outside as I bored of it very quickly). This recent 'non-top 10' single from the 'Babes recently peaked at #3 for me and I'm amazed it got this high in my year-end chart, but what the hell!
January 6, 200817 yr Author 25: Ida Corr vs Fedde Le Grand - Let Me Think About It http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/DATA170CDS.JPG lqQv9J1vz4w Fedde's third single peaked at #2 in both the official chart and my personal chart, everything from the trumpet horns, groovy bassline and the singer's sexy afro made this one of the year's tastiest dance numbers.
January 6, 200817 yr Author 24: Mason vs Princess Superstar - Perfect (Exceeder) http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/DATA150CDS.JPG 54eQTYOETTo It's hard to believe this was released almost a year ago, doesn't time go by so fast? This hot electro-dance track made the UK top 3 last January and #2 in my chart. I have to say, since this video I've never looked at gymnastics in the same way again.
January 6, 200817 yr Author 23: Gwen Stefani - 4 In The Morning http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/GWENPRECD.JPG uIvNB3WnvFs This touching song by Gwen with an elegantly sexy video was sadly a big flop for her in the summer, but it made #2 on my chart. 'The Sweet Escape' is still to come, but can it be my #1 of the year?
January 6, 200817 yr I thought Robyn would be a bit higher. And good to see I'm not the only one who liked that Hilary Duff track. Her other songs are junk IMO but With Love is a very good dancey pop piece.
January 6, 200817 yr Author 22: The Chemical Brothers - Do It Again http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/XDUSTCD8.JPG atNMZS7Rfuw The lead single from the Chemical Brothers' We Are The Night album made #2 for me back in May and still hasn't aged one bit for me. It was very radical and really stood out, despite the simplicity of the track.
January 6, 200817 yr Excellent to see Calvin, Kelis, Sugababes and Gwen! Love all those tracks alot ^_^
January 6, 200817 yr Author 21: Hellogoodbye - Here (In Your Arms) http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/88697098472.JPG 9YfobabpB3s Hellogoodbye are arguably the year's defining one hit wonders, which stands to reason as this was their only good song. This crashed into the UK top 5 early in the summer and spend 3 unconsecutive weeks at #1 in my chart.
January 6, 200817 yr Author Stay tuned for the top 10 albums which will probably be counted down tomorrow, then 20 - 11 soon to follow.
January 9, 200817 yr Author Here are the top 10 albums... 10: Bloc Party - A Weekend In The City http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/BLOCPAPRECD.JPG Bloc Party followed 2005's sublime Silent Alarm album with an album which in my opinion is nowhere near as good, but still a very solid album and made me like the band a whole lot more. January 9, 200817 yr Author 9: Girls Aloud - Tangled Up http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/GIRLSALOUD07.JPG This recent offering from the Girls is far from their best in my opinion, but still a solid effort with plenty of pop gems available. I have to say though, that the album cover was even worse than that of their Greatest Hits collection and with the hideous 'Can't Speak French' due as the next single, that will make it 3 of the worst songs on this album as singles by my reckoning. January 9, 200817 yr Author 8: Arctic Monkeys - Favourite Worst Nightmare http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/ARCTICMAREPRECD.JPG Unlike most overhyped bands in their category, I think Arctic Monkeys actually justify the hype and stand out from the crowd with many catchy and classic hooks in their music. I loved their debut album and this was definitely up to the standards of that. Highlights: Brianstorm Fluorescent Adolescent Do Me A Favour Balaclava Teddy Picker
January 9, 200817 yr Author 7: Hilary Duff - Dignity http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/HDUFFPRECD.JPG This totally shocked me, I'm not a Hilary fan by any stretch of the word but with Dignity she ditched the bratty pop-rock which she'd became known for and came up trumps with a well produced, more mature and sophisticated pop album. This was also the first Hilary Duff album I'd ever considered buying and I'm very glad I bought it. Highlights: With Love Never Stop Dignity Play With Fire Stranger
January 9, 200817 yr Author 6: Klaxons - Myths Of The Near Future http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/KLAXONSPRECD.JPG I like bands who stand out and for me Klaxons definitely did, with an album that I was very impressed with. This is a very strong album and their sound (at the time) was fairly original, an enjoyable listen. Highlights: Atlantis To Interzone Gravity's Rainbow Golden Skans Two Receivers Magick
